Panetta goon manhandles reporter

Hmmmmmm. I don’t recall any incident in which a Bush administration official had a bodyguard manhandle a reporter, at the CIA or anywhere else. Can you imagine the media reaction if this had happened a year ago?
Following Leon Panetta’s confirmation hearing Thursday, several reporters approached the CIA director-designate in the hallway outside room G-50 in the Dirksen Building.
There, CongressDaily reporter Chris Strohm — upon asking a question — was physically restrained by a man who accompanied Panetta at hearings both days.
Strohm, when reached by phone Friday, said he was unsure of the man’s role.
“I felt this hand grab my right arm and push me aside,” Strohm said.
By his account, Strohm told the man, “Please don’t touch me” more than once. Eventually, the man let him go.
CQ’s Tim Starks objected when it happened, and later told Politico’s Michael Calderon that he’d never seen any journalist pushed around like that before. Strohm downplayed it later, telling Calderon that worse things had happened to him during his career, but apparently not when asking an American public official a question.
I can imagine how this would have been covered in the Bush administration. We would have heard about it on every broadcast channel. Keith Olbermann would have complained about Nazi tactics in silencing reporters. Media organizations would have called for Congressional investigation.
Now? Somehow I doubt the media will make a stink about it. After all, this is the president they helped elect and the Hope and Change they wanted.

Hey Panetta goon, quit torturing our journalists! I demand an investigation. Our journalists have rights you know.
In other news, Gitmo prisoners given puppies and cookies, keys to the Pentagon, US military encryption codes, then shipped off to Waldorf Astoria while awaiting fair trial.

I think this needs to be high profile. Panetta is not qualified to head the CIA – and now he is a brutish goon on top of all that.
This man should be forced to step down immediately.
What next – reporters will be jailed for asking questions of the Obamonkey administration?

It would seem important to find out what the thug’s job was in the Obama administration, if indeed he is on the payroll.
What I’m saying is that Obama has floated trial balloons about a volunteer force that could be mobilized to swoop in during tense situations like hurricanes and national emergencies. Unpaid, and therefore unaccountable to us.
Recall the Fox News reporter who was roughed up at a voting location by a Black Panther (or would that be a Panther of Color in today’s language?) volunteer.
In short, what the man who roughed up the reporter a “volunteer?” If so, this incident is far more disturbing than it seems.

After the election, I pulled out my copy of Howard Ruff’s 1978 classic “How to Prosper During the Coming Bad Years”. (recommended) The book is a reflection on the Carter disaster, but I ran across a section that has been haunting me for the last 3 months.
Chapter 9 “Power to the President” predicts doom in a wild-eyed manner, particularly with respect to Executive Order #11490 (I wonder if it is still in effect?). After citing some of the contents, Ruff concludes:
Hyperbole? Yes. But thinking back on the last campaign and the performance of the press and the public, I get chills.

Ed linked to Politico. This is their headline on the story:
Reporter restrained after Panetta hearing
What a spin that is. Ed’s headline reflected what actually happened. The Politico headline infers that the reporter was doing something wrong. Usually when I’ve read about someone being “restrained” it’s because they’ve been aggressive, i.e., restraining order, etc.

DL13 on February 7, 2009 at 11:31 AM
The press put themselves on the reservation by selling their souls to get the great “i won” elected. Now they’re nothing but impotent little sycophants with brown-stained noses.
Anyone that tries to be an actual reporter – out of this “special” group – will have to be “restrained” or ridiculed or (gasp) banished from his holy presence. Too funny!
captconrad on February 7, 2009 at 11:45 AM
Not that we could ever count on them to begin with but I wonder what will happen if the press becomes disillusioned in large numbers. This kind of treatment could spur the process, as much as they like Pres. Obama, they are pretty fond of themselves.

Curiously, after an emotional denial of his earlier claim of being physically restrained, Mr Strohm mailed a series of type written letters to his landlady, employer, family and friends. In the letters Mr Strohm indicated it was a regrettable series of misunderstandings and that he has the utmost respect for messers Panetta and Obama.
Mr Strohm further indicated planned on leaving on a long planned vacation and asked that no one attempt to locate him or make contact. His phone has subsequently been disconnected.

Why didn’t ANYONE nail Panetta with the FACTS that under HIS watch as chief of staff, the SAME policy was carried out as was under the Bush administration as to Enhanced Interrogations?
NOTE: Waterboarding IS legal under the UCMJ, if it wasn’t, waterboarding could NOT be conducted in SERE. Waterboarding is being conducted to THIS DAY in SERE and is STILL legal under the UCMJ and A.G. Holder has NO jurisdiction under the UCMJ.
We get it…. Panetta and Holder allowed the EXACT same policy to be conducted under the Clinton Administration, yet pop a vein over interrogations under the same policies by the Bush administration. It’s pretty damned hard to attack anyone else when you’ve been a part of the SAME policies under a prior administration.
