Chuck Todd: If anything, Obama’s vetting of Daschle was too thorough

posted at 6:08 pm on February 3, 2009 by Allahpundit

Too thorough, that is, in the sense that they supposedly got bogged down in other issues and didn’t pay as much attention to taxes as they should have. Er, is that remotely plausible? Geithner paid his back taxes on November 21, the same day Obama nominated him for Treasury. From that day on, Team Barry had every reason to check and re-check the other nominees’ exposure to prevent precisely this sort of pattern from emerging and a media frenzy from erupting. Did they neglect to do that? Or did Daschle just lie to them when they asked? According to the Times, he didn’t mention his tax problem to them until late December or early January, weeks after he was nominated on December 11, despite having known about it since June.

The fact that they went ahead with Killefer’s nomination, whose tax lien was imposed four years ago, notwithstanding Geithner’s and Daschle’s snafus makes me think it’s not so much a vetting problem as a Messiah problem: They assumed the public would support The One no matter what, all the more so in a crisis environment with a deep blue Congress wielding a rubber stamp, so they gambled on pushing them all through. Only when the Geithner story took off did they realize they’d miscalculated. Oh well. Exit question via Jim Treacher: That John McCain sure did a sloppy job vetting Joe the Plumber, huh?

They assumed the public would support The One no matter what

What’s that phrase? Assume makes an ass of you and me???

The defense is that they are so good they are bad? They are so right they are wrong? They make no mistakes, so that is a mistake?

So I had almost finished a mouthful of dinner when I read the headline for this on the home page.

Then I laughed out loud and some Mac’n'Cheese ended up on Todd’s lil’ face

:(

What a waste of a bite!

I read somewhere that it is because of Obama’s TRANSPARENCY that we are finding out about the tax debtedness of his candidates. He’s the only Prez that has been so TRANSPARENT as to look at tax records for nominees. Or something like that.

Yes. The egos of narcissistic politicians cannot be underestimated. They forget how many of us were not Obama voters, even as the Kool-Aid wears off for some who were.

Obama represents minorities and liberals against what they see as the traditional white Christian male power structure. If he does a shitty job against them, they know it on some level, but aren’t going to seriously complain given what they see as the alternative.

Heck, Obama’s vetting struck out on BOTH the tax cheating AND the lobbying that wasn’t really lobbying because Daschle wasn’t actually labelled a lobbyist, per se, even though he got paid to essentially, lobby. (Run on sentence intended)

Todd is a turd. Recall how bad he was during the election race? Obama was under extreme pressure from Reid and others to get Daschle back on the government hog tit since they were trying to get even for him getting voted out of office by the conservative block. When the wheels started coming off the wagon Rahm saw the handwriting on the wall and told BO to throw him under the bus. I called the White House yesterday and the lines were apparently tied up with similar calls asking to dump him. The ad dredged up from Daschle’s election in 1986 was the best nail in his coffin. Off course we got Dodd, Frank, Reid and many more do different than Daschle and we’ve got to get rid of them somehow.

Now we can unabashedly, justifibly, question, Daschle’s patriotism.
And Charley Rangel.
Al Franken.
Tim Geithner.
Nancy Killefer.
And there are probably others in the pipeline.

Those are merely sleazy politicians. (yes…redundant)

And while their actions are a virus in the body politic, they aren’t the existential danger posed by our enemies.

And this is the administration that will now be in charge of vetting the intentions and strengths of those enemies.

That causes me discomfort.

Yep, snowed here in Fayetteville NC (Again, third time this year) and I’m in my house freezing my baguettes off thinking about folks who have actually died in Kentucky from a two week ice storm that Barry doesn’t seem to care about and it just convinces me, that the Earth is warming. I heard compelling evidence on MSNBC.

Maybe the useful idiots at MSNBC could explain why the Great Lakes didn’t even exist 5000 years ago. They were under a sheet of ice 2 miles thick. I guess Ogg drove a mean SUV in 3000BC and his wife Oggette used a hell of a lot of hairspray on her body.

From Wiki

The Great Lakes were formed at the end of the last ice age about 10,000 years ago, when the Laurentide ice sheet receded. When this happened, the glaciers left behind a large amount of meltwater (see Lake Agassiz) which filled up the basins that the glaciers had carved, thus creating the Great Lakes as we know them today

Look at the graphic on the Wiki page and you see that the lakes were at least partially iced over by the Laurentide Ice sheet until 5k years ago.

So, that freaking ice sheet has been slowly but surely receeding for 10,000 stinking years. Any notion that man caused that is beyond stupid. Perhaps we could speed things up a little but I’m not even sure about that. Larger factors than man are at work. But, as you said, the leftist tools at MSNBC keep spouting the mantra…
