Paul Begala: The real leader of the GOP is a “corpulent drug addict”

posted at 3:44 pm on January 31, 2009 by Allahpundit

Sounds like the wounds from the Clinton years haven’t healed yet. Tame stuff by the normal standards of left-wing commentary on Limbaugh, but still jarring given how seamlessly he transitions from his kind opening words for Michael Steele. Normal people have to build up to a shot this nasty; for Begala, I guess, it’s just background noise in his mind. But then, that’s why CNN pays him.

I missed this Politico piece the other day about Begala’s daily BS session with Rahm Emanuel, Carville, and Stephanopoulos, but some righty site I frequent (can’t remember which) picked it up and made a good point. Imagine, if you will, a Republican version, with on-air commentators at, say, Fox News having regular confidential phone briefings with Karl Rove or Josh Bolten or some other White House insider close to the president. Think Fox would have some ‘splaining to do about that?

Mr. Begala is obviously addicted to snark.

Paul Begala,’Super Liberal Operative’!

Keep him away….from a microphone,at all cost!

canopfor on January 31, 2009 at 6:01 PM

Hey, they’re being ‘open and transparent’. Before they would not even admit to parroting the Demo talking points. Now they at least admit to attending the daily pep rally.

GarandFan on January 31, 2009 at 6:04 PM

Well,H#lls Bells,and its the weekend,
and its right back to the,

Clinton War Room Talking Points Express!
—————————————-

Since,Hopey has hired the Clinton’s goons,
that is the agenda, the next four years, spin,
spin,spin,and never answering any questions!

And,when every Lefty talkin show, like MSNBC
or CNN, mentions Rush,almost verbatim,its
the same exact talkin point phrases!!

What old,is new again!

canopfor on January 31, 2009 at 6:10 PM

Begala has quite the corpulant forehead, no?

anniekc on January 31, 2009 at 6:18 PM

He was just going to say “fat,” but that morning James and George and Rahm suggested “corpulent.”

Jim Treacher on January 31, 2009 at 6:22 PM

So now was this said about the same guy that when Obama was reported telling Maureen Dowd that he wished she wouldn’t make fun of his ears because people had done it all his life and it hurt if feelings, he placed a picture of Obama with dumbo ears on his website? Didn’t have anything to do with politics, he was just making a point of ridiculing a bodily feature which the guy had said he was sensitive about.

I’m sure Limbaugh LOVES the fact that Paul said this. Why? Because then the zombies who pay for his $3,000 suits and big fat cigars will be all agitated about it and will talk about him and post about it on their blog and then his site and show will get more traffic, which will lead to more cigars, etc.

You guys are the biggest suckers on earth.

alex342 on January 31, 2009 at 5:41 PM

So have you gotten your Barrack Obama Inaugural commemorative Plate set and little blue book of Obama quotes yet?

Dreadnought223 on January 31, 2009 at 6:24 PM

Hardball indeed. Talk about crushing of dissent.

spmat on January 31, 2009 at 6:24 PM

Now if Rush Limbaugh called Obama ‘a hip drug addict’ I wonder what the MSM’s response would have been.

To Rush’s credit he admitted his problem on the air, sought and got help, and I assume is clean. To his credit I have never heard Rush belabor the point that Obama was a former drug user (he admitted it in one of his memoirs).

Paul Begala is a disgusting man; he is stark symbol of the decline of western civilization.

technopeasant on January 31, 2009 at 7:04 PM

He’s a Dem political strategist hating on Rush Limbaugh….so shocking. I’m a little bit pissed he used drug addiction as a weapoin though, that’s not progressive. Drug addiction strikes all types of people, often our family and other loved ones. Begala’s demonization of Rush in this way is an incredible low blow. Get it together Begala.

DeathToMediaHacks on January 31, 2009 at 5:31 PM

Wow, an actual intelligent comment. I’m impressed. Did the same fever (possibly hopey and changey fever)that all of a sudden affected the republican house members get you too.

Corsair on January 31, 2009 at 7:05 PM

the zombies who pay for his $3,000 suits and big fat cigars will be all agitated about it

Oh come ON! Who exactly do you think pays for Obama’s $3000 suits and french cigarettes. Go smack yourself, ya big idiot!

I just love this controversy. It gives Rush so much MSM exposure and allows people to see how articulate and intelligent he is…not exactly the belligerent fool the media have made him out to be.

mathscience41 on January 31, 2009 at 7:16 PM

Personal failings are reserved for Democrats. Then it’s a badge of honour and you cannot question it.

Asher on January 31, 2009 at 7:17 PM

The Forehead is just pissed because El Rushbo calls him…The Forehead.

Personally, I prefer “The Foreskin” because he is, in fact, more dick than forehead.

