Bill Clinton: Hey, you know what we need? The Fairness Doctrine

Yet another figment of your overactive wingnut imagination. I always wondered if that Inhofe story about Hillary and Barbara Boxer kibbitzing about Fairness was true. Hmmmmm. Exit question: If Billy Jeff is so concerned about this, why didn’t he push it circa 1993? Click the image to listen.

Jeeze…they say time heals all wounds…I’ve come to not loathe Clinton so much in the last few years…especially considering the steaming pile of wrinkle necks we have running the show now…alas.
“There he goes again”……

bring it on

Bring it. Lacing up my marching boots.

The way I see it, if they want a “Fairness Doctrine,” it should be across the board. Let us also apply this to Television, Cable, even sitcoms and the View. I want THOSE LIKE Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hanitty, Mark Levin, & Bill Orielly to start co-anchoring the news on ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC as well as an equal quota of Conservatives on all of the Newspapers. Give Dennis Miller a late night talk show across from Leno & Letterman. All those morning talk shows on TV must be integrated with Conservatives; no tokenism will be tolerated. Instead of movies and TV showing conservatives of practicing religious faith as being somehow flawed, there must be an end to this religionism (I just made that word up. It kind of goes in the same category as racism, if you can get the drift). There have to be an equal number of able and capable religious people as there are regular stars (You know, the ones they write about in the Enquirer). This is just to start negotiations on the new, REAL, Fairness Doctrine, and I reserve the right to add to it as I deem necessary. I will also leave this open to our Conservative friends who might want to address some areas of discrimination that I may have missed.

Well, you know that big money is made from advertising from businesses and not from donations or taxes.
I guess that’s why Rush never got under his skin.

Yeah, let’s apply the Fairness Doctrine to the Daily Show, the Colbert Report, and Saturday Night Live. Let’s also apply it to all Hollywood movies, and to Janeane Garafolo’s standup act. Let’s roll, motherhumpers!
Jim62sch on February 12, 2009 at 8:50 PM
If they want to divide this country further then I say go ahead and pass it. I know a lot of folks are starting to speak more openly that they fear another civil war is coming if we continue down this path.

Bill who? Is trying to be relevant again?
genso on February 12, 2009 at 8:51 PM
Allah, Special Report had a segment on this tonight… Many Dems are beating the war drums on this… not that it really matters because we’re completely screwed once the porkulus passes, unless we revolt.
RightWinged on February 12, 2009 at 8:53 PM
It’s just a matter of time…all it takes is a pen-stroke from Messiah to make it happen. As soon as his poll numbers start to tank, he’ll do it.
AUINSC on February 12, 2009 at 8:54 PM
Well now Bill, doesn’t it depend on what the meaning of ridiculous is and what the meaning of sex is and what the meaning of is, is? I would think so.

Wyo – I always say that time wounds all heels. The former Philanderer-in-Chief is gonna find that out in God’s good time.

They have to know that if they were to actually do this, that it would lead to violence, right? Not saying I would or anything, but they can’t honestly think that, for what Talk Radio means to millions of people (freedom from the tyranny of the MSM), thousands wouldn’t resort to some sort of violence to protect the first amendment.
Weight of Glory on February 12, 2009 at 8:55 PM
Don’t you get it? They’re going to insist that all of the liberal news shows are objective news shows, not partisan talk shows like Rush and Hannity. Fox News will be the only news network declared to be in violation of the Fairness Doctrine.
Watch for it.
Meryl Yourish on February 12, 2009 at 8:56 PM
Yes, yes, yes! It makes no sense to point to the only medium in which conservative perspectives prevail, and ignore all the others where liberals views dominate. Or at least, it makes no sense unless you’re one of those liberals who just wants to stifle conservative voices.
ProfessorMiao on February 12, 2009 at 8:57 PM
You just can not have a Marxist/Socialist revolution in the United States with dissenting voices on talk radio………..
Seven Percent Solution on February 12, 2009 at 8:59 PM
Funny how all the lefties want the Fairness Doctrine shoved down the throats of conservative media outlets. I don’t hear any of them clamouring to apply it Will Ferrel’s one man show dedicated to bashing President Bush.
I’m nowhere near Broadway. Does anyone know if someone’s putting on a one man show ripping Obama to shreds?
It’s only fair.
fogw on February 12, 2009 at 9:00 PM
Exactly…when they enact this, Olbermann will be exempted because they write the rules, and by their lights, Countdown is a ‘News Show’.

