Collins: I might vote against the final stimulus bill if it’s too porky
posted at 5:29 pm on February 7, 2009 by Allahpundit
The Freepers are buzzing about this so I figured you’d want to see the clip. Note: She doesn’t mean she might vote against the final Senate bill. That’s a done deal. She’s talking about the real final bill, the one that’ll come back from conference committee after the House and Senate huddle next week. If they start dumping money back into it that was cut from this one — which is possible — then, in theory, she’ll pull the plug. Anyone see that happening realistically, though, considering (a) she’s already shown she’s willing to tolerate a more expensive bill than Nancy Pelosi, and (b) she’s had her patriotism sanctified by the blessed hand of The One? Worth every penny of that trillion.
If you want to make your feelings known, here’s her contact information. Please be polite. She’ll ignore you either way, but at least your conscience will be clear.

This lady is a moron. She needs to be shunned by Republicans. Kick her sorry azz out of the caucus and let her sit with the Dems, in the open.
I would also like to see someone interview her and question her strongly about our quickly deteriorating monetary position, to expose what a friggin’ clueless idiot she is.
“Once again bloated with wasteful spending”? What the heck does she think it is, now. And let’s hear her answer the mechanisms that she sees this Porkulus Socialism bill employing to create jobs. People let these fools off without any tough questioning about the details of their lunacy.
I am absolutely incensed that these fools are allowed to skate on their stupidity and disingenuous arguments.
Another “patriot” for the enemies of America.

How do these people get elected and re-elected? No wonder this country is screwed when the only choices we have to vote vote are people like these.

Well, when you are following the Crap Sandwich diet, Crap Sandwich Lite ($800 billion) is certainly better than full fat Crap Sandwich ($900 billion). I think the Lite version is lower in carbs.

Who cares about the FINAL bill? If this thing gets cloture, the dems in conference will do whatever the heck they want – anything under a trillion would be a (pleasant?) surprise. Cloture is the only vote that matters and she’s already Crossed her Rubicon on that one.

Her “qualification” is that she worked for Maine Senator Bill Cohen for 12 years. Oh, and she also thought that Bill Clinton was above the law.

That we tried, or for what comes later? Actually, it’ll work for both for me.
JiangxiDad on February 7, 2009 at 5:55 PM
I posted yesterday about how the media will start referring to this as a bipartisan deal. Well, the Washington Post headline:
Over the next year or two look for the use of the “bipartisan” label to increase in direct proportion to the unpopularity of this bill as it fails to deliver.
Of course, if it does happen to work (which it won’t) it will always be called the Obama stimulus bill.
We are really defining down “bipartisan” here when 3 liberal Republicans get bought off and now we call it bipartisan.
I guess the 2004 Republican Convention was a bipartisan affair because Zell Miller spoke. And the 2008 Republican Convention must have been a real bipartisan, bringing people together, reaching across the aisle event because Joe Liebermann was there.
JohnInCA on February 7, 2009 at 5:56 PM

2. How much money is NOW in stimulus bill for the state of Maine and her pet projects now that she supports the stimulus bill?
albill on February 7, 2009 at 6:07 PM
From Wikipedia (Ok, consider the source, but still..)
I don’t think this qualifies as a budget bill. I’ts an appropriation, but not the annual budget. Don’t understand the privileged bit, but apparently there is some possibility of a filibuster.
I bet Harry fiddles the numbers so its looks as if it comes in at $827 bilion (the Senate’s number), and Collins falls for it as not having been increased.
Wethal on February 7, 2009 at 6:08 PM

It is precisely because RINOS like this exist that I no longer donate to the congressional election committees. I now pick my candidates to support individually. I do NOT want my money to support Specter when he runs again in 2010. You know the national committee will not help his primary opponent. I will.
karenhasfreedom on February 7, 2009 at 6:35 PM
Look, there’s a lot of talk, but only a few real remedies.
Specter’s beatable, and if anyone can replace him, it’s going to be Toomey, especially in a Republican year.
Collins just got re-elected and Snowe’s got a 75% approval rating in heavily Democratic Maine. They aren’t going anywhere. The only hope is either to elect enough
Republicansconservatives so we’ll never have to depend on the Maine sisters again, or to elect a ton of conservative senators and expel these quislings from the caucus. Let the Dems have ‘em.KingGold on February 7, 2009 at 6:36 PM

