So I happen to turn on CSPAN and hear a Democrat blowhard tell me how the prisoners at Gitmo were tortured with incessant rap music, crappy food, and no air conditioning.

To this day, I’m still waiting for a check from the University of Illinois concerning my two months of ‘torture.’

You don’t think that if they were moved to say, San Diego that we would not have to increase security to keep sunny SD from becoming a target for non-incarcerated terrorists?

Myself, no, I don’t. Of course, I’m not a liberal and I don’t have a problem with Gitmo. But the notion that it’s dangerous to have bad guys locked up near you is just silly fear-mongering. We have prisons all around our community, and everybody here sleeps just fine at night, and we have for years.

The terrorists aren’t going to attempt a Jean-Claude Van Damme-style rescue of their compatriots at Ft. Leavenworth. That’s just air-headed nonsense. By all means, leave Gitmo open; it’s as good as any place. But the original reason for holding the bad guys overseas — the belief that our laws didn’t apply — has been undermined by the courts. Security was never an overriding consideration.

Replace it with a bulldozed trench and a machine gun.

A CBS Poll shows that 48% of Americans would rather keep Gitmo OPEN vs only 40% who say it should be closed.

A Rasmussen Poll from late last year showed 49% in favor of Gitmo and ONLY 32% in favor of shutting GITMO down!

This is the height of folly. No, actually, it is pure unadulterated stupidity…just plain stupid. Matters of law, set by Acts of Congress and precedent, upheld by the USSC, and made part and parcel to international treaty (i.e., Geneva III)…and the decision is going to come down to polling?

Most, if not all, of the idiots “polled” on the issue have NO idea at all as to matters of Law or the Constitution, nor USSC decisions (USSC certiorari in Johnson, Secretary of Defense, et. al. v. Eisentrager, Alias Ehrhardt, [1950] establishing a nonresident enemy alien has no access to our courts in wartime, as one example) nor the implications in international law and treaty obligations as regards the detainees, terrorists, bandits,. brigands, and sabateurs.

Polls based on feelings…one hell of a way to run a government and a legal system.

Further, very few Americans are aware of “landed immigrant” status, to wit, any foreigner who sets foot on American soil is granted full access to US law and the judicial system as would any American citizen or legal resident alien. Why do you think the Coast Guard and navy spent so many years trying to keep Haitian “refugees” off the beaches and bridge pilings in the Florida Keys? The moment they set foot on the beach or jumped on a bridge piling, bingo…full access to the US system and all the benefits.

But, we gotta listen to polls, right, the people who respond to the late-night phone calls or being approached on the street by pollsters know more than everybody else about everything, so let’s let the polls decide all of our issues…and forget about the Constitution, and the legal system, the laws of land warfare, the Geneva Conventions, and all that stuff. Who cars about all of that established law and precedent anyway. We got to believe in Hope and Change…and rule by feelings…

I had not yet heard the theory that other terrorists would attempt a massive plot to free their incarcerated comrades. Good point. After their 30 failed assaults to spring their buddies from Gitmo, clearly the other terrorists are just lying in wait to strike once everyone has been transferred stateside. Because its a lot easier to sneak an armed force of terrorists into America than Cuba.

The fact that this kind of massive prison rescue mission is completely unrealistic is a minor detail.

Most prisons in the United States are not
1) On islands
2) On ultra secure sections of those islands
3) Surrounded by land mines

Oh, and I guess the other basic fact you’re missing is that any prison that houses these creatures is a target for jihadists.