They’ll win the “fairness doctrine debate” because talk radio has devolved into an idiotic impotent medium… all talk radio sucks… if you don’t think so then visit every website of all the AM stations and talk radio hosts and look how bad they suck… the fairness doctrine won’t fix that… it would be nice to have the medium be used for community coordination instead of rabble rousing… if the powers that be who control talk radio don’t change the focus from opinion pimping towards real community activism(pro-life, pro-military, whatever)… what’s done on talk radio now is way too shallow to achieve anything constructive
ninjapirate on February 12, 2009 at 9:06 PM
Allah’s 2007 Prediction: The trend is already towards satellite radio. Oops – Sirius/XM is filing for bankruptcy. Remind me not to take stock picks from AP:)
Anyhoo, maybe they won’t need the Fairness Doctrine…maybe they plan to nationalize radio stations or hit them with “windfall profits taxes” – hence the idiotic talking point about the money that’s behind talk radio.
Buy Danish on February 12, 2009 at 9:06 PM
The liberals get the Fairness Doctrine back….they’ll regret it. I for one will complain long and loud about any liberal leaning TV or radio station that does not portray both sides of an issue. That includes local cable.
GarandFan on February 12, 2009 at 9:07 PM
Obama needs only three votes from the five-member FCC to define “localism” in such a way that no radio station would dare air any syndicated conservative programming.

I don’t want the Fairness Doctrine period. Even if they applied it to all mediums, it would still be wrong. Most smart business people see a need for something in a market, and provide a product to sell to those who want it. Rupert didn’t become a bazzilionaire because he is dumb. He has the most succesful network in cable news by a landslide. MSNBC saw a need for the far left nutjobs and built their evening line-up around that. The ratings speak for themselves. Put everything out there and let the people decide. Even if the Fairness Doctrine favored Conservatives, I would still be against it on principle. The government has no right to force any network to put something on their airwaves, or print, or movies. Period.
kriscoleman on February 12, 2009 at 9:10 PM
Just when I started like the man a bit for the time he and Elder Bush laughed at Carter behind his back, he has to go and do this.
Exit question: Since we will probably be reduced to clandestine HAM radio networks to coordinate our resistance activities, how easy can HAM frequencies be triangulated?
Bishop on February 12, 2009 at 9:12 PM
I believe Liberty Media will make a play for Sirius/XM. Though the debt is huge, the bankruptcy was as much to hold off EchoStar’s bid for them as it was to seek protection from creditors.
genso on February 12, 2009 at 9:12 PM
In 1993 you just had Rush.
In 2009 you have Rush, Beck, Levin, Ingraham, a ton of local conservative talk radio hosts, and of course the internet, which will undoubtedly be a target as well.

Would love to get on the local Radio/TV station and give my alternative viewpoint. The Fairness Doctrine is a two way street, isn’t it? For to long the nightly news has only given a very narrow interpretation of the news. Glad to see Clinton finally coming around to a more partisan point of view. Must be because we have the Great Unifier in office.
On a side note, many years ago I remember seeing Archie Bunker on All in the Family giving an alternative viewpoint on gun control. He reasoned that if you gave a gun to everyone getting on an airplane, no one would be dumb enough to try and hijack it.

Not that I support the FD but as far as I know it would work or be open to anyone. Which means you would be able to get rebutal time for college radio, Bath Tub Boy, MTV, Randi Rhodes, Robert Madow, perhaps even get to counter Jon Stewart. The list of course is endless since the majority of media has leftist or liberal slant regardless of what the clowns at Media Matters and the failed Air America claim.
People would be lining up to counter Bill Moyers, NPR radio, PBS, etc.

Mr Gus on February 12, 2009 at 10:23 PM
1. then why would you possibly want to return to anything like that and, more importantly,
2. do u think the donks will be that benevolent in administering it this time ’round?!
Buckaroo on February 12, 2009 at 10:25 PM
I love how the left likes to lecture Conservatives about censorship, then as soon as they obtain power, one of their first acts is censorship.
To them censorship is not allowing Robert Mapplethorpe to exhibit erotic pictures of male genitalia in elementary schools, but squelching opposing political speech is perfectly acceptable. The purpose of the free speech clause of the first amendment was to protect free political speech, not gay porn.
Talk radio is the major pressure release valve for Conservatives. The socialists dominate and shut out Conservatives from all other forms of media.
Remove that release valve, and there will be an explosion.
Chris Matthews leg won’t be the only thing tingling!

