Collins: I might vote against the final stimulus bill if it’s too porky
posted at 5:29 pm on February 7, 2009 by Allahpundit
The Freepers are buzzing about this so I figured you’d want to see the clip. Note: She doesn’t mean she might vote against the final Senate bill. That’s a done deal. She’s talking about the real final bill, the one that’ll come back from conference committee after the House and Senate huddle next week. If they start dumping money back into it that was cut from this one — which is possible — then, in theory, she’ll pull the plug. Anyone see that happening realistically, though, considering (a) she’s already shown she’s willing to tolerate a more expensive bill than Nancy Pelosi, and (b) she’s had her patriotism sanctified by the blessed hand of The One? Worth every penny of that trillion.
If you want to make your feelings known, here’s her contact information. Please be polite. She’ll ignore you either way, but at least your conscience will be clear.

Too late, I sent mine to her last night when I wasn’t feeling so polite, sorry. I didn’t use profanity, if that helps.
OTOH, I don’t see how it hurts that much for her to know how angry people are.

Why do I suspect that she won’t find it “too porky?”

I admire how you wrote this article Allah. I wrote her last night and this morning. I was nice, but told her that she is a Traitor if she votes for this Stimulus. I also said I hope her State throws her under the bus so to speak. Not that way it was nicer. I wrote all three of them, as I plan to call Monday early morning. I might live in Ca. But what these so called Officials do effects all of us in the long run.

So the Senate bill has no pork? C’mon, Senator Collins, get real.
jgapinoy on February 7, 2009 at 7:27 PM
If we cannot get RINOs out in the nomination, we need to vote for the Democrat they are running against and give the seat to other side. These people cannot be allowed to live in the lap of Senate luxury while holding up their middle finger to the party they are running in.
Arlen Specter needs to be the first victim of the newly expanded Operation Chaos. If we cannot get Toomey in for the nomination, we need to get Republicans to vote for the Democrat challenger and send Specter home. How can we ever get these people to respect the party if we don’t threaten them with private citizen life and mean it.

Is there a way we can just keep from having to look at that traitorous hag’s face? I am really having a physical reaction at having to look at her smiling sh!7-eating grin without having serious stomach issues. Hearing her be a cheerleader for the Chosen One and as such has decided to support the bill makes me feel like a cheaten-on husband, whose wife is telling him that maybe I should try liking it.
What the hell kind of Republicans are they breeding in Maine???

She drew a line in the sand, no more than 95% pork. If it goes back to 97%, she won’t vote for it unless they ask really, really nicely. Or if that 2% is for her state.

Or if it’s a Monday, Mondays are always rough. Thursdays, too. Sometimes Tuesdays. Wednesday’s a bummer, too. Maybe Fridays. Or weekends.

Fuquay Steve on February 7, 2009 at 8:31 PM
Can’t we kick out from the Republican party anyone who votes for this?
It’s a complete betrayal of a bedrock party principle.
And it sends billions to ACORN, which commits electoral fraud to get the other party elected.
So, it’s both a betrayal of principle and on a practical level very damaging to the party’s future prospects, not to mention the fabric of our democracy.

If this
stimulusObama Manifesto has pork? If? In the long run it will cost well over 1.1 trillion dollars and she’s thinking “if?”Then she goes on to say that it includes a significant amount of money towards infrastructure porjects? How does 15% equate to significant in the overal scheme of this monstrosity that may well lead to hyper-inflation and a further devaluation of the dollar? We’ve yet to see what happens on Monday when TARP 2 is presented to add another 1 trillion dollars to the massive amount of the Federal deficit and debt.
If you add TARP 1 the total amount will be well over 3,000,000,000,000 dollars. This pork will along with the upcoming TARP 2 will add another 2,000,000,000,000 to the current deficit which now stand at just under 11,000,000,000,000 dollars. And they haven’t even got to the regular appropriations this year.
If anything this spending makes the financial and economic outlook of the United States destined for a complete collapse.
This doesn’t even take into account the unfunded Federal mandates that are hidden in this bill.
If?

If I had 30 or 40 years til retirement, this wouldn’t bother me as much.
You know what I don’t get? Where’s the outrage? This is “Economy Tanks, Boomers and Retirees Hardest Hit.”
I’m a Baby Boomer, retirement isn’t that far off. We’ve watched our retirement and investment plans take hits and with this pork atrocity, it doesn’t look like our economy is going to recover within the next decade. I don’t have 10 years for my portfolio to regain value, my investments need to be growing now.
There have to be a lot of people who are already retired and have really been hurt by all of this. Why is there no mention of their struggles?

