Video: The three-point kid
posted at 6:52 pm on February 5, 2009 by Allahpundit
The feelgood clip of the day, to cleanse the palate as we prepare to choke down $800 billion in pork. I’ve seen this movie before but it never gets old. Especially the ending.

Blowback

Good for him! Just because you have a disablity doesn’t mean you can’t play!

Amazing, considering liberals would have wanted him aborted…I mean what use is he?
God bless him and his family…

You’re right, Allah. It never gets old. Good for him!

That’s beautiful. Reminds me of the autistic kid from Rochester a few years ago. Finally got a chance to play and start raining threes from all over the place.

Gee thanks Allah, SWMBO just saw me cry.
Live is even better than art.

Jason McElwain, that’s his name.
He was on one of those Gatorade commercials during the Super Bowl

Palate thoroughly cleansed………….
……….. Thanks Allah.

Equally awesome? The kid who gave up his spot for Patrick.
Oh, and Susan Collins is opposing the stimulus bill in its present form, she said on Fox. She wants a big bill but this one is too big, apparently.
amerpundit on February 5, 2009 at 7:04 PM
kudos to Patrick AND the young gentleman that gave up his place for Patrick.
Kudos to the fans.

Something tells me the Kos Kids will be demanding a paternity test after watching this video.
RightWinged on February 5, 2009 at 7:06 PM
I second that!
Johan Klaus on February 5, 2009 at 7:06 PM
Oops. You got that in on me while I was watching the vid.
davidk on February 5, 2009 at 7:06 PM
Notice the newscaster doesn’t once actually mention his disability.
I’ve had this clip on my favorites list for a long, long time. Every time I read something about how the world is falling apart, about how society is crumbling, about how there is no hope for our nation’s youth …
I pull up this clip and watch it again. And I’m not watching Patrick, or even his family. Instead, I watch the faces of his teammates, the coaches, and mostly the other kids in the stands.
And what I see is truth. And good. And hope.

Good for the Down Easters. They’ve been hitting the phones.

Oh yeah, why would anyone want to be “Burdened” with such a problem child?
Wonderful story, and as said before, the young man who rode the pine so that Patrick could play? Someone I would love my 18 y/o daughter to get to know.
Damn dust in my eyes….
Markvike on February 5, 2009 at 7:36 PM
Just lovely, what a wonderful example of good people.
darcee on February 5, 2009 at 7:37 PM
That was beautiful. Kudos to the kid that gave up his spot to let Patrick play… his parents raised him right.
And I’m on my third tissue here.
Anna on February 5, 2009 at 7:40 PM
How long is that other team going to hafta wait for the traditional “Sorry We Won” apology?
That celebrating has got to be causing some esteem issues…

He may have had only 6 points in his career, but how many basketball players end their senior year with a three-point percentage of 100%? Eat that, LeBron James!
Glenn Jericho on February 5, 2009 at 7:50 PM
The real American spirit was shown in that video.
docdave on February 5, 2009 at 7:59 PM
Truly a feel good moment.
Life outside the beltway is where you’ll find the real America.
Kudos Patrick, Mom & Dad too. All unsung heroes.
fogw on February 5, 2009 at 8:18 PM
This kid has something that none of the T.O.’s of the world will never have. He has people respecting him for his hard work and dedication enough to make him the hero for a night.
blink on February 5, 2009 at 8:41 PM
There’s obviously something wrong with him. He sunk his basket and then went back to play on defense without pounding his chest and doing the ‘Look at me’ antics of the pro’s.
God bless him and his family.
JohnO on February 5, 2009 at 8:49 PM
That brought me to tears. What a wonderful story! Thank God he was born to good, honest, upstanding people who love him.

Patrick is awesome. Hey Sponge Bob’s sidekick is a Patrick too.
sonnyspats1 on February 5, 2009 at 10:34 PM
I say we get him a Senate seat.
I’m sure he’d be better than 90% of the human excrement that pollute the Capitol right now.
roninacreage on February 5, 2009 at 10:35 PM
Patrick scored more points in one game than I scored my entire high school basketball career. God bless you, Patrick, and your teammates who shared the spotlight with you. Helluva game son.
Press on.

Awesome!!!!
Had a simaler situation playing baseball in HS. Kid caught the winning out in right field. The joy it brought him and the whole team was priceless.

…and Palin was shamed by the MSM for not having aborted her son born with down syndrome. These are special, loving children that the world benefits from there lives and testimony.
jbh45 on February 6, 2009 at 8:59 AM
I can’t wait to see the pictures of Trig Palin after he bags his first moose.
Wait to go, Patrick!
Dr.Cwac.Cwac on February 6, 2009 at 9:11 AM
Thanks Hot Air, a touch of class and reality when needed.
More thanks to Patrick giving it his all and his parents for sharing him with Grilley H.S. and U.S.
A great inspiration for politicians. We can overcome anything when we have the desire and support of their constituents. Now, get with your constituents and determine what their needs are and focus on those needs. Stop following a self proclaimed ‘socialist’ who want the people to serve the government.

Jeez Aquaviva, I just followed that link and treated myself to the comments there. What a bunch of revolting fascists, Dr.Mengele would have felt right at home at Wankette’s blog.

Thanks for that video. I have a sister with Down Syndrome, so I am sitting here at work with big tears in my eyes. From what I saw in the video, my sister is more severely mentally disabled than this young man, so she never had a shining moment like this on the basketball court or anything like that. However, she went to school with the “normal” kids, and it is my belief that she enriched her classmates lives as much or more than they did hers. The comment regarding individuals with Down Syndrome are angels…it seems like it in my family at least!

This is really a great story about team building and how anyone can contribute if you give them a chance.
Props to Gatorade for featuring Jason in their Super Bowl commercial. My SB party was talking about Jason and we watched the ESPN report after the game since some guests didn’t know the back story.

Tears. Especially after reading and talking about the infanticide going on from Ed’s post. To think that progressives, liberals and others would have this child aborted… it makes my morning a heck of a lot better. Thanks Allah!