******I’m just sayin’, maybe Rush should reconsider******

seejanemom on January 31, 2009 at 7:28 PM

volsense,

The absolute hate by the left did not start or stop with Bush. Hate is entrenched in the very soul of liberals. Pagala and Carvile are so deranged that they make their livings crossing the line in their attacks on the right, attacks civil people would never consider.

The Right thinks the Left is stupid. The Left thinks the Right is evil. From that perspective, the hate comes naturally.

Spiny Norman on January 31, 2009 at 7:30 PM

Begala comes from the Wesley Clark school of the creepy, barely humanoid sensibility. He slithers gracefully but does not impress. People like him always make people like Clinton look good by comparison.

The real goal is to silence Conservative talk radio. So far the Left is shooting blanks.

EMD on January 31, 2009 at 7:44 PM

Consider the ratings on this ridiculous excuse for a network. Ad hominem attacks mean you have nothing of substance to argue. “I feel a tingle up my leg” being the new benchmark of journalistic intellectual standards. Keep it coming. This is nothing if not amusing.

Gulfcoastconservative on January 31, 2009 at 8:06 PM

CNN… serious commentary is disallowed.

Hog Wild on January 31, 2009 at 8:06 PM

Sorry, my mistake. Hard to differentiate between CNN and MSNBC most of the time.

Gulfcoastconservative on January 31, 2009 at 8:13 PM

“The Right thinks the Left is stupid. The Left thinks the Right is evil. From that perspective, the hate comes naturally.”

The left wants to find what they did to “cause” terrorists to want to kill them, then wants to paint conservatives who think murdering children is wrong as evil. From that perspective, thinking the left is stupid comes naturally.

brainy435 on January 31, 2009 at 8:31 PM

Gosh, that was unkind. How would Begala feel if someone said “the typical Democrat pundit is a skinny, pompous faggot with a comical superiority complex who would lose a masculinity contest to 80% of the women in his own party?”

morganfrost on January 31, 2009 at 8:35 PM

You are only allowed to be a drug addict, tax cheat, liar or cheat on your wife who has cancer if you are a liberal. Most conservatives actually have a sense of shame for the mistakes they have made in the past. Thus the reason more decent people will not run for public office. They don’t want their dirty laundry aired on MSM. Result is we now have a wishy washy GOP. Just my theory.

Gulfcoastconservative on January 31, 2009 at 8:44 PM

Oh Begala is proposing a PURITY TEST for Rush Limbaugh, like the one the Republicans applied to Bill Clinton except Rush is out in the open..So Begala wants a tit for tat, and have Obama under go a PURITY TEST by the Republicans? You Who…Ladies don’t dry clean your party dresses.

Dr Evil on January 31, 2009 at 8:48 PM

Has Begala been seen at parties with a bong in his hand? Seems to me with comments like this he is stoned as s**t!

Atlanta Media Guy on January 31, 2009 at 8:55 PM

No surprise at the bile from Begala. It doesn’t have to be held over from the Clinton years. It gets refreshed every time Rush talks about him on the air. You know that even if Begala doesn’t listen to Rush, he must have minions who do, and you can be sure they report back: “Rush called you The Forehead three times today.”

curved space on January 31, 2009 at 8:56 PM

Instead of worrying about Rush’s former addiction to painkillers, perhaps we should consider what this outrageous “stimulus package” will cost the taxpayer for the next generation. I may need some painkillers myself.

Gulfcoastconservative on January 31, 2009 at 9:05 PM

Wait a minute.

Do we make fun of drug addicts? Aren’t they just that way because the government does not buy them underwear and twinkies and pay their rent?

I am confussed.

Elizabetty on January 31, 2009 at 9:18 PM

LOL he called Limbaugh a fat drug addict….it’s funny cause it’s true.

Until conservatives reslize that Limbaugh is a fringe lunatic, the longer the time spent in the political wildnerness.

harry on January 31, 2009 at 9:21 PM

It’s not just the underwear and twinkies. We also need gas in our car and a chicken in every pot….

Gulfcoastconservative on January 31, 2009 at 9:24 PM

fringe lunatic? Let’s put Rush up against the Rev. Wright.

Gulfcoastconservative on January 31, 2009 at 9:26 PM

They go after Rush Limbaugh personally but can never refute his ideas. They have to call him a corrupt drug addict but can’t refute a word of his critizisms about the trillion tax dollars they want to flush. Also, I think it’s funny to hear dems claim Rush runs the GOP. If that were true, McCain wouldn’t have ever been their nominee.

Dollayo on January 31, 2009 at 9:33 PM

fringe lunatic? Let’s put Rush up against the Rev. Wright.

Gulfcoastconservative on January 31, 2009 at 9:26 PM

Page from the same book.

Rush and Wright play from the same book. Both morons like their names to be out there. Both say nothing constructive but both feed the red meat to the masses who follow them like sheep.

