I support parts of the bill. I think the 400/800 per person/family tax cut is a huge waste of money and should go to new school construction/refurbishment and other infrastructure projects that produce more jobs. I will buy a PS3 with my 400....I dont know how stimulative that will be.

Aaron is from my hometown, and I have a family member that has worked closely with his office, first as a local state representative and now as a member of the House of Representatives.

Yes, he has a staff (all congressmen do).

Yes, he has an office (all offices are reallocated after every election, and you get better office space generally based on your seniority) and Aaron ended up with a nice one, apparently a sign of GOP leadership favor.

Yes, staffs do keep careful count of calls and emails. The previous commenter was right - most people don't contact their congress-person...unless they are steamed about something. My family member said that for every one call they receive, they generally view it as representing about 1,000 other people in the district. If a person cares enough to call/email...it means something to the congressman. If 10 call, they pick up their heads. 100...there is something going on. 1,000? Enormous interest back home.

Said family member also indicated that the office of the newest senator from Illinois, the incredibly underwhelming Rolan Burris, basically had his phone off the hook for days. Family member was contacting all House members's and Senator's offices on an unrelated matter...and Burris' office was the only one that never picked up the phone. Surprise.

Aaron is considered quite the rising star here locally, and nationally. He is the real deal as far as the locals are concerned. Members of the minority community really respect him - he listens to them, treats them (and everyone) with courtesy and professionalism, and has gotten legislation through that benefits that community, while still remaining loyal to conservative principals.

What you saw in that clip is what you get - keep your eye on this one.

Exit question: At least two major polls show more support for the bill than opposition, with Gallup topping out at 59 percent. And yet not a single Caterpillar employee asked Schock to vote for it? Really?

Oh! How could I have been so naive?! You aren't doubting the ridiculous, worthless polls - you're calling Schock a liar. How could I have imagined that you were taking a GOP politician at face value...what was I thinking?

Auditioning for DU?

Rep. Schock is my congressman and I expect big things from him in the future. I've met him several times and he does impress. He communicates very well and gets a lot of support from the minority communities in Peoria. I have no trouble seeing this man as the next President to come from Illinois.

Not like you to pander to the commentariat, AP. I thought nothing pissed you off more than us ignorant, partisan rubes doubting the sacred magnificence of the polls? What gives?

Fwiw, these polls you've been running for the past week are the wildest batch of pure crap I've ever seen, with the pollster's questions changing the numbers dramatically on the same day.

What the hell is this "save or create jobs" crap?

The word "save" wasn't in there not too long ago.

How convenient. Now he can claim his stimulus works, even if it doesn't create jobs.

What a freaking charlatan.

I agree. The sad thing is that, if he were elected governor, so long as he stays out of the clink he'd be a far sight better than quite a few of his predecessors.

I don't know about saiga, but where did you get that from? There are some good looking honest people in Illinois, why could Aaron not be one of them? Regarding Bishop - I call, fax, email all the time. It has gotten to the point that our local elected state officials pick up the phone when I send them an email and call ME! The important thing here is to not just complain and bitch about things, but also give them praise when they have done the will of the people! Regarding INC - I agree, it is sad, but our President is showing more and more that he IS a Chicago Thug!
