Barack Obama came to his “local home town”?

amerpundit on February 12, 2009 at 1:47 PM

No, worse: his "local hometown where I live..."

What was missing was the vicious payoff to let Julio know he'd been Punk'd. That would have been a frank introduction to the cruel world of radio that this jamoke strives to get into.

Veteran radio broadcasters with families and little other discernible skills to fall back on continue to be let go from major market stations across the country and this clown is getting job offers? If he doesn't break into the biz working graveyard hours babysitting automated satellite fed programming in market #197 while making sure the coffee maker is ready for the morning show to arrive for their 5:30am show at 5:40, then there truly is no justice in the world.

Who would ever think that this guy was Barack Obama. For his biggest fan, he sure doesn't know what he sounds like.

That was funny when he cried that he has worked at the same company for 4yrs and isn't getting what he thinks is the proper pay for someone with his experiance selling fries. I must have laughed for a straight 5 minuites.

Good observation, I think. I found it pretty cruel, also. The guy doesn’t seem to have any meanness about him.

mikeyboss on February 12, 2009 at 11:20 PM
The more I listen to Julio, the more he sounds like Mel Kiper Jr. If he bones up on the NFL draft, ESPN might fit him in.

Parents of children who will never succeed beyond a certain level are sometimes jerks but often just regular folks who have to deal with a son who is limited and may never be able to really progress much farther than fixing your Big Mac at McDonald’s. Period.

marybel on February 12, 2009 at 5:38 PM
True, but I'd probably have more sympathy in this case were it not for the Left's constant attempts to paint conservatives and their leaders as drooling cretins. At least most of us aren't waiting for Pres. Santa Claus. The question is how typical Julio is of Obama fans. I'd say, disturbingly typical.

What do you expect from a boy who still lives at home with Mommy and Daddy? Will America EVER have another mature generation?

Andy in Agoura Hills on February 12, 2009 at 5:05 PM

Its a damn shame isn't it? Years from now my son will probably ask me about what happened during these times. I know I can say with pride that I worked hard and never gave up. I hope to teach him is that he has the freedom to be what he wants to be, you have to work hard.

It may not come fast, it may not come easy but eventually it comes. The satisfaction of accomplishment all on your own is that much sweeter.

You know what, if Julio really wants a job with benefits right now, why doesn't he join the Army? You get free medical, dental, hell even room and board! I know, I did it at his age, and liked it.

Oh wait, he'd actually have to do work and have some discipline. You think some NCO is gonna give a crap if something isn't fair? I'd like him to tell a drill sergeant that.

I just really don't get it, this swooning over a snake oil salesman. What's really sad is that my very own son (while not head over heels like this guy) was very impressed with Obama, used to tell me to listen to him, that he had great ideas, that he was going to change things and put a stop to some of the madness in DC. Now? He's very disappointed and stunned at some of his actions thus far. It's sad to see someone have such hope only to find out they've been sold a bill of goods.

You're right, this Taco Bell kid was no Julio. He was blessed with the mental capacity to achieve at a much higher level, and I am as excited by his story as you are. I also empathise with the fella above working two jobs, just trying to keep body and soul together. My husband and I did the same when we were starting out.

There's really very little that's inspiring about Julio beyond his naivete, innocence, and enthusiasm. I wish he couldn't vote as well, but there are plenty of really educated people who fell for and voted for Obama's schtick. Parents of children who will never succeed beyond a certain level are sometimes jerks but often just regular folks who have to deal with a son who is limited and may never be able to really progress much farther than fixing your Big Mac at McDonald's. Period.

Folks might want to back off just a tad about Julio. There are lots of feeble minded in the world who exhibit the same blind enthusiasm as Julio, and are very easily made the fool or taken advantage of.

His MANAGER told him he should get out of McDs for whatever job offer he got???

It reminded me…I was at a Taco Bell on vacation last month. The guy on the register was running the place. Young 20’s, handsome, energetic, lighting fires under the employees, engaged with customers, over the top in customer satisfaction–so much so that I noticed. I complimented him, and said with an attitude and work ethic like he had, he’s not going to be here long. He said, “No, ma’am, I’m staying right here. This has been my first job, I’ve been here for seven years, and I’m working my way to the top of Taco Bell.” I was so inspired by him. He was no Julio, in other words. He was WORKING his way to the top.

You should see the way the local media in Southwest Florida treats Julio and the lady who begged for a house. They’re celebrities with “inspiring life stories”, featured in endless admiring local news profiles - the kind of profile that would never, ever be run about a captain of industry who created thousands of jobs, or a brilliant investor who went from rags to riches in the business world.

Welcome to the Oprah edition of America, where a billionaire with limitless power watches the little people hug each other and compete to tell the most “inspiring” story of woe and ruin, before gently stepping in and telling them how to vote.

Doctor Zero on February 12, 2009 at 2:17 PM

Indeed.

That is apparently the world we live in now.

If you work hard, are successful, don't complain about how "unfair" everything is, and even create jobs in the process, you are evil and to be despised.

If you can't get your life together and then go whine to the President about it, yours is an "inspiring" life story.

