Paul Begala: The real leader of the GOP is a “corpulent drug addict”

posted at 3:44 pm on January 31, 2009 by Allahpundit

Sounds like the wounds from the Clinton years haven’t healed yet. Tame stuff by the normal standards of left-wing commentary on Limbaugh, but still jarring given how seamlessly he transitions from his kind opening words for Michael Steele. Normal people have to build up to a shot this nasty; for Begala, I guess, it’s just background noise in his mind. But then, that’s why CNN pays him.

I missed this Politico piece the other day about Begala’s daily BS session with Rahm Emanuel, Carville, and Stephanopoulos, but some righty site I frequent (can’t remember which) picked it up and made a good point. Imagine, if you will, a Republican version, with on-air commentators at, say, Fox News having regular confidential phone briefings with Karl Rove or Josh Bolten or some other White House insider close to the president. Think Fox would have some ‘splaining to do about that?

Obama is running the GOP now?

Paul Begala: The real leader of the GOP is a “corpulent drug addict”

Well, the current “leader” of the free world is a corpulent coke and pothead.

So what’s your point fish face?

darwin on January 31, 2009 at 3:47 PM

Teddy Kenendy is the head of the GOP? Who knew?

Wethal on January 31, 2009 at 3:49 PM

This is standard Clinto slime. When vunerable launch a horrendous attack so the issue gets shifted. That is Begala’s job, distract and attack. Yeah we hate Begala, but we are not talking about the “stimulus” They know how much this bill can blow up in their face if the country looks at it line by line. They have the votes, but I tell you they are actually nervous about what is happening.

rob verdi on January 31, 2009 at 3:50 PM

It’s funny cause its true.
still wont make me go Dem tho…

abobo on January 31, 2009 at 3:50 PM

And what does begala have to say about obama’s drug use? Hmmmmmmm?

ErinF on January 31, 2009 at 3:51 PM

After they go after bonuses, expect them to push hard on the “green aspects” and “energy independence” to hoodwink the country.

rob verdi on January 31, 2009 at 3:51 PM

I love that screen shot. He looks like the monster in “Young Frankenstein”.

You can almost hear him bellowing “Puttin’ on the ritz!!”

capitalist piglet on January 31, 2009 at 3:52 PM

I wouldn’t call the Anointed One a corpulent coke and pothead. I’d call him a pencil-necked, geek coke and pothead.

Jeff on January 31, 2009 at 3:52 PM

Normal people have to build up to a shot this nasty

Begala, the unifier, the face of the new “post-partisan”.

petefrt on January 31, 2009 at 3:54 PM

You mean Barack Obama? He was a cokehead.

He’s not quite “corpulent” though.

BKennedy on January 31, 2009 at 3:55 PM

Where is a photo of Obama sucking down a cigarette when you need one? Remind me again, cocaine user vs someone addicted to painkillers, which is worse? Considering Rush doesn’t shape American policy, put forth legislation or have his finger on a nuclear arsenal I think Begala’s comments really hurt his side more than it comes close to defaming the GOP over Rush’s past addiction.

Sounds like the old Arkansas mafia is feeling their oats…deflect, a little slight of hand, fix the blame on someone else, and presto, problem solved. Typical Begala/Carville modis operandi.

As my Sergeant Major used to say, “When you can’t razzle them with dazzle, then baffle them with bullshit.”

(Now, then, is Begala going to go after McCafferty on CNN for being an alcoholic, too?)

coldwarrior on January 31, 2009 at 3:57 PM

Isn’t this a warmed-over three day old Headline?

fiatboomer on January 31, 2009 at 3:58 PM

Is this going to be their veiled response to Steele’s selection? That Steele’s just a token figurehead who doesn’t realize where his true political home is, and Rush is writing his scripts for him?

Wethal on January 31, 2009 at 3:58 PM

Typical liberal attack. They can call him names based on his appearance and medical history, but can’t refute his points. Liberalism is a mental disorder. Savage called it years ago.

Kataklysmic on January 31, 2009 at 3:59 PM

Slow learners. I’m not a Limbaugh fan but he is playing them masterfully. Begala has more fish like characteristics than just his looks. He can’t resist a pretty dry fly lying on the surface.

Speedwagon82 on January 31, 2009 at 4:06 PM

And Bill Clinton did not want to release medical records, due to the possibility he had his nose reconstructed as a result of all the coke he inhaled. Anyone else remember that??
Democrats can be accused of rape, they can use the “N” word in an interview, they can write pornographic novels, they can steal files, intimidate, investigate, lie, drive their girlfriends off the bridge and into the creek leaving them for dead while forgetting to call for help, not pay taxes, break laws, abuse their power, hide evidence of crimes in their offices,, am I forgetting anything???? But Rush??? Well, he’s an addict.

