It (Still) Won't Work...

The real problem with the stimulus bill is not that it is too big (although it is too big) nor its various objectionable ingredients (although many are objectionable), but rather that it is based on a false economic theory.

Do you think that you should try to know your subject when being critical of another's speech? Hilarious.

It’s a shame you’re too elitist to actually consider that other people are thinking, and not just turning their nose at your star. I’m a big Palin fan, that doesn’t mean I accept everything and anything just because it has a ‘Palin’ attached to it.
I don't think being a "Palin fan" means having to accept anything and everything "Palin". I just think that criticism of her would have risen above linguistic nitpicking or sniping at her family etc by now. You know, criticisms that have more to do with issues.

Xolom on February 8, 2009 at 9:51 AM

Yes, I meant passive voice. I have no idea what the hell passive tense means, but it's nice to hear from you too.

I'm not talking about being folksy, or dropping or adding 'r's or whatever other letter. I'm not talking about vocabulary. I'm talking about sentence construction.

Anyways.. I looked up her Van Susteren interview, and it does look ok. Things could be set more straightforward, but I accept that she doesn't do that. So maybe I had in mind more her first interviews. Which goes with what I said, that she might be doing it to give herself more time.

I love how nobody arguing with me even considered looking things up. Instead throwing things my way which have nothing to do with what I was talking about. I said I thought her sentence construction was convoluted, and all i get was that I'm against an Alaskan accent, or being too folksy, or whatever.

You think that's going to win Palin the next election? Good luck.

I'll remember next time I argue with my neighbors on Palin's behalf, that we don't need facts. All we need is a belief that Palin's great, and everybody will just fall in line with that.

Now, to fan the flames a bit: a couple of weeks ago people were saying that in 2012 we'll need a candidate who could beat Obama's star status. Has anybody considered that after Obama, Americans would want somebody without star status but with lots and lots of experience? Somebody who would be able to straighten out the mess?

The beliefs brought upon by Reagan and his administration that:

• Starts with the presumption that the government can do nothing correctly.
Bullsh*t. It's the belief that government has its own sphere.

• Allows the proverbial Wall Street to do whatever it wants
Bullsh*t again.

• Rely on the individual
Absolutely. Something wrong with that?

• Sends off work to third world countries while doing relatively nothing for our citizens

sethstorm on February 7, 2009 at 10:14 PM
Are you a mercantilist?

Did I say anything about her ACCENT?! Goodness.

I’m not talking about her accent, I’m not talking about her vocabulary. I said she talks in convoluted sentences and uses the passive tense too much. If you look at any of her latest (and not so latest) interviews, you’ll see plenty of examples.

and once the damage is done it wll be up to Republicans to fix it again, aka 9/11 was something that took years, under Dem lack of sight, to develope. We are paying a hefty price in loss of a lot of our freedoms now. We cant even wear our shoes to an airplane now. C'mon 2010. My ballot is ready.

saint,

The set has no depth. Steele looks like he´s jammed right against that background. Somehow reminds me of the airplane cockpit in Plan 9 from Outer Space.

It´s not a question of money, just professionalism and ideas.

Don't know about the primaries but Obama's sets in his pretentious Office of the President elect videos were a joke (I remember one with fake brown timber panelling and a sorry pot plant; one with window in background and wonky curtains overlooking street at dusk. Augh. Cheap and nasty). Probably because then he had a limited government provided budget.

They only look good since he's been in the White House and gotten his hands on a nice historic backdrop and lots and lots of other people's money again.

There was nothing wrong with the Steele set. Practice what you preach. Spend money on substance not frivolities. A bit more gravitas in both content and delivery perhaps (in a trillion dollar package you find just a $12 million dollar fish barrier or something?)

I’m not talking about her accent, I’m not talking about her vocabulary. I said she talks in convoluted sentences and uses the passive tense too much. If you look at any of her latest (and not so latest) interviews, you’ll see plenty of examples.

If you prove to me that’s how they speak in Alaska, I’ll shut up. problem is, I’ve never heard any other Alaskan on TV speak in almost exclusively the passive tense.

Of course that didn’t happen. Too many people whined about our candidate, and left the door open for a man who, after a mere three weeks, has done more damage than any president except Jimmuh Carter did in four years.

