Report: Palin to speak, Limbaugh to keynote at CPAC

posted at 5:14 pm on February 5, 2009 by Allahpundit

Good lord. It’s grassroots Woodstock.

The annual CPAC convention of conservatives is expected to be a sellout because two huge names are coming to deliver red-meat speeches: Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin. We’ve got the whole list for you below. Limbaugh will play clean-up, speaking last on Saturday February, and organizers expect him to expand on fight with Obamacans over his recent comment: “I want him to fail.”

The schedule at the link says only that they’ve been invited, not that they’ve confirmed, but the fact that each has been given a specific time slot — Palin speaks in the showcase 4:30 slot on Thursday, the first day — presumably means they’re booked. Interestingly, the 4:30 slot on Friday goes to Ron Paul, proof positive that the GOP’s impressed with the ardor of the rEVOLution and eager to bring them and their money back into the fold.

The boss will be there as part of a Saturday afternoon panel on media in the age of Obama. Coulter makes her return to CPAC the same day, having been passed over last year in light of l’affaire Edwards the year before. Feel free to use the comments to guess what she’ll say this time to mar the whole event. Exit question: Doesn’t giving Rush the keynote amount to an admission that he is, in fact, the head of the party?

Update: The boss e-mails to say she’s not sure she’ll make the panel on Saturday. Ed will be on Blogger’s Row, though, so swing by and say hi if you’re there.

Update (Ed): I’ll be there all three days, and will be doing lots of interviews, or so I hope.  Can I get the biggest names to sit down with me?  We shall see …..

Blowback

If not via Skype (I dunno if they can broadcast, Oprah uses that stuff now to NOT pay ppl to come to her show) there’s that ad I listen to gotomeeting.com that could work.

I am gonna write to them to advocate for a video conference, with a reasonable fee for those who can’t fly or drive to it.

“Don’t come to table with the same tired arguments and worn ideas that helped create this crisis,” said Obama. “We’re not going to get relief by turning back to the very same policies that in eight short years doubled the national debt and threw our economy into a tailspin.”

getalife on February 6, 2009 at 9:13 AM

With all due respect, Carter and Clinton managed to throw our economy into a tailspin, quite nicely. Carter II isn’t the answer, either. As for the national debt, carping about government spending while crafting a pork-fest the likes of which mankind has never seen doesn’t seem to make a lot of sense. Once you get past the hype, Obama personifies “the same tired arguments and worn ideas that helped create this crisis.”

What time does Sullivan and Brooks speak?

artist on February 6, 2009 at 9:58 AM

My comments are highlighted

Here are 10 suggestions for Sarah to speak on:

1)The proper role of government in fostering economic growth, supporting free enterprise and lower taxes by arguing the case for supply-side economics and the economic philosophy of Milton Friedman.

lets say corporate taxes are reduced to zero. Thats should cause a business boom and create jobs. Governement at all levels still has a budget and has to tax to pay for it. Who do they tax?.

2)Why America first became an exceptional nation and the affirmation that America can still be an exceptional nation in the 21st c

She should speak about liberty and opportunity?

3)Assert her defense of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights

Rather than her defending them I’d like her to support both.

4)the role of the President to defend its people from terrorists who want to kill us

It’s in the constitution. No need to look further.

5)Why conservatism is better than liberalism or socialism

If she doesn’t do this she doesn’t belong in our party.

6)The role of the MSM in marginalizing Rush Limbaugh, herself and others and what the GOP must do to combat this evil and in turn get the truth of their message out to the public

The GOP is a much more closed group. We preach to each other and not to the other non GOP groups. Rush speaks to everyone. He probably does more to change the minds of liberals than we do combined. We are apathetic the liberals are not. That is why the MSM has the influence it has. Get our message out to everyone. Do it one on one. Do it in the news. Do it on TV and radio. Take every opportunity you can to get our message out there.

7)Conservatism as its relates to women

How about as it relates to both genders and ethnic groups. The Democrats had a woman VP candidate decades before we did. We just caught up.

8)America as a sovereign nation and not owing their loyalty to the ‘global community’

This is a trend that lives in both parties. I hope she does try to clean it up.
9)The ridiculous energy policy of the Obama administration and what a proper energy policy for America should be

Yep all republicans need to get on this bandwagon.

10)Emphasize her libertarian credentials and her belief in individual freedom to pursue one’s own happiness the way one sees fit

I’m not sure she feels that way. If she did she’d be a libertarian.

technopeasant on February 6, 2009 at 8:11 AM

Again, This is a closed GOP group. She needs to get our message out to a broader group of people as we all should be doing..

Limbaugh is awarded the CPAC Constitution Preservation Award, to culminate his speech and the convention.

Pajamas Media TV is on the CPAC menu.

There is a demand. To ignore the demand its access would be self defeating. Who will distribute the supply of CPAC news? Obviously the rights belong to CPAC; so CPAC “sold” rights to PJTV.

What of the PJ Media fiasco going on, tossing its members under the bus (Atlas Shrugged)? Is this how PJTV overcomes self inflicted death throws?

maverick muse on February 6, 2009 at 10:31 AM

Thus does CPAC 2009 become the first political event of any kind that I wish to attend in my 50 years on this earth.