One wonders what the endgame of this type of thinking will be.

You should see the way the local media in Southwest Florida treats Julio and the lady who begged for a house. They’re celebrities with “inspiring life stories”, featured in endless admiring local news profiles – the kind of profile that would never, ever be run about a captain of industry who created thousands of jobs, or a brilliant investor who went from rags to riches in the business world.

Welcome to the Oprah edition of America, where a billionaire with limitless power watches the little people hug each other and compete to tell the most “inspiring” story of woe and ruin, before gently stepping in and telling them how to vote.

Folks might want to back off just a tad about Julio. There are lots of feeble minded in the world who exhibit the same blind enthusiasm as Julio, and are very easily made the fool or taken advantage of. I have taught young, naive, borderline mentally challenged people, and they have many of the same characteristics as Julio. There is a reason Julio lives at home and has been working so long at McDonald’s with no advancement. This may be the best job he can keep. Given Julio’s limitations, I find direct contacts like this fake phone call bordering on cruelty.

Screw that. I've been unemployed twice in the past two years and held four different jobs. The IT job market in New Orleans sucks. I'm not complaining or asking Obama to give me a job that's stable and has good benefits.

I'm driving back and forth to Baton Rouge from New Orleans to earn a decent paycheck so I can raise my family right now. I put on about 150 miles a day on my car each day. I'm not out begging Obama to give me more money for gas or free maintenance for my car. I'm not asking for a handout to give me a free place in Baton Rouge or to help with moving expenses.

I busted my ass for everything I got. I'm not going to sell out my dignity because of some charasmatic false prophet. I went out and got job oppurtunities and I beleive I finally landed one that will be stable and I won't have to drive so much to get to work.

Nobody wants to sacrafice or do hard work to earn anything in life. They want it all to be handed to them on a pretty little platter. Boo hoo feel sorry for me waaaaah.

Hard working people like me are doing what they can every day to earn a living, raise their family, and make it through with some dignity and a sense of pride. I already have a savior and Obama ain't it.

Screw this guy, he's gullible and should be called out for the fact he's easily led and fooled. He has no dignity, no confidence and I won't feel sorry when his little world comes crashing down and reality starts to set in. Where will your false prophet be then Julio?

His MANAGER told him he should get out of McDs for whatever job offer he got???

It reminded me...I was at a Taco Bell on vacation last month. The guy on the register was running the place. Young 20's, handsome, energetic, lighting fires under the employees, engaged with customers, over the top in customer satisfaction--so much so that I noticed. I complimented him, and said with an attitude and work ethic like he had, he's not going to be here long. He said, "No, ma'am, I'm staying right here. This has been my first job, I've been here for seven years, and I'm working my way to the top of Taco Bell." I was so inspired by him. He was no Julio, in other words. He was WORKING his way to the top.

If people like Julio are going to spend their lives waiting for god-kings to come along and lift them out of poverty, they should not have the right to participate in choosing the god-kings, or influencing public policy in any other way.....
If Julio plays his cards right, he might be able to get somewhere in his non-burger-flipping job just in time to have his income confiscated to pay off the staggering deficit run up by his hero.

Here's the thing for me. There are plenty of low-paying "communications" jobs for those interested in the profession. Why would this guy be hanging out at a fast food joint for years if his passion is elsewhere?

I also want to know what genius of a career counselor told this clearly low-intelligence moron that his future was in communications.

I had to laugh when I looked at the screen shot above. On the bottom it says "Talk to Rick." You know when they put their 20 viewers' Twitter postings up. One TOM (Typical Obama Moron) wrote, "Geithner's plans :D ." Puh-lease. Geithner doesn't even know what the plan is.

You know what's really cruel about Julio? He can vote.

There's nothing dishonorable about working at McDonald's. I worked a lot of crap jobs when I was a kid in the 80s, too. I did not escape them by falling on my knees before Ronald Reagan at a town hall meeting and begging for a better job. The difference between a boy and a man is the difference between the way Obama handled Julio, and the way Reagan would have.

If people like Julio are going to spend their lives waiting for god-kings to come along and lift them out of poverty, they should not have the right to participate in choosing the god-kings, or influencing public policy in any other way. Only the people paying for the bloated government should have any say in how much money it collects or spends. Otherwise you get absurd spectacles like the Porkulus bill, or pitiful loses whining to the President to save them from the slave pits of the Dark Lord Mayor McCheese.

OT Sort of:

I was just in someone's office and heard Dear Leader's voice on a commercial for some service organization. Is that normal? I don't recall ever hearing W on any commercials.

All of this is creeping me out.

Florida law allows 14 and 15-year olds to work a limited schedule: Not after 9 pm on school nights, not more than 3 hours on school nights, and some other restrictions.

Most employers don't hire 14 and 15 year-olds because of the limits, but McDonalds and Winn-Dixie do. I don't know about Winn-Dixie, but McDonalds restaurants are franchisee-owned and some of the owners hire the kids and ignore the limits.

My older son worked 8-hour shifts at the local McD's when he was 14