Ah, another McCain suck*ss playing 'if only..' Yeah, let's play that. If only we'd had a real candidate instead of some never was backstabbing fossil that everybody hated...If only we'd had a candidate who could articulate a message instead of endorse his opponent every time he spoke...if only we'd had a candidate who attacked his opponent during the election with the same gusto he attacked his VP nominee after the election. If only MrScribbler would find a hobby he was good at because he sucks at political analysis. If only.

Are you really serious? I mean you think people are going to compare the RNC chairman with Obama? Did they compare Powell, Thomas, or Rice with Obama? Chair of RNC is insignificant. I am amazed that anyone thinks it matters.

I don't know what the heck matters any more. Apparently the stupid/ignorant 52% of america didn't think any of the following mattered

- Voting to throw babies in a storeroom to die of exposure/dehydration
- Closely associating with terrorists
- Espousing socialism
- Having close ties to marxists
- Seeking out marxist professors
- Having a wife who was never proud of america
- Grabbing his 'package' during the national anthem
- Sitting in a pew for 20 years with a pastor who yells GOD DAMN AMERICA
- Spouting idiocy like "Iran is a tiny Country"
- Not releasing any of his records
- participating in a land deal / board stuffing that would put any of us mortals in jail for decades.

Yep, I know what you mean, I'm really confused about what matters. Steele does have a personality and can provide leadership. I hope he's ready for the biggest rectal exam every by the leftist media not to mention tax audits going back to his puberty.

That is why I could never be in a position of real power like Steele. I'd have been tempted to point to my eyes with my index fingers and point to snowe, collins and specter with my middle fingers..

I guesss arlen wants to be a RINO to suck up to unicorn loving obama (both have one horn)

After all the grief Oslime-a got over the exorbitant money spent on promoting himself, now we are going to bitch about the frugal set?

Americans are tired of the pomp these asswipes lavish on themselves! Remember Palin's dresses? Oslime-a's Greek columns? The 150 million dollar coronation of "The One"?

Steele's message is as powerful or more so because he didn't focus on superficial sets to give his message validity. It would do all of us who claim to be conservatives a service if we were to remember that.

He needs to be on his game, as the media will be itching to compare him unfavorably to The One and these weekend message duels give them a perfect excuse.

Also, can we give the man a set worthy of his station? Obama’s been using warm lighting and handsome wood-paneled offices as backdrops for his video communiques since the primaries.

Are you really serious? I mean you think people are going to compare the RNC chairman with Obama? Did they compare Powell, Thomas, or Rice with Obama? Chair of RNC is insignificant. I am amazed that anyone thinks it matters.

As for the cool lighting and professional videos. . . Obama is THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES! Next thing you know you'll be lamenting that the RNC chair doesn't get his own 747 either. . . and he might even have to fly coach (gasp).

If people are pinning their hopes on Steele for the 'great comeback of the GOP', you are going to be sorely disappointed. Although he's a great token to get more black, northern, pro-choice Catholics in the GOP (you know, the base).

Not fer nuttin', but AP's point about
Also, can we give the man a set worthy of his station? Obama’s been using warm lighting and handsome wood-paneled offices as backdrops for his video communiques since the primaries. This looks like it was shot during a commercial break on “Hannity.”

...is very duly noted.

And they'll miss another opportunity here, with this one.

IMHO, brand design throughout the entire campaign was a major player for both candidates. As an amateur designer (even) it wasn't difficult to see how dramatically different the brands were throughout the campaign. McCain's team had a big-time early advantage over its local competition- and that came to benefit him down the road, until he ran into the buzz-saw that was the material being put together for Team O.

Obama, in truth, was branded better than any candidate has been since Billy Jeff in the Fleetwood Mac days.

Branding's important not only for the competition but for the base. The right's done a miserable job of it for about six years now, and it's not helping. If the carrier of the message you send is amateur, then it is fair to assume that the message being sent is as well.

Time for the right to pony up and spend some cash as well as intellectual investment on this. It's a tactical way to make a dramatic difference in tone that their opposition has discovered works. Now's the time to make the investment, to take advantage of fantastic branding opportunities. before those too, like their contyrol of Government, is branded right out of their hands.
