Maybe I'm missing something, but if Barry has the majority in both houses, what's the deal with all the campaigning and YouTube ads and the like?

Does anyone really think that Dems will vote the bill down?

Makes sense. The MSM has said nothing about the pork in it. Mum's the word on the health care run by govt provision. Not a peep about the $4B to ACORN.

All they talk about is the $500 tax "cut" and how that will magically solve everyone's problems. If all you heard was that you're getting a $500 tax cut ad nauseum, you'd probably be in favor of it too.

Forget these constant and continuous polls. Believing any one of these point estimates is like taking your blood pressure every 45 seconds. There will be constant variations and occasionally there will be a single reading that significantly differs from the others. Trends are what were after and this daily poll monitoring is nonsense. They should pack up all of these commercial pollsters and send them on a long vacation with a one-way ticket.

Frankly, I'm sick polls though I habitually read poll threads here. LOL Go figure. "According to a Gallup poll, a solid 78% of Americans think Obama is the best person ever to lead us through this worst economy since the Depression...why aren't YOU one of that 78%???"

Let's see how they feel about the bill when they realize it doesn't stimulate a turd (ok, it did make me take a dump but you know what I mean), pays illegal aliens, opens their medical records to the federal govt, spends billons on snail darters and other bait fish, funds waste by the state governments, wastes billions on new buildings in DC, etc.

Yes, they’d get a different result if the media just told the truth.

INC on February 12, 2009 at 4:18 PM

Thank you. If we had an unbiased media or a watchdog media, both as it should be, and the American people were thus more educated about this bill and the ripple effects it will have, we'd have different poll numbers.

George Bush didn't care about popularity polls. It hurt short term, but I think he'll be vindicated long term. He cared about protecting Americans first and foremost - it was when he tried to play bipartisanship (thus giving liberalism leeway - a big mistake) that he hurt us most.

May God protect us from ourselves.

I'm thinking that to National Health and Death Service, beer will pretty much BE the medical care, so it's all good.

A few thoughts: 1. Obama was just elected a little over 3 months ago, so it's not surprising that we've not had a national rise in collective IQ in such a short time; 2. The Democrats seem to be a little more jittery about the implications in terms of public approval than the Republicans; I'd say there are good reasons for that. 3. The majority of American people want it; give the people what they want.

I heard a very slick radio ad last night here in Vegas that was put out by a union that urged people to call Sen. Ensign to ask him to vote for "President Obama's jobs program."

1. It said that 80% of people want congress to "do something like President Obama's plan" blah blah

2. Call Michale Steele, who was just yesterday trying to say this bill isn't Obama's but Pelosi's. Obama's people and his unions supporters don't seem to agree.

3. Way, way too many people in this country are sheep. If they hear that "80% support President Obama's plan," they figure it's the truth and that the plan must be good.

From the latest news article today:

Officials estimated it would mean about $13 a week more in people's paychecks this year when withholding tables are adjusted in late spring. Next year, the measure could yield workers about $8 a week. Critics say that's unlikely to do much to boost consumption.

Now how could this plan not work!

Except that the $7.692 will be worth about $2.475 of actual buying power in six months.

Bishop on February 12, 2009 at 4:33 PM

At least. Worse case scenario would make it worth even less. If they spend it in a city with a 7% sales tax it already becomes $7.154. Then we have to subtract the coming gasoline tax increases which should easily eat into that paltry sum.

This is still well below the amount needed for them to rent a plasma TV from the local Rent-A-Center.

So when Ogabe said: "My attitude is that if the economy's good for folks from the bottom up, it's gonna be good for everybody. I think when you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody."....he actually meant it?

Shocking.

At the insistence of congressional Democrats to allow for more spending, it scales back the middle-class tax cut proposal Obama campaigned on and included in his initial stimulus proposal.

Wow, who could have seen that coming? I'm sure Dear Leader had no idea congressional dems were going to remove it and he's just heartbroken over it.

I blame it all on those folk who think this will give them a free kitchen.

A lot of them are going to be right about that "free" kitchen once this idiotic "stimulus" bill is passed. The $50 billion or $70 billion or whatever the current number is that's going to be used to pay for "mortgage modification" means that people who irresponsibly signed up for mortgages they couldn't afford are going to have their interest rates reduced and their loan principal reduced to an amount they can afford -- at taxpayer expense.

We laughed at Peggy the Moocher because she thought Obama was going to pay her mortgage. She wasn't completely wrong; Obama won't pay it, but he'll force the rest of us to pay it for her. Welcome to Obama's New World Order, where your wealth (and your kids' and grandkids' wealth) is redistributed to achieve "social justice."
