Video: Planned Parenthood covers up statutory rape … again

posted at 12:50 pm on February 3, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

The Mona Lisa Project exposed two Indiana abortion clinics last year that covered up reportable felonies and illegally told underage minors to cross state lines for their abortions. At the time, Lila Rose told us that more Planned Parenthood violations would come to light from her undercover work last summer. Today, another shoe drops, but this time in Tucson, where a nurse advises what she thinks is a 15-year-old patient to keep an abusive relationship from the court:

As their press release explains, this violates Arizona law, in which sexual relations between an adult and a minor less than 16 years of age is a felony and must be reported by medical personnel.  Not only does the nurse not explain this to the girl, she tells both the patient and her friend to mislead the court when applying for a judicial bypass in order to keep her parents equally in the dark about both the abortion and the abuse.  That violates the Arizona statute, and also might qualify as a conspiracy to obstruct justice just on the basis of this video alone.

Nor is this the first time that Planned Parenthood has done this in Arizona:

In 2002, an Arizona judge found the abortion provider negligent for failing to report the sexual abuse of a 13-year-old girl by her 23-year-old foster brother, who brought her to a Phoenix-area clinic for an abortion in 1998. After Planned Parenthood kept silent about the abuse, the sexual relationship continued and led to a second abortion six months later.

In Indiana, the Attorney General began criminal investigations into the practices of Planned Parenthood after the Mona Lisa Project published their two films.  Will Arizona follow suit?  Given that AG Terry Goddard will deliver the keynote address today at a Planned Parenthood event, it seems doubtful — unless Arizonans demand it.  Contact them politely and ask them whether Goddard’s appearance at a PP event is appropriate under these circumstances, and ask them to start at investigation immediately into their practices.

Why doesn’t a US Attorney take the combined evidence of these crimes and prosecute PP under RICO?

Why do our tax dollars continue to go to a crime syndicate?

a competent d.o.j. would prosecute them under rico and a host of other statutes …

Considering they murder unborn children without flinching it is not that much of a stretch to find they might not be ethically upstanding.

Though you’d think they’d at least try to protect a child…oh wait, what am I thinking… (sorry, channeling Amtrak Joe for a second there…)

How much evidence do we need to not only stop funding this monstrosity, but to start putting people behind bars?

Any who question the reality of evil in the world need look no further than PP. God bless Lila Rose and those working with her. They are doing such good and needed work.

One did, Phil Kline of Kansas. PP and Democrat groups attacked him like no other, a Republican switched parties to become a Democrat and ousted him from office. Kline was appointed to the vacated job of that turncoat, continued the prosecution as a county DA and was attacked again.

He lost his primary to another Republican and is now completely out of office.

Because WE continue to elect criminals to positions of authority.

cs89 on February 3, 2009 at 1:27 PM

Yes, as long as you have the origional witnesses to the acts there as well… ie.. the folks who made the video.

Video then is just further proof of the testimony of the accuser (witness).

Sure, Ed.

Just as soon as I send Roger Michael Cardinal Mahony of Los Angeles an email asking him why the U.S. attorney in Los Angeles has launched a federal grand jury investigation into his response to the molestation of children by priests in the Los Angeles Archdiocese.

Overseas abortion funding least popular decision by Obama

UPDATE, 10:30a: The Republican National Coalition for Life has listed specific ways for pro-lifers to apply pressure in opposition to Obama’s repeal of the Mexico City Policy, which received a 65% disapproval rating in the Gallup poll below:

Please contact your Member of Congress and U.S. Senators – Tell them:

# You want them to codify the Mexico City policy.

# You want them to deny taxpayer funds to international organizations and agencies that promote or perform abortions overseas so that it will not have to be reconsidered each year during the appropriations process.

# You do not want to be forced into complicity with abortions through your tax dollars!

Even a 16 year old?

MarkTheGreat on February 3, 2009 at 2:11 PM

Planned Parenthood has nothing to fear from Ogabe’s DOJ. Perhaps a minor show trial with some low level patsy punished and a small fine. That will be more than covered by continuing increases in tax dollars going to them.
Cynical: yes. Arguable: probably not.

SKYFOX on February 3, 2009 at 2:29 PM

Even a 16 year old?

MarkTheGreat on February 3, 2009 at 2:11 PM

Yup. One year older than 15, two older than 14, doesn’t make them too much wiser. That’s why we set the age of majority so high.

The age of majority seems to be deliberately made lower (no lower bound) for pregnant minors — and I’d guess from my sister’s experience (pregged at 15 by a 24-year old) that they are victims of bottom fishers.

