Chavez faces another key vote this year. If he stops spending money on his pet projects, he’ll lose the support of the poor, practically his only constituency now. If he doesn’t pay the contractors, though, his entire economy could collapse, creating a huge backlash against the man who claimed nationalization would cure all Venezuela’s ills.

A year from now just insert BO and it will sound the same…..

Can we safely say now that the $120.00 a barrel oil of a few months ago was NOT a supply problem? How strange it was that it came just before the election. I’m sure it was just a coincidence.

Cavuto, I am sure has an answer to this…he was sure it was all production related.
But, there is an oversupply, the world economy is in worse shape then ours, and production, shipping, manufacturing is down all over the world.

You make money for yourself, and you employ your folks at the best work you can find. And if that means taking a chance on a foreign dictator to keep you in business and your employees paid, then you do it. Otherwise, you and your employees starve.

Lisa Margonelli wrote about Venezuela’s mismanagement of its oil industry in “Oil on the Brain: Petroleum’s Long, Strange Trip to Your Tank.” The whole book is worth reading but the chapter on Venezuela is particularly pertinent right now. Basically, Chavez has been looting the oil for years and not maintaining his oil infrastructure. It was obvious that it would end in catastrophe.

However, there is a bright side. Soon all those ads showing Joe Kennedy delivering oil in person, direct from Chavez to you, will be pulled from the TV.