My email to Collins last night, as well as to Snowe, “Spectre”, Pryor & Lincoln, included this statement — “Bernie Sanders had the honesty to declare himself a Socialist. Do YOU?”
Emails were also sent to Corbin, DeMint and Imhoffe asking them to filibuster this giant earmark masquerading as a stimulus bill.
In addition, I also emailed McConnnell asking him to remove the “3″ from any “ranking” positions that they may hold on committees.
This is nothing more than a slush fund for democrat surrogates.

Better that the three morons (Snow, Collins, and Specter) just go caucus with the Dems, and let the Dems have their filibuster-proof majority (since these idiot traitors are going to give them the effective bloc, anyway) to have their names the only ones on this and the rest of the suidicidal and treasonous legislation they are going to be passing with the idiot messiah.
Let the rest of the session be nothing but infighting among the Dems, and their new, bestest buddies, to see who gets to rape America the most. These people are all despicable.

No pardon necessary. I know it is scheduled to be closed in 2011. I wont be surprised if Brunswick NAS is suddenly saved and continues to serve no purpose.
F15Mech on February 7, 2009 at 10:20 PM
Thought that BRAC would not allow that. That was the whole point of the commission to supposedly get politics out of the closing process (I know it doesn’t). What it does is move the politics to the pre-closing debates — after the closing announcements, it was my impression that Congress had hamstrung itself to prevent being able to change those decisions.

Simply put if Collins/Snowe had half a brain they would set a high price for their flip.
To quote Blago (this vote is F’in valuable you dont just give it away).
While Brunswick NAS may be closed in 2011, don’t be surprised if Brunswick “JetPort” starts being built in its place, even though it is not needed. Heck NAS-B runways are longer then PWM’s so maybe Maine should close Portland’s airport and re-open B-NAS.

My email to Susan Collins:
Dear Senator Collins:
I will get right to the point — I am very disappointed that you have gone along with the President’s Stimulus Bill presented in the Senate. It is clear to anyone with an internet connection who is willing to take the time to read about this legislation that this will not have a stimulating effect on the economy.
As a business person in a leading financial (privately held and HIGHLY solvent) company, I think I know the difference between efforts that will truly create new jobs – tax cuts for businesses and individuals COUPLED WITH spending cuts – as opposed to efforts that will merely make (if they’re lucky) some short term blips in economic activity in isolated sectors, in this case, mainly public. Read Barron’s this weekend — there you will see that the crux of the present crisis was a result of more governmental interference in the financial system (namely housing and the ensuing financial instruments created by the GSEs). I am also intelligent enough to be insulted by the President’s rhetoric surrounding this issue using words like “catastrophe” and blaming the Bush Administration. America has elected a poseur, an empty suit, and, quite frankly, an arrogant prick, and you’re now aiding and abetting his circus sideshow of a presidency. Congratulations.
Only the free market economy can correct itself — stimulus is fine in a time like this, but this bill won’t even come close to hitting the right buttons, and it costs WAY too much money.
I am not a registered voter in Maine — my primary residence is in Boston, but my two Massachusetts senators are such a total waste of space, I have been happy to support you in the past financially (I believe in your latest re-election bid). I am beginning to regret my decision to contribute to your campaign. I hope you can win me back.
Respectfully,

Every time you get a mail solicitation from the Republican Senatorial Election committee, or whatever they call themselves, you need to send the form back with ZERO dollars and write across the form you will not ever contribute to their general election fund again as long as their $$ support RINOS like SNOW, COLLINS and SPECTRE (he is running in 2010). I did this in the 08 election cycle. Then I turned around and supported the R candidates directly (like Russell who ran against Murtha, and the guy in Seattle who ran against McDermitt). I only reluctantly support chambliss when his seat became the dam to hold back the liberal tsunami wave that is crashing across our land.
Sigh.

The burden this bogus stimulous package places on folks who are working their behinds off to stay responsible and keep their heads above water is indescribable. Not only does it have no value as far as spurring the economy, but does nothing but slow it down. Every dime taken out of the real economy to fuel the democrat machine drains our people of opportunities in medicine, in production and in personal financial security.
They are totally aware of this; It is there intention.
Those who say that liberals just don’t understand economics, have yet to learn that their intention is to bring us to our financial knees, to
be dependent on them for salvation.
They do understand, they do know this. It is a deliberate attack on the American people.
They are either with us or against us. Which is it?
What they do seem to be unaware of is just how volital and raw the the taxpayer’s reaction to this so called stimulous is.
The usual guitly parties must be called to heal by Michael Steele. It is a test of his new position. Can he do it?