I think PP is deliberately complicit in this. They believe in reproductive choice for 9-year olds.

unclesmrgol on February 3, 2009 at 2:37 PM

What is also troubling about these videos is that the PP staffer never asked the 15 year old why her parents shouldn’t know. Are they going to beat the crap out of her for getting pregnant? Are they going to bring charges against the 27 year old? Or is she just simply embarrassed?

I think the PP employee should have established this before having the girl seek a judicial bypass.

“So this is what they use to open, um, you know, the vagina. You know I guess it’s like, like I said.”

Did Barry and Princess Caroline open up a school of Eloquent Patient Counseling?

heavenhelpus on February 3, 2009 at 3:15 PM

If Hot Air knows the identities of these men, they must report it. They seem to be in intimate communication with these poor young girls. This is not just unethical, it is criminal to use young girls and their pedophile victimizers for reporting.

The Ugly American on February 3, 2009 at 4:19 PM

heavenhelpus on February 3, 2009 at 2:58 PM

They don’t ask because they really don’t think a minor should have to get their parent’s consent to have an abortion.

A friend of mine (that is actually one of the most pro-life people I know) is a reformed liberal. In the early days of her marriage, she had an unplanned pregnancy. She and her husband talked it over and decided that an abortion was the best option. At the time, they both bought into the whole, “It’s just a parasite” garbage that libs were big on in the 70s.

My friend was in the office filling out all the paperwork. One of the papers was a form that the husband of a married woman had to sign acknowledging that he was o.k. with his child being aborted. When they got to that form, the PP woman looked at my friend and said, “I’m gonna go get some water. That form needs a signature on it by the time I get back. We don’t need to see who signs it.”

There is no rule that can be made to limit abortions or to help protect minors from being railroaded into major decisions by adults that the people at PP won’t happily subvert and work around.

JadeNYU on February 3, 2009 at 5:10 PM

Observation on February 3, 2009 at 3:43 PM

The girls in the video aren’t actually minors. The ’15-year-old’ is actually a student at UCLA. They’re part of a group that goes under cover claiming to be minors to help expose the legal violations that are happening at abortion clinics across the country.

JadeNYU on February 3, 2009 at 5:15 PM

As a Tucson resident, I called Goddard’s office to inquire. First, I got the distinct impression that their phones have just about melted down. I couldn’t even get through to the main office in Phoenix, but instead talked with someone in charge of the AG’s scheduling here in Tucson. While the status of any investigations would actually be confidential at this time, and they could not comment one way or the other as to whether or not this would, indeed, lead to a criminal investigation of PP, the rep with whom I spoke did try to assure me that the AG was impartial, and would consider the case upon its merits. She denied that he had talked directly with Planned Parenthood, however the press release here certainly tells a different story. My most charitable explanation for the discrepancy would be that given that it was a consortium of progressive groups, that she failed to note PP’s presence, however the rep specifically referred to that as “erroneous information.” Not having been at the event, I’ll decline from further speculation. Nevertheless, the impression she gave me was that the AG’s speaking itinerary would in no way influence whether or not an investigation would be conducted into these allegations. As long as she was not simply feeding me a line, hopefully we can assume some action will be taken here.

Margaret Sanger Center?

The Ugly American on February 3, 2009 at 4:19 PM

Actually, this is kind of ironic, because while there’s no doubt that she was a birth-control crusader and even a proponent of eugenics, Mrs. Sanger did not approve of abortion.

Every video they put out is an extremely powerful indictment of PP and many of their practices.

I couldn’t get over the soundtrack and “he’s 27″ at the end… Some Hollywood movies with multimillion dollar budgets can’t do that with music and dialogue!

I’m hoping that there’s more videos to come as more evidence against PP. Whoever those brave women are, they deserve a Medal of Freedom!

Obstruction of justice?

No! Accessories to child rape!

Seriously, these people are helping child rapists to keep their activities secret so they can continue their abuses!

*I am assuming real minors have been advised to do the same as these “imposters”. Given the how well versed the people caught on these stings on how to tap dance around the issue, I don’t think its a stretch.

Even a 16 year old?

MarkTheGreat on February 3, 2009 at 2:11 PM

No. IIRC, it is generally not against the law for a 16yo to have consensual sexual contact with another 16yo. For example while Arizona defines all sexual contact with a minor as a crime, it provides the following defense:

“It is a defense to a prosecution pursuant to §§ 13-1405 [sexual conduct with a minor] … if the victim is fifteen, sixteen or seventeen years of age, the defendant is under nineteen years of age or attending high school and is no more than twenty-four months older than the victim and the conduct is consensual.”

Note that this does not apply to children under 15.

Two points. Using the phone for this purpose fulfills the federal mail fraud statute for federal jurisdiction. And receiving fed funds and violating state laws equals a false claims act violation (qui tam).

It does not matter that everything happened inside the state borders.
