Disgrace: Gillibrand happily recants her old views on immigration

posted at 3:00 pm on February 3, 2009 by Allahpundit

We already knew this, but knowing it is one thing and watching her effusively grovel about how much she’s learned in the past week from talking to “community leaders” about the human toll is another thing entirely. Besides, after talking her up last week, I deserve to be humiliated in a proper post. Rarely will you see a politician eat shinola this eagerly, particularly since the logic of her argument is that she was an ill-informed imbecile when she was casting votes on this very important subject during her time in the House. Was that also true of her pro-gun, anti-bailout positions? I’ve got a crazy hunch we’re going to find out that it was. Wherever you are, Caroline, I’m sorry.

Heather MacDonald laid into her yesterday at the Corner for deciding that one’s policies — including defense of the rule of law — are tenable to the extent one’s constituents support them. I’m curious how far that principle extends. According to the new Fox News poll, 50 percent of Americans want the stimulus to focus more on tax cuts versus just 29 percent who want more spending. By Gillibrand’s logic, shouldn’t The One be taking a hard right? Click the image to watch.

much she’s learned in the past week from talking to “community leaders organizers

There ya go.

The one thing we all need to learn from the reign of Osama Obama is that nothing we see or hear is to be trusted. Everything is a lie.

The past two weeks seem like 10 years. We’re doomed.

MrScribbler on February 3, 2009 at 3:04 PM

What a disgraceful, unprincipled flip-flopper. Keeping in mind that she had those original conservative views while representing a Republican district. She may’ve been anti-gun and pro-amnesty all along, just flipping to stay in her seat.

amerpundit on February 3, 2009 at 3:04 PM

She has a ‘d’ after her name. Therefore, she has no accountability, her positions can change at will with no argument allowed, and she doesn’t even have to pay her taxes.

Ultimately, it doesn’t matter. The goal should be to eliminate all liberals from power, as they are all corruptible, apparently.

Vashta.Nerada on February 3, 2009 at 3:04 PM

At least there’s still a good chance her seat in the House may go to a Republican.

Bill Scrunty on February 3, 2009 at 3:05 PM

Meh, she’s still to the right of McCain and his lap dog Graham.

cadams on February 3, 2009 at 3:05 PM

She reminds me so much of my former Senator. When he was senator of this very red state, he was pro-life, pro-tobacco, pro-guns…when he became VPOTUS, he did a complete left turn.

I am, of course, talking about Algore.

ladyingray on February 3, 2009 at 3:05 PM

Lots of issues she doesn’t know laot about, eh…come to Texas sweetie…we’ll learn ya right quick about the illegal vermin invading our republic.

MDWNJ on February 3, 2009 at 3:07 PM

A wise man changes his mind, a fool never does. Luckily, she is able to see all sides of an issue and form her opinions accordingly. The timing on an 180 switch was just,…unfortunate, because of the perception it creates. Let’s move on and concentrate on the important business of the Senate.

More on the Job Training. The degree to which imbeciles are put into powerful positions in this country is mindboggling.

Hmm, wonder why she happened to revise her stance?

fogw on February 3, 2009 at 3:13 PM

She isn’t a coward, an imbecile, or confused. She is a politician. She has no values unless they are political expediants.

If it gets her a vote, or an appointment she will say or do whatever it takes. She has no concern about anyone or anything except her own political gravy train.

If people don’t see how obvious this has become with our politicians, they are intentionally delusional.

Unfortunately the problem isn’t limited to Democrats. We have had our share of corrupt politicians, and that is part of why we are where we are today. Maybe we should view exposure to Washington in the same way we view exposure to radiation, and limit the amount of time any human can be exposed to that environment.

DFCtomm on February 3, 2009 at 3:26 PM

She will never win a statewide election. Cuomo might run either for the senate or governor. Peter King already declared he is running against Gillibrand.
She is a sell-out and everyone who follows NY politics knows it. She switches positions in a heartbeat if it means she could garner more votes and popularity.
NYC does not make up all the votes in the state. But it does have the MSM whom she is sucking up to.

BigWyo on February 3, 2009 at 3:30 PM

I couldn’t stomach the whole video. Her liberal, leftist indoctrination is solidly taking root.

What is wrong with these people who call themselves our political leaders?

What about the rule of law?

What about protecting the sovereignty of the United States?

What about protecting the middle class against job loss to people who don’t belong in the country?

What about people who don’t belong in the country stealing the scarce social services of the American people?

All her once right views are changed because she talked to community leaders? What could community leaders possibly have to say that would change the issues above?

It’s all about political expediency at a great cost to the American people.

The time for pitchforks and torches is nearer than I would like to believe…

This is the problem with our system. We don’t have ‘leaders’. . . what we have is a bunch of people trying to be elected. Nothing more.

Until we go to a merit based system of voting where everyone might not necessarily get to vote, we are going to bankrupt government. People who don’t pay taxes don’t care about things like this and yet they vote.

Term limits could go a long way to reducing the power that the federal government has grabbed away from the states but it is not a guarantee.