Every week I hear Limbaugh say something “controversial”. Usually it some badly disguised racial comment, or some garbage about failure, or some excuse as to why conservatives keep losing elections.

I’ll tell you why conservatives keep losing, it’s because the base listens to losers like this guy.

He can’t help win the middle, who last time I checked, you need to win an election.

It’s time Conservatives got real, woke up, and stopped listening to a shock jocks’s garbage.

harry on January 31, 2009 at 9:37 PM

Harry, say what you will about Rush, but at least godd–m the USA has never come out of his mouth. Yes he is partisan and appeals to his audience, but he loves his country. With a national defict like we have now and a so-called “stimulus package” in the works the likes of which this country has never seen for spending and pork I know who truly cares about this nation and who is more interested in political power than real problem solving.

Gulfcoastconservative on January 31, 2009 at 9:57 PM

harry on January 31, 2009 at 9:37 PM

I think you are wrong about Rush. I don’t think people follow him like sheep. Rush is popular because he says what many people already believe. They are not convinced by Rush but rather validated by him. Many people hear Rush say something and think to themselves; That is what I was thinking just the other day.

Rush has been saying that the Republican party can’t be the democrat party lite. They can’t be seen as the party that will destroy America in the same way as the democrats will but only at a slower rate. He says government spending is not a path to prosperity and the idea that it is should be abandoned. You say that the reason republicans lose elections is because republicans listen to Rush. I must ask you, why bother winning if we are to adopt the same failed socialist plans as democrats propose? What is the point of winning? What did Rush say that you disagree with? Let’s hear it. I am still waiting for an argument against his politics instead of his style.

Dollayo on January 31, 2009 at 10:01 PM

Ithink that everyone who wants this country to convert to Euro-socialism should spend some time in Europe. My husband came to this country from The Netherlands. In 14 years I have never heard him express a desire to return there to live. The tax rate over there is absoultely unbelievable. Go visit. When you come home, I promise you will KISS THE GROUND IN GRATITUDE!!!

Gulfcoastconservative on January 31, 2009 at 10:15 PM

What an absolute idiot! You need the middle to win an election. Duh! What you also need is a good candidate; a good campaign; a good track record to run on; energy, funds, and a willingness to expose the opposition every time they spew lies. When an absolute rookie coke snorting, pot smokin radical phony can win 53% of the vote, the other guy must have really been something special; ya think…

Every week I hear Rush Limbaugh say something controversial…. Every day I hear Keith Olbermann say something controversial and dishonest, that doesn’t stop you from bowing at his knees does it? Come on back here and quote some Limbaugh lies for us harry boy.

Pauly has no hair on his forehead because he and others keep trying to slap some sense into that vast wasteland he calls a brain,or because he is always banging his head against the wall.

When Pauly and the other members of CNN/MSNBC clique get together, I have to ask that he stop shaking his head when in opposition to anything logical because I do not like being interrupted by the incessant rattling.

Harry said, “Rush and Wright play from the same book. Both morons like their names to be out there. Both say nothing constructive but both feed the red meat to the masses who follow them like sheep.”
Harry: Rush proposed that, since 53% voted for Barry, and 47% voted for our (admittedly lame) candidate, then why not have 53% of the stimulus package go for Gummint Programs like STD prevention and “shovel-ready” programs which will take two years just to get past the EPA;; and have the 47% of remaining stimulus funds, go to tax cuts for individuals and businesses, in various forms of tax reductions?

Sounds like “something constructive” from MahHa Rushie, and just G-D Amerika!! from whitey-hating Rev.Wright, to me…

jsaturn on February 1, 2009 at 1:32 PM

The left refuses to address the substance of Rush’s arguments, choosing instead to attack physical attributes or character flaws. They do this because it works for them and obviates any need to validate their own positions. That may be why conservatism and Christianity appear to be waning in America. They require effort. The fact that they are well worth the effort is beside the point. It’s just easier to be lazy and ill-informed.

SKYFOX on February 2, 2009 at 5:51 AM

If corpulence is the bar from which the lefties declare competence, then Kennedy, Gore, Dodd, Rangle, I could go on, have cut quite a swath with there corpulent incompetence.

The purple lipped one has set the cocaine, pot smoking bar pretty high. The left definitely wins the tally on substance abuse. They have been entertaining conservatives

“Considering Rush doesn’t shape American policy, put forth legislation or have his finger on a nuclear arsenal I think Begala’s comments really hurt his side more than it comes close to defaming the GOP over Rush’s past addiction”

This is what I don’t get.

The President of THE UNITED STATES of AMERICA is the leader of the FREE world.
The MOST POWERFUL person in the world.
So here’s the Question.

Is/are the Dems/Obama trying to raise the prestige of a talk show host or lower the prestige of the Presidency?

If that is what they are trying to do it’s working.

If not, then they’re $crewing the pooch.
