Stimulusmania: Rasmussen shows seven-point surge in support, too
posted at 4:10 pm on February 12, 2009 by Allahpundit
Seven points in seven days, just like Gallup. Only a bare plurality backs it overall — 44/40, with 15 percent on the fence — but like Dave Weigel says, a week ago Rasmussen was all the rage in the rightosphere because it was the lone major pollster to show more opposed to the bill than in favor. Goodbye to all that:
The latest data shows that support for the president is closely linked to support for the stimulus plan. Among those who Strongly Approve of Obama’s job performance, 84% favor the stimulus plan, and four percent (4%) are opposed. Among those who Somewhat Approve of the president’s performance, 39% favor the stimulus plan, while 30% are opposed.
However, among those who disapprove of the president’s performance, the results are starkly different. Just one percent (1%) approve of the plan, and 91% disapprove.
The link between the president and support for the stimulus plan is confirmed by other data as well. A review of polling data from other firms suggests that when the plan is described as Obama’s plan, it enjoys more support.
Call it the Obamessiah Effect, soon to face its ultimate test when The One turns on the charm to sell TARP II to a public that’s already sick to death of bailouts. Exit question one: Think they’d get a different result if they started including Heritage’s assessment of the true cost of the stimulus in the questions? Exit question two: Is Kaus right that the only way to roll back the welfare provisions of the bill is for grassroots conservatives to unleash hell on YouTube?

How can we get an accurate read on the public perception when the Democrats are refusing to release the actual details until the house VOTES on it?
That alone tells me that the public would be outraged about what is in this bill.

As I said yesterday, people are gullible and stupid. “This guy we really know nothing about says we need it? Well, okay then!” We’ve turned into OprahNation.
And if people do come around to opposing this later on (after the bill’s passed), they’ll punish the members of Congress who voted the way they wanted Congress to. Short-term memories galore.

I see the plan as a large rock attached by a rope to Barry’s neck. If he jumps up in the air, it pulls the rock up. Of course, once the effect of the package is felt, it will be like chucking the rock off of a bridge.

These people were never involved with facts, reality, national or international affairs or even their fellow citizens. They have been, and continue to be, self-absorbed and selfish. This is a very dangerous time for the nation, the last time this kind of thing happened was 1933 Germany.

Gregg withdrawl is a good news. And a decent move. He can’t give a white check to Obama.
And by the way, the public support the bill because of all the talk about the infrastructure consturction and tax reduction. And although people still give credit to Obama. It’s like when you fall in love with the wrong person. First you can’t see his’hers problems and you trust every word he/she speaks. Then, you start to realize that not everything is as you thought it would be but you still give theperson credit. Then is the third faze when you don’t know how to get rid of the former lover. American people are in the second faze of this love affair.

I think what this poll shows is that when the support was down it was a reflection of those who get their news and information thru the internet and the one lone fair and balanced cable news station. And when the support swung up a few points it was reflective of those who were getting the information by way of headlines and soundbites from their evening network news. That to me is the stark difference, because the bill didn’t really change only the marketing did.
And that ought to serve as a teaching moment for the GOP.

Like the Dow Jones, Rasmussen tracks daily adjustments that by nature fluctuate. It’s good to keep track of daily affairs; but every up or down does not dictate the need to CHANGE ideological strategy. Over time, the direction of fluctuations does motivate review of tactics to be most effective dealing with public demands.
Accept the reality that most people feel like chickens with their heads cut off. Avoid the splatter, but don’t lose the makings for survival.
maverick muse on February 12, 2009 at 4:36 PM

Please, Allah. Take your frapping medicine. The survey shows that many Obastard supporters love his Stimulating Pork Tenderloin With Prunes and Ex-Lax. But his opponents reject it in far greater proportion. So it’s not “stimulusmania.” It’s in fact the opposite… support from Barry’s huffers is not as uniform on the bill as is the opposition’s views against the bill.

A lot of them are going to be right about that “free” kitchen once this idiotic “stimulus” bill is passed. The $50 billion or $70 billion or whatever the current number is that’s going to be used to pay for “mortgage modification” means that people who irresponsibly signed up for mortgages they couldn’t afford are going to have their interest rates reduced and their loan principal reduced to an amount they can afford — at taxpayer expense.
We laughed at Peggy the Moocher because she thought Obama was going to pay her mortgage. She wasn’t completely wrong; Obama won’t pay it, but he’ll force the rest of us to pay it for her. Welcome to Obama’s New World Order, where your wealth (and your kids’ and grandkids’ wealth) is redistributed to achieve “social justice.”

Bishop on February 12, 2009 at 4:46 PM
At least. Worse case scenario would make it worth even less. If they spend it in a city with a 7% sales tax it already becomes $7.154. Then we have to subtract the coming gasoline tax increases which should easily eat into that paltry sum.
This is still well below the amount needed for them to rent a plasma TV from the local Rent-A-Center.

Chuck Schick on February 12, 2009 at 4:52 PM
I heard a very slick radio ad last night here in Vegas that was put out by a union that urged people to call Sen. Ensign to ask him to vote for “President Obama’s jobs program.”
1. It said that 80% of people want congress to “do something like President Obama’s plan” blah blah
2. Call Michale Steele, who was just yesterday trying to say this bill isn’t Obama’s but Pelosi’s. Obama’s people and his unions supporters don’t seem to agree.
3. Way, way too many people in this country are sheep. If they hear that “80% support President Obama’s plan,” they figure it’s the truth and that the plan must be good.

A few thoughts: 1. Obama was just elected a little over 3 months ago, so it’s not surprising that we’ve not had a national rise in collective IQ in such a short time; 2. The Democrats seem to be a little more jittery about the implications in terms of public approval than the Republicans; I’d say there are good reasons for that. 3.
