Everyone’s got reboot fever these days — the makers of the Bond films, the Batman series, Star Trek, and socialism. Senator John Cornyn has replaced John Ensign as the chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, but he doesn’t really need a reboot. Cornyn already had a good platform on which to start:
Hello, I’m Senator John Cornyn, Chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
There’s no doubt that recent elections have shown the incredible impact that new media and social networking can have on the outcome of an election. I pledge to run an interactive, issues-driven committee both on and offline in which we can engage with one another; fostering discussion and encouraging ideas.
In the past month we’ve added more than 500 Facebook supporters, bolstered our e-campaign staff and launched a new Web site at http://www.REIDistributeWealth.com. Twenty-thousand supporters have already visited the site, and I encourage you to check it out.
Continuing the work of my predecessor, Senator John Ensign, the NRSC plans to run an active Twitter page, and I encourage you to follow us over there if you are not already. http://www.twitter.com/NRSC. To receive our Twitter updates directly to your phone simply text “Follow NRSC” to 40404. From there you will receive updated information on what the NRSC is doing straight to your phone.
Whether through blogs or social networks, I need your help to win as many Republican Senate seats as we can in 2010.
Please check back often to our website at http://www.NRSC.org as we will be making some significant changes in the weeks and months ahead. I look forward to communicating with you online this cycle.
Thank you and God Bless.
I worked closely with the NRSC and John Randall over the past year, and they actually did a good job in exploiting the latest technology. Their web ads worked very well and they had more investment than the RNC did in social networking. What the NRSC lacked last year was candidates and cash, thanks to the advent of Obama and some deep dissatisfaction with the performance of Republicans in Congress. In that sense, Cornyn may have a tougher job than the RNC in defending Republicans in a Congressional session that will probably see them succeed in blocking only occasional parts of the Democratic steamroller. Cornyn’s a tough man, though, and he’ll be up to it — and I think Cornyn will use his NRSC chair position to force more discipline on members in the 111th.
John Randall went to the NRCC this year, which really does need a reboot, and he’s the guy to help make that happen.

Until the RNC dumps all the C/RINOs in the primary’s and get solid conservatives to run, there will be no hope for the RNC.

To win more seats in 2010 they will have to keep their names off the stimulus bill, not add this ridiculous mortgage idea and keep their names off Daschle’s confirmation. Then there is fighting the upcoming climate change scam legislation and others down the line.
If… they don’t keep their names off bad legislation and let the democrats own these unpopular things -they will lose. Let the democrats own this stuff and Republicans will pick up seats.
Some senators can not be saved in their next election (McCain, Graham, and the other RINOS – they are toast). They best forget their “esteem club” mentality or they are leaving the club for good. We won’t give them our support.

GOP “leadership”- Enamored with the “new media” gimmicks and still missing the point. The D-E-A-D party.

He’s OK, except when he does something bewildering like vote to confirm Geitner(sp?).

Here’s an idea, run cantidates with a real platform and values. The problem isn’t with the new technology, twittering, youtube and internet. The problem is with the cantidates the RNC is running. I think most of them should be run out of office. What the RNC needs to do is run better people in the primaries and give the people real choices in our elected officals. An incumbent should never automatically get his parties endorsement. That how representatives get entrenched in the beltway mentality.
Just because someone is on incumbent doesn’t mean they deserve support. To many RINOs and other idiots need the old heave hoe.

Which organization changes the primary election rules? We need to have closed primaries in all states so we don’t get stuck with any McCains again.

Umm…men don’t “Twitter” John! They don’t text! They don’t use the camera on their damn phones! They make calls and in my case I surf the web with my IPHONE! That’s it. I don’t “TEXT” like a high-school girl! Sorry!
Now, get back to a conservative agenda and we shall all be much happier! Twitter that!

Cornyn seems to keep getting a pass! He voted for TARP and for Geitner. I want him called out on it. He talks big, but his voting record reflects a different side. He’s a RINO. Unfortunately, we voted him in for another 6 years!

He’s not getting a pass here in Texas, most of the people I talk to are upset with those votes, but then again he doesn’t come up for reelection for another 6 years.

Of course, this is 100% what they need to do. This “new media” is more powerful than even the old, though, it sure helps when you have the old in your pocket as well, right?
Regardless, it is really funny to see an older fellow talk about twitter.

I voted against this man Why? Shamnesty and when Hutchison comes up for re election I will Vote against her too. They ignored Texans and voted opposing public opinion more then once remember the first Bail Out Bill?
Meanwhile this is what Texans are reading the 50th Anniversary of The Day the Music Died.

Max Headroom got it wrong. It wasn’t TV that would control the course of the Government but YouTube and MySpace.

Message delivery technology is only as useful as THE MESSAGE.
Obama made the Dems look cool. Flashy. Image is everything. And a large number of voters in the 18/29 demographic voted for him not on the ISSUES, but on the MESSAGE. Most Obama supporters don’t understand the issues, nor do they want to. They voted for the guy that graced the cover of dozens of magazines, who read a great speech, and who was not George Bush.
We can’t have a grey-haired old man as our candidate in 2012. We need someone that can speak passionately and hold the attention of the generally mindless masses long enough to get their vote.

Add me to the group of Texans disappointed in this guy. He will have to do an awful lot to get himself out of the friggin’ hole he’s dug lately.
XWing5 on February 3, 2009 at 12:23 PM
Me too. Today when he called Daschle “Geithner on steroids” I was wondering “WTH! You voted FOR Geithner!”
