Audio: Camille Paglia rips the Fairness Doctrine to shreds
posted at 3:17 pm on February 14, 2009 by Allahpundit
Ever been to one of those Brazilian restaurants where they bring out plate after plate of nothing but red meat? Steaks, chops, sausages — all you can eat, until you’re glassy-eyed from the sheer red-meatiness of it all. This clip is that restaurant.
Oh, here’s the latest Democrat to come out in favor of Fairness. Remember, just your imagination. Click the image to listen.

I’ve only been to one in Denver on a TDY trip. “My” colleague is a bit heavy for an active duty officer and I normally run a few pounds under what my doc likes. So who do you think they shove the food at when he guy comes around?
Hint, he probably gets a kick-back from your cardiologist colleagues. ;-)

As Rush says – there is no way to parody these hairballs.
Go read Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged (try to tolerate her appalling writing in search of a great point), and then watch what’s going on around you since January 20th.
It’s surreal.

I concur with Camille. I also wish AP would take the same approach to atheism as she does. I imagine there would be a lot less stress on the threads here at Hot Air.

I remember liberals like Paglia. They were formidable political adversaries because of their principle and logic. Been gone quite a while, now.

they are gonna push the fairness doctrine, but they won’t be honest about it. It will be some buried line in an unknown piece of legislation that liberal regulators will use to bash talk radio into submission, and when they do this I will fear for the future of this nation.

Democrats have some risk in making this law instead of FCC policy. When they get booted out of office completely in 2012 so will their cohorts in the media when the GOP controlled Senate and FCC deem Couric, Willimas, NPR, MSNBC and CNN as “unfair” and yank them from the airwaives.

The Fairness Doctrine is Facist censorship, nothing more, nothing less. They have both houses and the White House. The two party process will collapse if they get this passed. Any lemming that voted for the stmulus plan without reading it does not deserve to serve in public office. They are traitors to their country as well as their constituents.

Completely OT: When Bush, Reagan, or even Clinton went out to dinner in their hometowns, were there 30 or so news trucks covering the event? I doubt it. But no, here in Chicago we have a swarm of sychophant media-types hanging out around this restaurant (name probably leaked by the White House). This man is an attention-freak. He can’t be bothered with reading the stimulus bill but go somewhere where people will fall on their knees when you descend – oh yes. Governing a country is getting in the way of his social life.

Wondering, if this thing ever comes to pass, it there some way for us, the listener, to fight it. Boycotting advertisers? Turning off lib leaning programs? Surely, if we act as a group, conservatives might be enough to break the stations in question which would eventually force some change? Possible?

Oooh, I think I’ll go to starbucks and talk in dulcet tones too!
I’ve been reading through her letters here. Universally wonderful stuff, but this is a snippet where she discusses talk radio:
Instead of bleating for paternalistic government intervention, liberals should get their own act together. Radio is a populist medium where liberals come across as snide, superior scolds. One can instantly recognize a liberal caller to a conservative show by his or her catty, obnoxious tone. The leading talk radio hosts are personalities and entertainers with huge rhetorical energy and a bluff, engaging manner. Even the seething ranters can be extremely funny. Last summer, for example, I laughed uproariously in my car when WABC’s Mark Levin said furiously about Katie Couric, “What do these people do? Open fortune cookies and read them on air?”.

A liberal acting…. liberally? How strange and unheard of!
There are some things we should all be able to get behind. Free and unfettered exchange of ideas is one of them. Good thing there are a few voices on the Left that still recognize this.

Could well be all the lefty trial balloons about FD are a red herring meant to distract us from the upcoming doctrine of “localism”.
Obama can play the centrist by saying he’s not supporting the FD, while at the same time setting us up for “Localism”, a doctrine that will of course produce virtually the equivalent result for them.
petefrt on February 14, 2009 at 5:05 PM
Liberals aren’t just snide, superior, catty scolds on radio, either. That’s just what they are everywhere.
ddrintn on February 14, 2009 at 5:06 PM
I think there were a lot of us, and most of them are now some sort of Republican. Hubert Humphrey is a good example, but as for the Sam Nunns and the like – is he a classical liberal, or a conservative Democrat? I get confused a bit there.
Jaibones on February 14, 2009 at 5:07 PM
Best argument against the Fairness Doctrine I’ve heard in a while. That and a good overall summary regarding the overall state of things in this matter covering both sides. Her NPR-voice imitation was right on the money – I’ve always wondered (and felt nauseated) about those affected voicings I hear on NPR.
True she supported Obama but regardless of that she says some positive things about Rush and Hannity which is sure to raise hackles from the Orthodox Wing of the Left. Her statement about the MSM being controlled by liberals is also accurate and her follow up was priceless. She has done this many times in the past since overall Paglia is a free thinker and more of a libertarian than a big-D Democrat.
Her final comments comparing this to being “straight out of the 1930″ is a direct reference to the fascist European states.
Mr Gus on February 14, 2009 at 5:07 PM
ptfrt – not sure Galt would let me in.
As for the liberal tone, it seems to me that Paglia is so identifiable because she isn’t threatened by a Palin. She is curious, and admiring of their talents and successes.
The partisans (all of us) tend more to defensive and threatened.

Another Shrugged comment. Seems like we’re living in Dagny’s world, now.
Pagilla is spot on and refreshingly honest. Between her and watching Alexandra Pelosi speaking with O’Reilly the other night, there might be more sane liberals than we are lead to believe.
Conversely, we could be completely underestimating the depth of the depravity that occupies the White House.
turfmann on February 14, 2009 at 5:39 PM
I’ve often said that if I were 12 years older I would probably have started as a Liberal teenager in the early 70s and evolved into a Conservative during my 30s. I didn’t like Nixon’s approach to dealing with his enemies either. It was petty, sneaky and dishonest and it smacked of fascism. Worse, it created the environment that gave birth to the modern day Liberal.
Camille uses this word fascism in her interview with deadly accuracy. I watch Liberals impose themselves on us unapologetically like a deranged rapist and I can’t even believe that these people came from that Lenny Bruce era of free love and free speech Camille references.
These modern day Liberals are like the 5th generation of inbred soldiers of the peace movement on some sort of psycho power trip.
Is it time for Conservatives to pull a Ayers style peace movement of our own? Is that the only thing that can save this country? Sometimes I wonder.

I sent her opinions on Sarah Palin to several of my lib friends; they were speechless and claimed she had sold out. As much as I despise the moonbat liberals of the 60′s, it’s refreshing to see one who applies her beliefs consistently.
Now all we need is a real live black leader to do the same thing. (On top of the Freeman’s and Cosby’s that is)
The black skinned shitbags like Oslime-a, Jackson, Sharpton, et al, are vile evil liberals who give decent people a bad name and especially to minorities themselves. To the racists, the impression is that if Oslime-a and the rest are the best the black community has to offer, then they were right all along and blacks just don’t have what it takes to be in charge.
csdeven on February 14, 2009 at 6:41 PM
Have you noticed how the most vocal proponents of the reinstitution of the Fairness Doctrine are usually legislators, elected officials and commentators who are associated with people who work in , manage, or own business connected with Liberal talk back radio? In other words people who would benefit financially if conservative talk back radio’s market share were to be significantly reduced for some reason.
Its like with every Democrat policy and legislation these days you have to look for the kickbacks in the fine print to truly understand why they want that particular policy enacted.
Dreadnought223 on February 14, 2009 at 6:48 PM