Nope, it would be controlled by bureaucratic lifers. So in this case whomever King Obama and his merry gang of Bolsheviks hire for this purpose would stay there until retirement. Added to this they would more than likely be members of AFSCME. So we would be looking at a Federal department being run by a group of left wing kooks for the next 20 years or more.
Nevermind then. I should have said “in theory.”
Mr Gus on February 12, 2009 at 10:29 PM

Is this the point in the sitcom where a character comes back for a reunion show? Given The One’s personnel choices only thing missing from the White House set is Billy Jeff, a dumpy intern in a blue dress and a cigar.
The left is just jerking our chains. They won’t be bringing back the fairness doctrine. They just want to keep throwing pine cones at the wasps nest.

Obviously he’s still smarting over the regular beatings he got on talk radio for his eight years in office. Get over it already, Bill. How about Christian radio? Will a Satan hour be required?
Why they feel they need to undo the last 40 years is beyond me. Its not going to fix anything in a world that is much differant than 40 years ago. Obviously the Republicans didn’t have a fool-proof running-hold on things or they’d still have the hold, so what are the Dems afraid of, the Repubs getting it back again? Right now the LibDems are their own worst enemy. They’ll implode pretty soon. They are starting to bite at each other. Its the working people who are having to keep going to work every day and monitor this friggin mess.

Ok, this tin-foil-hat-wearing-Birther-far-right-wing-nut is waiting for an apology…
Still waiting…
(knock-knock) Is this thing on?
To all of you that have said and defended this Messiah, said to get along, said we need to be supportive, said we need to wait and watch as he moves to the center…
(sticks tongue out and gives a rasberry) I told you so!
This loon is a radical, Obama is a liar, he is an empty suit and a REAL and CLEAR and PRESENT DANGER to America, the Constitution and our rights and freedoms. Any question now?
I’m waiting…
The gaol of the radical left, and Obama is the leader, has been to silence ANY oposition, any voice… To villify the Conservatives, kinda like here at HotAir… Real hard core Conservatives have been warning ALL of you moderates and centerists that this President was not to be trusted or given any honeymoon. He is a radical with designs on the destruction of America as we know it… He lied about Caterpillar and the CEO’s comment, he lied about the NO Pork in the Porkulous… He has violated his own “rules” by allowing lobbiests… Nothing he has said has been real or truthful EXCEPT that he intended to CHANGE America.
I’m waiting for all the moderates and centerists and big tenters to WAKE THE F-UP… You better get on board the CONSERVATIVE train before we have no train to ride and no rights to speak! We can not negoitiate nor can we will go along with this abortion of America, our values and our core. Those that have talked of moderation should, by now, see this POS for what he is… A lying, radical leftist.
I want my apology’s… Conservatives have not been wrong. Moderates have… This is real, we can no longer be called wing nuts or alarmists. Face the facts folks, your the ones who have been wrong to trust this Messiah.

Old Bill is such an attention whore! He knows what buttons to push in order to get some press. Of all the socialist plans that the Dem’s want to enact, this ‘fairness doctrine” is the worst- it WILL show them for exactly what they are, and there’s a good bit of society that won’t stand for it. Obama is certainly capable of signing it into law, but the price he’ll pay will be devaststing to his popularity, and we know how he loves being loved.

I really don’t think enough Americans care… It’s NOT about Rush or Mark or Hannity or Fox… It’s about freedom and the ability to speak out… It’s not talk radio, it’s us and so many don’t see the danger. I think we’re screwed.
Mark Garnett on February 13, 2009 at 9:03 AM
America will pay attention if they think their favorite shows will have to be censored- This opens up cans of worms that have the potential to cripple the entertainment industry. AND, if they dare try to limit the “fairness” to the radio airwaves, it’ll be the supreme court that ultimately decides the case and good luck hiding it from America then.

Bill could do the talk show circuit himself… I’m betting he could support an entire network if he went on the air.
The airwaves are a marketplace of ideas, and Air America didn’t die because we conservatives killed it — it died because its own target audience didn’t give it the numbers it needed to survive and grow. So now the owners of the dead cow want to give us half of it and take away half of our quite healthy Bossie.
Typical Democrats, and true to the meme: What is mine is mine and what is yours is mine too.