All I can say is “Thank You” to everyone for taking time out of your busy days to express your displeasure with our dem wanna-be senators. Don’t let up, and make sure the GOP leadership hears it too, they need to step up too.
A little bit about this state in case you’re interested:
40 years of liberal rule and over-the-top out-of-control environmental wackos have decimated the economy in this state. And its not getting better.
Maine is slowly turning into a retirement community and national park. Our greatest Export is our kids, leaving in droves to go find work.
The jobs here have been drying up big time over the last 20 years. Our paper manufacturing companies have been destroyed due to high operating costs (electricity is 13cents / kwh, nationally it’s 7cents), unions, the highest taxes, and free trade agreements. They shut down Maine Yankee in 1997.
Maine has 2 fortune 1000 companies, Hannaford and Unum Provident. New businesses don’t come here, they get taxed to death in a business unfriendly climate. Every year we have massive cost overruns from DHS and millions of taxpayer dollars dissappear into thin air.
We have had a string of the most ineffective governers you can imagine. On every ballot, they introduce bond issues and they always pass, and we are always in debt.
Maybe I should move to a red state before they close this state down.

Fraid not… Just wounded. The election was rigged by the press, skewed by the war in Iraq, lost by the Maverick, and insured by the downward trend in housing prices, and the sudden collapse of banking and the stock markets… etc.

The loss was much less about the Republican party than about all these things, and Conservative Values are the long and short answer. So let’s get the Repubs to pick up on that because it is our best hope.

The one who is really weak is Specter. He is up in 2010, and Rick Santorum hsd an article in the Inquirer a few weeks ago how Specter could have a primary challenger.
Toomey was only one of several names. Don’t know the others, but they were in state elective posts. Last time Santorum and Bush saved Specter’s butt. Neither will go to bat for him this time. Specter didn’t do squat for Santorum in 2006. And Bush will probably not get involved in a primary fight, assuming he’d have much influence out of office, anyway.

These RINO Republicans are always proclaiming themselves to be “fiscal conservatives, but socially liberal.”
How is a Generational theft bill of this magnitude even remotely considered to be fiscally conservative?
RINO Republicans are just Democrats.
ColtsFan on February 7, 2009 at 6:53 PM
Arkansas, unfortunately, is one of those quirky states. They’ll always vote Republican in presidential elections (Bill Clinton notwithstanding) but downticket Republicans always end up sludge creek. “Red state” is only partially true when it comes to Arkansas. I suspect that Blanche Lincoln is no more or less wobbly than the other conservative Democrats.
KingGold on February 7, 2009 at 6:54 PM
It’s not. Jonah Goldberg pointed this out. If one is socially liberal, one ends up supporting big government programs. And that can’t be done as a fiscal conservative.
They don’t care. Their pensions are secure. They think they’ll be gone or retired when this hits. If it hits with high inflation or a continuing recession by 2010 or 2012, then they’ll be accountable. But they’re gambling with a trillion dollars that somehow the economy will get better, stimulus or no.
Wethal on February 7, 2009 at 6:57 PM

GOP ought to pump some money into Pa. in 2010. We’ve got a governor’s election coming up and a very strong candidate likely in Tom Corbett, who bucked the D trend and won re-election as Attorney General in ’08.
The only thing that scares me is Obambi talking Fat Eddie Rendell into running for Senate.

clearbluesky on February 7, 2009 at 6:59 PM
Stupid is as stupid does. And these Senators are stupid fools. Why do they think people work for a party, so a couple of idiots can sell us out?
Payoffs for votes — Isn’t that how it works in Chicago?
So where is our time-line on fixing the economy? Don’t we deserve as much for a trillion tax dollars invested? After the first couple, I guess it doesn’t matter — They are so smart right?
Did you miss the EO only union thugs can work on government contratcs. How un-American.

I don’t know if Eddie would do that. He’a always been in the exectuive branch (DA, mayor, goveronor). Kind of like Jeb Bush, who turned down a Senate run.
I like Corbett, and think he’s the best. However, Santorum has been talking about running for governor, too. I hope they work it out with out a primary fight. Corbett would be the natural “move up to higher office” candidate.