Coulter, Palin, The Great One, Gaffney, Cantor, Bolton, Pence, Shadegg, Bachmann, Ed*, maybe even Michelle (sigh) Malkin.

I think I need to bring my daughters to Washington!

Get a life. And while you’re shopping for one, look for these features:

- the life you’re looking for should come with a functioning brain, so that you can compare and contrast the things you hear from the DNC to the reality that you experience (thus making you eligible to become a conservative);

- it should come with the ability to read, so that you can study some history and gain wisdom from the classic thinkers (no, not Karl Marx) who will admonish you to understand history so that you are not doomed to repeat it helplessly.

- it should come with the ability to learn, as above, so that you would understand that our businesses and financial markets work not based on what happened last year, but on what the business leaders and financial analysts expect to happen this year. Then you could see the current business climate for what it is – a report card on the life and times of Barack Obama and the leftist Democrats in the House, and what our expectations for the economy should be based on their policies and their actions. Grade: D-

Let’s look at facts:

Two weeks ago this Pork-u-lous bill was a slam dunk, it was golden… Rush, Sean, Mark and others started putting the TRUTH out for the American people to see in the light of day. Rush KILLED this crap sandwich, he handed it to Obamby and hung it around the necks of LIBERALS. Ahhal and others hate it that Rush can do what they can only dream of… Speaking to America, informing America and letting the voices of the unrepresented be heard LOUDD AND CLEAR… Ahhal and many here at HA can’t stand Rush because he is, like me, unashamed of being a Reagan Conservative, having American Pride. He is powerful because he speaks from his CONVICTIONS, not from his desire to be popular or liked or watered downd like some we can’t mention here because he has thin skin and a dislike for anything Palin, Rush, God or true Conservative. Face facts, this bill is on life support because Rush and others told the truth about what garbage it is and the American people have responded. Now critics of Rush want to diminish what he has done… Too bad HA and other blogs did not do the same for the movment, but instead followed the coat tails of El-Rushbo…

I heard that Judge Napolitano will be speaking. I’d like to meet him and thank him for writing “A Nation of Sheep”. It’s quite a good book.

Romney, Huckabee, and Paul will be there – no McCain. Interesting.

McCain has to do penance for his sins.

Maybe Palin’s daughter’s baby daddy’s mother can cook up some good stuff for Rush’s PAIN.

Vernon Hardapple on February 6, 2009 at 12:57 PM

Maybe he has some coke you could bring back for Barry.

CPAC is the gathering where hecklers will not tell Rush to ‘Get Over It’. (Those are the private invitation only gatherings for supporters of the powers who set up the last primary and the people like Rush they hope to influence)

CPAC is the grass roots getting their voice. The other gatherings (of no name since they are private) are the voices currently holding the top of the mountain revealing their muscle and making deals

To a certain degree, CPAC is like putting out a salt lick to see how numerous the deer are in hunting season. However, they misunderestimated the deer in the last election and paid a price

I want to attend CPAC very very much but as usual it does not look possible so I gladly await the reports

Vernon Hardapple on February 6, 2009 at 12:57 PM

Okay, let’s start a list.

Maybe Ted Kennedy can bar tend…
Maybe Pat Kennedy can sub for him when Ted gets tired (you know wink, wink, hic)…
Maybe Bobby Kennedy Jr can “cook up” something to “inject” into the conversation…

I invite everyone to add to the liberal abuse hypocrite list.

Maybe Laura Bush can drive… (you know, wink, wink)

Vernon Hardapple on February 6, 2009 at 3:26 PM

Well, that’s true but didn’t involve alcohol or drugs.

Now Ted Kennedy as the bar tender and designated driver?

Or Patrick Kennedy as the bar tender and designated driver?

Bwahahah

Vern, you’re too easy.

hawkdriver on February 6, 2009 at 6:06 PM

Obomba told them not to listen to Rush and now here they go listening. He will be sooooo mad!

Great fr–ging post right2bright. In fact I don’t know whether to feel more guilty about not quoting it again inline, or taking up the space for a ‘mega-ditto’. :)

IMHO Rush does have the ability to subtly influence directions, tactics, and outcomes of the cultural dialogue, but he doesn’t act as a “fuehrer”, IMO his show is more a clearinghouse of ideas percolating in all of our collective heads.

I used to buy into the idea that he was dangerous, that he was pulling a scam, etc., primarily because that’s what I was told to believe (or, in the case of NPR and Public TV, merely suggested or implied, in myriad ways).

Now I know better. The caveat of “this is not a hard news source” still applies, so I still fact-check from time to time, but no more so than with anyone else. Generally speaking any factual error is quickly identified and corrected anyhow (because there are so many da– listeners calling in!) Occasionally there’s a set of ‘nuanced’ counterpoints on an issue that apply, and I try not to forget those either, but then again Rush is not claiming to be objective like so many in the ‘straight’ press try to do, so there!

A guy calling himself Allahpundit has more to worry about than a bunch of Internet badasses who know how to hurl insults better than hurling rock–or forming coherent rebuttal arguments.
