I remember liberals like Paglia. They were formidable political adversaries because of their principle and logic. Been gone quite a while, now.

And Tammy Bruce used to be quite the liberal. I believe, though, that Tammy--like Camille--are really libertarians, and that's just fine with me...

It would appear that some Liberals are beginning to realize that they have indeed lost their “religion” to the Communist/Socialist.

Has anyone confirmed whether the Dems have thrown Camille under the bus, yet?

I seriously doubt that any of current Liberal will be influenced by this. Instead, they're more likely to chastise her; and then send out their brigade of snoops to uncover any/all dirt possible on Ms. Paglia... a la Joe the Plumber.

Vive La Paglia! Always have loved her - in agreement or diagreement. She's strightforward, intellectually honest and curageous in telling the Left what they should hear but refuse to.

Strangely enough, Camille WOULD succeed as a Left-of-Center radio talk show host. She's one of the few on the Left with solid integrity that conservatives would listen to.

Paglia is like a Rorschach test for lefties. If they like her in spite of her independent streak, you can reason with them. If they hate her and think of her as an apostate in spite of her general agreement w/ traditional leftist principles they are not worth spending any amount of time with (sort of like our trolls here).

The woman is a great intellect, and by all accounts a fascinating and decent person. It's too bad most lefties are bottom-feeding scum like Steinem.

This one could be a powerful ally if she could be turned.

Jerricho68 on February 16, 2009 at 12:32 PM
</blockquote>

True, but she's likely more powerful helping from the other side. Thanks, AP. It's refreshing to hear an honest and intellectual liberal. Her analysis of Palin was beautiful, but her ripping on the Fairness Doctrine was sublime.

She's earned a fan.

Many of you would be impressed checking out her wiki page:

Paglia describes herself as a feminist and as a registered Democrat whose 2000 presidential vote was "Ralph Nader. Because I detest the arrogant, corrupt superstructure of the Democratic Party, with which I remain stubbornly registered."

she criticized Clinton for not resigning after the Monica Lewinsky scandal, which she says led to America being "blindsided by 9/11."

Paglia has broken with liberal orthodoxy by taking controversial stances such as rejecting the idea that homosexuality is an inborn trait and being skeptical about global warming.

Gloria Steinem compared Sexual Personae to Mein Kampf, and likened Paglia to Adolf Hitler. In response, Paglia called Steinem "evil" and equated her with Joseph Stalin.

Paglia criticized leaders of the American feminist movement. Paglia claimed that they were ignorant of art, science and history, were hostile to men, and were harming young women by teaching them to see themselves as victims.

The whole notion of the Fairness Doctrine gives us a clear vision of the modern liberal mind:

'Faux' news and talk radio spew lies and hatred and misinformation and cause lots of people to be misinformed and blindly led to believe in lies. What greater injustice could there be than to allow lies to flourish and people to live and think and act/vote according to these lies - it threatens the very core of democracy! We should entrust this issue to the bureaucrats who can regulate this and ensure everyone has access to the truth. How could anyone be against this?

This kind of thinking comes from the same minds that squawk when Gonzales fires attorneys for 'political reasons' yet they want the government to stifle free speech based on political ideologies. It's curious that the modern liberal doesn't want to apply the Fairness Doctrine to all forms of media - Why doesn't Keith Olberman EVER give voice to a conservative viewpoint on his show? How often has he, the New York Times, CBS, NBC, ABC been wrong about political stories? How often are their news stories laced with the liberal perspective (e.g., find a mainstream news media story about the current economic crisis that highlights the influence the government had on creating it...)? If it was conservatives who were proposing the Fairness Doctrine be imposed on the mainstream media then the liberals might see the horror of it.

What she said about when she's appeared on NPR, she has had to "slow down and tone down" (paraphrase) her conversation, and, conversely, talk radio having a more lively cadence, was very interesting. She attributes this to NPR being the voice of the (stuck-up) self-annointed aristocracy, and talk radio representing working America.

Very astute observation, and clearly demonstrates that the battle for the "fairness doctrine" is part of the liberal war on working class America.

Say what you want about the democrats ( and there is nothing nice to say about them) but they got the American people where they want them. First you get the liberal media to make sure the perception is what they want. "Rush is evil, Hannity is nuts - no one is giving us a chance". Then all of a sudden, the same people who drank the "hope and change" message start walking around muttering to themselves "We need to be fair - fair is good - we need to be fair - fair is good". And they win - cause this no longer becomes about censorship - oh, no - it is about fairness and Americans are nothing if not fair. This is by far the worse attack on the foundation of America then anything that has come before. We might as well move to France - at least they have great pastries to take away the bitter taste of socialism.

While I find some of Paglia's positions offensive (she is very pro-pornography and believes the age of consent should be lowered to 14), I can't help but admire her willingness to put principle over partisanship and speak her mind regardless of whether it helps or hurts her home team. That's something so rare in politics these days, left or right.

Hello Michelle. This is a new registration from Escondido/Mexico, California, USA I think !
I'm 23 miles away from the Mexico border. We've been trying to tell you about the invasion for the past 25 years. Glad you finally caught on...

I hope Ms. Paglia is happy she was so successful in moving her feminist movement forward. However, she should of thought to ask herself : Should I be careful what I ask for ?

I just don't get people who rave about Paglia as some sort of oracle because she makes a statement or two that sounds "conservative". Come on, people! This woman is a dyed-in-the-wool Marxist! Regardless of what she says, her statements are mendacious at the root and reflect a deep intellectual confusion. How can any sane person close the circle of being for freedom, yet vote for Democrats time and again. She was an Obama apologist from the very beginning! And she most certainly knew the true nature of the guy!

ALL Democrats are fundamentally crazy! Anything they say that might make sense is like a stopped clock being right twice a day, or a blind hog digging up a truffle. Paglia's positions are nothing more than aesthetic poses, and just as ephemeral. She has no commitment to liberty. Wake up and smell the coffee people! Paglia and her ilk are not allies in any way, shape, or form! She does what she does to confuse and undermine the true lovers of liberty! She is not in your camp!

I've always been fond of Camille and enjoy reading her column over at Salon. She has a healthy libertarian streak and I appreciate that about her. Her characterization of Gov. Palin is one of the best I've ever read -- exactly spot on.

Camille Paglia is the last liberal in the Democratic Party.

The Democrat Party is no longer a party of liberals. Long gone are the days the Democrats would hail the philosophy of Adam Smith over John Maynard Keynes.

The Democrat Party is now an amalgam of socialists, fascists, and totalitarians who seek further government control at the expense of every liberty except abortion.