I’m not a constituent, but I just want to let you know how sad many of us all are. You’re about to go down in history as one of the Senators that voted for the Smoot-Holly of our generation. As one of the three, History is going to be especially hard on your legacy.
I know you probably meant well — but so did most of the people voting to replace the Weimar Republic with something “better”, and we know how that worked. I seriously doubt well descend to that level, but if we don’t, it certainly won’t be thanks to the likes of Washington sellouts like you’re being. I pray every day that you’ll wake-up tomorrow with a sudden clue, and the fortitude to stand for something by standing against something bad.

Off topic; but hey, it’s a boring morning so far…
Another Liberal who doesn’t feel it necessary to be patriotic and pay his taxes…
Overlooked in coverage of Tim Geithner’s and Tom Daschle’s unpaid taxes is the $70,000 that Minnesota Democratic senatorial candidate Al Franken has admitted to owing in back taxes, interest, and penalties.
Last April, the California Tax Franchise Board revealed that Franken owed the state $5,800 in taxes, fines, and penalties because he did not file returns in 2003 through 2007. Franken then admitted that he owed more than $50,000 in back taxes to 17 states.
Franken blamed everything on his accountant of 18 years, saying he failed to report the income from the comedian’s celebrity appearances and speeches in those states where he made money outside of Minnesota and New York, where he lives. Franken claimed he overpaid taxes in those two states and will file for refunds.
But the accountant, Allen Chanzis, has not verified Franken’s account. In fact, he has said he was told not to talk to the press. Nor has Franken released any documentation to show that he overpaid taxes in two states.
“I’ve been told to say ‘no comment,’” the accountant told reporters.
On top of failing to pay taxes in 17 states, the New York State Workers’ Compensation Board hit Franken’s corporation with a $25,000 penalty for failing to carry worker’s compensation insurance for his employees in New York. Yet Franken ran as an advocate of middle-class voters.
Just another POS Liberal heading for the Senate where he will raise our taxes and lock us up if we fail to pay!
Keemo on February 8, 2009 at 8:50 AM
Sometimes you have to tell the other countries to pound sand. It is not pleasant and it may offend Third World and Second World countries, but it must be done.
It’s more like the Reagan Republicans experiencing PATCO from the wrong end.
Never mind those Wall Street sellouts that have to serve their foreign masters. That’s how we’re in the H1/L1 mess. Never mind that H1 friendly places like IBM implicitly admit that there is no problem with US talent but push for H1-friendly use anyway. That is what you’ll get more of in the Republican Party.
He already is by standing up to those who accept bailout money but want to use it towards bonuses. He already is by having Geithner scare China.
sethstorm on February 8, 2009 at 8:59 AM
While Republicans advocate the use of tax havens? Outside of the law, the difference is minimal.

Nice email. However it’s a waste of time on your part. The only way these numbskulls react is if you call or maybe fax. Getting 1000 emails takes 10 seconds to mass delete. Getting 1000 calls take hours of manpower to answer. It actually has an impact – or can – and at least gets the attention of the imbecile senator when her staff tells her all we’re doing all day is answering phones from people pissed off about the bill. As opposed to, we got some emails on the subject and “filed” then away.
Last email I sent was to my very own POS RINO Johny Isakson. I emailed him saying I was opposed to the housing bailout bill and thought it was a terrible idea. I got an automated reply from his office detailing the bailout bill he co-wrote and telling me how happy he was that people like me would be getting the needed help courtesy of his efforts.

How does a state like Maine that fell to Obama in the 2008 presidential election have two Republican senators? The answer is that they are not Republicans . . . I don’t know what they are but they are not Republicans. The Republican senate leaders need to strip them of their committee assignments and completely ignore them. Frankly, they appear to be moles for the left and they must be closely watched.

If this lying politician can look at the current craptastic bill and not see the pork oozing out of it, then she must mean literally – a cooked swine that has been brought the the floor of the Senate.
Another contemptible, better-than-you politician boldly lying to your face with no fear of reprisal.

Term limits!!! End the capital gains tax!!! End the death tax!!! Put that in your bill dear politicians, and we might actually believe that you’re doing the work of the people…

If this bill passes because of Collins, Snowe and Spectre and then goes to conference and again passes with no Repub House and Senate votes aside from these three—they should be thrown out of the party. Yes it will give the Senate to the Dems but so what. They have it already. Make it official while showing some background.
If every Repub votes one way and you vote another on such an important bill you no longer share common goals.

Hi folks.
Constituents matter when they make their voices heard and vote wisely. Regardless of party, we all voted for tax cuts, not a menu coercing pork and debt.
Call or email your Senators. Given their Washington lines may be down, they each have a local office in their home state that is simple to access. The road to hell is paved with good intentions. Make the call.
The vote for and against death by pork occurs Tuesday, so to count, the call needs to occur by Monday.
