Obama: Caterpillar will re-hire people if stimulus passes; Caterpillar CEO: No, we won’t

posted at 7:18 pm on February 12, 2009 by Allahpundit

Yesterday’s banner Drudge headline is today’s comedy gold. Note the reason, too, why he can’t re-hire people right away: Because the stimulus simply won’t do any stimulating fast enough.

I really thought no one would ever, ever top Carter. This is better than reading the comic strips. Maybe Carter will hire him as an apprentice for Habitat. Then we can have a better laugh.

How would that help Michelle Obama’s children?

I wonder how cool and collected Obama is in private while all of this is going down. I’ve known people like him before. Who here thinks the dog is beginning to shy away when O steps into the room?

I wonder how the curtains in the WH smell now with all that smoking going on.

Why doesn’t obambi stay in DC and get some work done instead of zipping all over the country talking to set – up crowds of adoring fans who tremble at the sight of him? Oh wait, that is why right? What a dork. He can only campaign and listen to the cheering throngs, he can’t govern, not really. What was I thinking. *sigh* I also still think he has a love affair going with AF1..I won, My toys!!!!

clinker46 on February 12, 2009 at 8:18 PM

Caterpillar was a good company, what ahppened to it? I guess with the recession and all, it got whopped and the management was tempted to try the Washington and go the handout way and compromise their integrity in the process. Probably they wised up that they won’t be getting anything in Washington and this “stimulus” is all for lining up the liberal pet projects.

Housing boom collapse = demand for heavy equipment collapse. Also, the farm market was doing well due to ethanol subsidy boondoggles when oil prices were high, now that is collapsing, too. In Nebraska, the price of ethanol mix gasoline is higher than pure gasoline.

The ethanol boondoggle is a big reason why farm state Republicans went RINO.

Why doesn’t obambi stay in DC

because he felt claustrophobic in the “white” house. so, his plan is to get out and let everyone see how dumb he is. he’ll get tired of this too.
the novelty of the thing will wear off in the first and last 100 days. after this, he will disappear. so, we need to stop him now.

anti-boomer on February 12, 2009 at 8:32 PM

And where is the small business community? Are they afraid of the ONE clamping down on them? We need a voice because more jobs are created by small business. The spendulus does NOTHING to help small business. That is because Obama wants to strangle small business, innovation and the freedom to be your own boss. Obama & the democrats want drones – worker bees. Do you want to ba a drone or a free person?????

izoneguy on February 12, 2009 at 8:34 PM

ROFL, I love the “bipartisan” comment at the beginning – “I hope they act in a bipartisan way, but however they act, when they pass our bill…”

Once again, proof that “bipartisan” to dems is “do what I want you to”.

Hey, O – I hope they act in a bipartisan way, too – and say “NO” to this bullsh1t of yours.

Johan Klaus on February 12, 2009 at 10:23 PM

Obambi’s ability to connect with the American public (like Hitler and other dictators did) make me shiver. The adoring fans seen during his on-the-road promotions of his stimilus bill were very scary. Those Americans will not, unlike us bloggers, see the lies, discrepancies, etc. that HE will utter. As long as he appears to the American public, they will continue to adore him and that scares me senseless. We need to stop celebrating small “victories” such as this and begin to try to stop the biggest threat to American liberty that has ever existed. Obama is subtle and deadly. America does not need socialism or communism and it is up to us to stop it. First, He will get rid of our guns (2nd Amendment), then he will get rid of our right of free speech (1st Amendment via Fairness Doctrine) , then he will get rid of the 22nd Amendment, and then we are screwed.

Caterpillar Breaks Ground on Manufacturing Facility in Seguin, Texas

All those union jobs are headin south pardner….
This video was shot one day after the ones ascension.
Jan, 21, 2009

http://governor.state.tx.us/video/11833/

SEGUIN – Gov. Rick Perry today urged the Texas Legislature to continue appropriating funds to the Texas Enterprise Fund (TEF) this session, citing investments in companies such as Caterpillar that have created thousands of jobs for Texans and attracted millions of dollars in capital investment. The governor spoke at the groundbreaking for Caterpillar’s manufacturing facility in Seguin.

“In these uncertain economic times, companies across the country are looking to Texas as the place to grow their business thanks to a reasonable regulatory environment, educated workforce, and economic incentives that bolster Texas’ capital and competition in a global marketplace,” Gov. Perry said. “This investment is proof positive that programs like the Texas Enterprise Fund are worthwhile uses of Texas taxpayer dollars, and I urge the Legislature to continue funding this essential component of our state’s competitive economic package.”

Caterpillar Inc. is a leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines, and medium and high speed diesel engines. Last month, Caterpillar announced that it was moving one of its primary global assembly, test and paint facilities to Seguin, creating more than 1,400 jobs. The state invested $10 million through the TEF as a deal-closing incentive for the move, which will generate $169.7 million in capital investment. The project is the second largest in terms of job creation and investment this biennium.

“Caterpillar looks forward to the new engine facility in Seguin, which will allow us to improve process capability, flexibility and flow of our operations to optimize efficiency,” said Gary Stroup, Vice President of Large Power Systems Division for Caterpillar. “This location brings us closer to our customers and supply base, and as a result, will reduce freight, logistics and inventory costs.”

With this investment, Caterpillar will consolidate and relocate its assembly, paint and testing operations from Illinois and South Carolina to Seguin. The facility will provide engines for Caterpillar machines and electric power generation, as well as petroleum, marine, and industrial customers. Those looking to apply for jobs with Caterpillar may visit www. jointeamcaterpillar.com.

“Seguin is good for industry and industry is good for Seguin,” Rep. Edmund Kuempel said. “We are tremendously happy that Caterpillar has chosen our city to expand its production, and we look forward to being a good neighbor and a great place for them to do business.”

“Let there be no mistake about the new Caterpillar in Seguin,” Sen. Jeff Wentworth said. “It will provide a significant and very beneficial jolt to the economies of not only Seguin and Guadalupe County, but to this multi-county region of Texas.”

At Gov. Perry’s request, the legislature created the TEF in 2003 and re-appropriated funding in 2005 and 2007 to help ensure the growth of Texas businesses and create more jobs throughout the state. The fund has since become one of the state’s most competitive tools to recruit and bolster business. To date, the TEF has invested more than $377 million and closed the deal on projects generating over 53,800 new jobs and $14 billion in capital investment in the state.

Allah:
Why don’t you start a running poll for a week at hot air?
Then when it happens you can compare it to the poll in one of your editorials. We can all enjoy the entertainment of this.

You are astute in your observations, but allow us to celebrate the small victories that come our way. If w don’t then we will lose heart, and that is one thing we cannot do in these times. We must have hope, hope that we will find viable conservative candidates, that we will rouse ourselves from our complacent introspective lives and participate vigorously in the election process, and that we can correct past administrations errors. We just can’t lose hope. If we do, then what is left?

Its simple economics and bureaucracy

Anythign the government does usually takes 3 times as long
costs 4 times over budjet and does half of the job promised..

So yep this is actually correct and i predict he will be kicked off of air force one with one 24 hours..

Any takers?
