Video: Are you the change you’ve been waiting for?

Via InstaGlenn, Reason TV goes hunting for fish in a barrel. It’s the man-on-the-street version of that celebrity pledge: Either their commitment to service is conditional on who holds the White House or else it isn’t, in which case they’re not quite as inspired by The One as they thought. This is what happens, I guess, when you take Obama’s Chauncey Gardner-esque catchphrases seriously. Which, per the Onion, you really shouldn’t.

John the Baptist, in his moment of doubt, asked the true Messiah, “Are you the one we’ve been waiting for?”
To paraphrase Lloyd Bentson,
I know the Messiah. The Messiah is a friend of mine.
Mr Obama, you’re no Messiah.

Now we know what the Obama Nation looks and sounds like.
Dr. Cwac reminded me of that song that goes: ‘They’re poor little lambs who have lost there way…baaaa, baaaa, baaaa!
Something tells me that they were lost at birth.
Say bye bye to The United States.

With two competing entertainment industries now (one in hollywood, and one in the white house), our Precedent-in-chief’s support is much more fickle than he believes to be the case which will lead him to over play his hand and face a severe backlash by those that are paying attention. All it takes is a really cool reality tv show like when “who wants to be a millionaire or Survivor” was new and all the lemmings will be otherwise occupied with a bag of cheetos and a coke in hand.

Meh, “fair weather Americans” is all they are, which is not to be confused with true Americans that stand by their nation, stand by their principles, and stand by their morals regardless of who is president!
I do not like Obama, no because of who he is but because he is not ready to be POTUS and is in way over his head at a critical juncture in our nations history.
For our nation and its peoples sake I hope Obama doesn’t fail, he is now the president of our nation, a nation I love and would give my life for, however it is obvious 57% of Americans were fooled into voting for an empty suited celebrity and not a leader as the last three weeks have already proven!
TO hell with these “fair weather Americans” as THEY ARE NOT TRUE AMERICANS!

And who, sir, gave you the moral authority to determine who “true Americans” are? While I believe a lot of these folks are naive, I do not want to say they are less American than any one of us, just because their vision of America is not appealing to a lot of people here.
peter_griffin on February 10, 2009 at 5:18 PM
Okay, well look on the bright side…unless Obama changes the constitution between now and then, these people will go back to not doing anything once Obama is not president. All we have to do is hang in there?

Actually when I see these morons, I really do think that bringing back the draft might be a good thing. Nothing like some good old army training to enlighten your world view and knock the stupid out of you. The spoiled brats of the today need to learn a bit about life in the real world and what it truly means to serve.
Plus when we invade Pakistan we are going to need more troops.

milwife88 on February 10, 2009 at 5:24 PM
So, basically a liberal is useless to themselves and society unless ‘their’ guy is in power?
gwelf on February 10, 2009 at 5:24 PM
I somehow don’t like the notion that anyone (other than the US constitution) can determine what is American. Doing so is going down a slippery slope, because there may be people who can say “paying higher taxes” is American, and so on. It just becomes a catch phrase to cocoon one’s sense of morality, and that ends up tarnishing this great word, and this great nation.
peter_griffin on February 10, 2009 at 5:28 PM
Situational patriots!
Kensington on February 10, 2009 at 5:28 PM
Good phrase, I like that description :)
peter_griffin on February 10, 2009 at 5:29 PM
You can see why they are in favor of socialistic policies and government – they can’t be informed unless their political leader informs them and they cannot be pushed to helpful action unless their political leader inspires them. Perhaps we can postulate from this that in general conservatives are pro-individual because a conservative is a free-thinking and free-acting individual that doesn’t need the state to run their lives while in general a liberal is pro-government because they cannot derive meaning in life unless the government gets involved.
gwelf on February 10, 2009 at 5:29 PM
Since when did throwing shoes at an inflatable caricature of a former President count as being involved with politics and community service?
Damiano on February 10, 2009 at 5:31 PM
I’m pretty sure Andrew Breitbart coined the phrase. :)
Kensington on February 10, 2009 at 5:32 PM
Ok, you make a good point. But i also understand the reason for calling these people un-American. Because i still think that only helping this great country when your guy wins, is not very American like behavior.

And my vote is cancelled out by people like this…(sigh)
PappaMac on February 10, 2009 at 5:38 PM
Well I do say they are less American than me and I have the right to say that and I say it not from a perspective of having some higher “moral authority” as you phrase it but I base my assertion on THE FACT these ingrates did nothing but cry, snivel, whine, wrongfully accuse, and bash our previous POTUS for 8 years (some very heinous accusations I might add, like MURDERER, etc.) instead of doing all these “great things” they are now willing to do only because they now have a president that is cool, that they like, and is ready to hand out lots of government goodies!
It was the above stated reasons alone (and not some “moral authority”) that I call them “fair weather Americans” and I will continue to refer to them as such no matter what you or others say. I’m not better than they are, but I am a much better American then they ever will be!
Also, could you imagine if the America people acted in the same selfish and childish way as these ingrates do when WWII broke out…seriously think about that for a moment…imagine the American people protesting after Pearl Harbor, protesting having to go to war, yelling “not in my name” or “no war for oil” or the president is worse than Tojo, the president is the world’s worst terrorist, etc, etc!
If that had happened we’d all be slaves to Nazism or Japan’s emperor, but thank God the greatest generation at the time were TRUE AMERICANS and not the pampered ingrates like these “fair weather American’s” are.
I stand by my statement, these dolts are nothing more than “FAIR WEATHER AMERICANS!”

After they were done blathering about all the things they were going to do, the reporter should have asked them if they would be willing to provide him with their contact info so he could do another on-camera follow-up with them in a year ….just to watch the initial look on their faces when they think they might just be held accountable for once.
Patrick S on February 10, 2009 at 5:56 PM
I’ll pick (3), but I’d also like (5): both (1) and (3). (2) might not be an option for those who work and pay taxes, but may not have enough money to own land because the costs of doing so in their home state are too high. (1) might have an issue with some disabled people, but I feel you need to have the cognizance to make a decision to vote. Though I’ll also say that I met a man with Downs, who really was cognizant, and actually one of the smartest men I knew, just locked in a wheelchair.
(3) sounds like a fair trade. No taxes, no vote. That should obviously include that you must pay your fair share of taxes (no cheats!).

BigWyo on February 10, 2009 at 6:03 PM
Exactly, and thank you!
Yep, further supporting the point I was making earlier, these dolts are not true Americans, they are “Fair Weather Americans” whose own selfish needs and ideology are placed above the greater needs of our nation and ALL AMERICANS!
I respectfully disagree with your assertion. What myself, others, and the point of this thread is about is pointing out the hypocrisy of the left and how they turn on a dime from being spiteful of America, not being proud to be an American, etc, etc to all of a sudden being the total opposite now that their man is POTUS. That there is the definition of being a selfish, childish hypocritical ingrate!
As I said in a previous post, imagine if this generation were around at the outbreak of WWII, we would have lost!
Catch phrases have nothing to do with it peter, I don’t always like what my government does and I make my dissatisfaction known at the polling booth, but what I don’t do is refuse to do good things, or do what is needed, or make the needed sacrifice for the overall good of our nation just because my guy isn’t POTUS, and that’s what make me a better American than these Fair Weather American dolts!

I like the chick that says she’s already in service because she works in a non-profit field. Working for a non-profit doesn’t mean that you are doing volunteer work. There are plenty of non-profits where the top level people get paid 6-figure salaries. I’m not saying everyone that works at a non-profit makes big bucks, but very few of the folks working at Starbucks make big bucks either.