Let them hate me because they fear me ? Seems to be the theme.

William Amos on January 31, 2009 at 4:07 PM

Like the Nazis used Jews and the communists used capitalists as the outside demons that justified internal opppression, the Democratic party needs someone to hate. Now that Bush is gone and every Republican in congress is an ineffectual leader, it appears that Rush will now be the left’s punching bag and honorary leader of the dark forces trying to overthrow the people’s republic.

capejasmine on January 31, 2009 at 4:18 PM

Jamson64 on January 31, 2009 at 4:02 PM

It was a addiction he acquired from a prescription pain-killer he had been using related to his back surgery. He kicked it 4-5 years ago.

I too became addicted to prescribed medication about eight years ago. I was in the hospital after surgery at the time. I started weaning off the meds a week or two before leaving the hospital, and finished kicking the habit at home. Believe me, it was pure hell, worse than I had ever imagined it could be. That Rush was able to do it with so little impairment of his functionality tells me that the man has a will of steel.

petefrt on January 31, 2009 at 4:19 PM

Damn, this guy’s face looks just like the device the teachers union used to teach my 3rd grader how to use a condom on.

If you look at everything that the demos scream about repubs doing, it is because they are doing it themselves and just expect the other side is doing it too, so they scream about it. If they scream racism – look at their recent quotes because it is there somewhere. If they scream corruption, look in their freezer – because it is there. If they scream figurehead, just look at the president, because it is there.

No Mr.Begala-The stimulus, recovery, ripoff package is a corpulent drug addict.

• $83 billion in welfare payments
$81 billion for Medicaid• $66 billion on “education”, more than the entire Department of Education required just ten years ago
• $36 billion for expanded unemployment benefits
• $20 billion for food stamps• $8 billion on “renewable energy” projects, which have a low or negative return
• $7 billion for “modernizing federal buildings and facilities”
• $6 billion on urban transit systems, dominated by unions and which, almost universally, lose money
• $2.4 billion for “carbon-capture demonstration projects”
• $2 billion for child-care subsidies
• $1 billion for Amtrak, the federal railroad that’s run in the red for 40 years
• $650 million for “digital TV conversion coupons” (on top of billions already spent)
• $600 million on new cars for government (added to the $3 billion already spent each year)

Looked around trying to find my pants, and then
Splish, splash! I realized my chance of becoming president was going to take a bath
Well how was I to know there was a drowning going on

She was a-splishing and a-splashing, reelin’ from my feelin’
Moving and a-grooving, bobbing and a-sinking, yea

Typical no-substance liberal rant.

Because Begala has no credible argument to refute Limbaugh’s points, he’ll just employ an ad hominem attack instead. Happens all the time with liberals. No convincing data, call him a name. “Sticks and stones” and all that stuff. Yeah, that works. Are liberals so lazy they don’t bother to prepare a logical argument? They just attack.

My smart ole geezer daddy told me that if the only response they can make is to launch a personal attack, they lose!

TexasJew on January 31, 2009 at 4:32 PM

To me all this strong talk coming from the left about Limbaugh is a clear indication that the Obama administration fully intends to reintroduce the fairness doctrine.

By pushing the meme that Limbaugh is some sort of grand poo-bah for the conservative movement that everybody listens to and follows they are trying to drive a wedge of resentment between the GOP representatives on the Hill and conservative voices in the media, thereby hopefully reducing resistance by the GOP in the the House and Senate against any possible attempt by the Democrats to introduce legislation to bring back the Fairness doctrine.

Dreadnought223 on January 31, 2009 at 4:36 PM

The absolute hate by the left did not start or stop with Bush. Hate is entrenched in the very soul of liberals. Pagala and Carvile are so deranged that they make their livings crossing the line in their attacks on the right, attacks civil people would never consider. If you are a whore and don’t care who knows, you can make a living.

So now was this said about the same guy that when Obama was reported telling Maureen Dowd that he wished she wouldn’t make fun of his ears because people had done it all his life and it hurt if feelings, he placed a picture of Obama with dumbo ears on his website? Didn’t have anything to do with politics, he was just making a point of ridiculing a bodily feature which the guy had said he was sensitive about.

I’m sure Limbaugh LOVES the fact that Paul said this. Why? Because then the zombies who pay for his $3,000 suits and big fat cigars will be all agitated about it and will talk about him and post about it on their blog and then his site and show will get more traffic, which will lead to more cigars, etc.

You guys are the biggest suckers on earth.

“Whatever libtard, Obama does worrrse.”

Allahpundit should post about Obama criticizing the Holocaust so everyone can come on here and be like “oh you’re one to talk about the Nazis, Obama, you hypocrite. At least the Nazis didn’t [fill in the blank].

Begalia is too creepy for words.

You gotta believe he has something going on with animals or rubber, or both.
