This is the only message the politicians understand. First you can try to get the party to run a new conservative candidate. If they don’t then you have to work to defeat the republican during an election. It may come down to electing a 1 term democrat until the republicans learn we want conservative candidates not liberal ones. We can find liberals under another pary on the ballot. That is what happened to John McCain this past year. Did you notice how old and tired John is looking lately? I saw him on CSPAN.

Also, let us not delude ourselves – the Enron CEO spent a decade lobbying the Bush’es so that they could relax power distribution related relugations, which eventually allowed Enron to be a viable business.

Baloney. Enron didn’t begin their shady accounting until the mid-to-late ’90s. Check your watch – Clinton was President then. W busted and prosecuted the Enron gang.

Enron had been a “viable” and very profitable company for years, selling actual energy. Their online trading activity came later in the ’90s, and was also very successful. It was only under CFO Andrew Fastow and COO Jeff Skilling, who convinced the audit firm that they didn’t need to actually hold an asset to count its value on their balance sheet under “mark to market” accounting, that the fraudulent scheme bloomed.

Enron and their audit firm, Arthur Anderson, broke the existing laws. You can’t blame “deregulation” for that.

While on the subject, compare the total losses suffered by all parties in the Enron collapse to those suffered due to CRA and the Dodd/Frank-imposed policies of Freddie and Fannie. It’s like spare change.

But, hey, there have been multiple such moments and this is only his first couple of weeks.

Here’s the deal – if conservative policies were all so great for the market, then why is Wall Street in this bad a shape right now?

OK, we are going in circles here. So, you are saying the government allowed Enron to happen. How? By allowing power supply to its citizens be a private action instead of a government controlled one. So, to prevent this, government should *not* allow certain actions to be undertaken by private entities, which equals more government, which is exactly what you don’t want. Circularity of logic, if there ever was one.

Look, I am not bashing free market here – I am only saying a proper control of the market is needed to ensure that people do not lose faith in it. No extreme has ever helped.
