Video: Beloved president gets rousing ovation at basketball game

posted at 4:33 pm on January 29, 2009 by Allahpundit

It’s in Waco, granted, but after eight years of Bush Derangement Syndrome culminating in boos at The One’s inauguration, any moment of appreciation is a sweet one.

Dude, are we sure Texas is a blue state? Click the image to watch.

I wish President Barry were a ‘nation wide hallucination’–then we could all slap one another into sanity and move on.

No one doubts that you’ve been hallucinating the last eight years, but you really don’t need to complain here about it that you were made to trip on your own.

Feel free to experience sanity any time you choose. No one is stopping you.

Poor Benny. Unrequited BDS is so sad. It’s like a dog waiting for a master that will never come home again.

The Left is looking to Rush or Sarah as a replacement, but that’s not working out too well either.

Do you mean like California? Some of my friends cannot believe that I support Sarah Palin. They think I’m frickin’ nuts!! It’s impossible to have an intelligent discussion with them about Palin or Bush for that matter.

Callie C. on January 29, 2009 at 5:13 PM

Don’t I know it. I’m in Cal now. It feels like Europe (and not in a good way). Everyone is miserable. If you engage regular people (shopkeepers and the like) they are so dispirited living under Sacramento’s thumb.

Only the academics around me seem happy with the excess of legislation here — but they are affluent enough to be able to afford the conveniences to get around it. One example, the crappy bags in grocery stores (and the push to charge for them and/or require reusable bags). Not a big deal if you’re rich enough to have “help” shopping for your groceries, but just today I was chatting at the checkout at World Market and the gal was reminiscing about the old days when you could have a good shopping bag for free. Small example, I know, but part and parcel of life under a nanny state.

I do not need to be surrounded by conservatives, but it would be nice to live side-by-side with reasonable liberals.

I grew up in liberal Maryland (in the DC metro area) during the Nixon/Ford/Carter era. All of my close friends were liberals (“progressives” before that term became popular), but from the age of 9 through high school we were able to have spirited discussions about politics. I was always in the minority, but we still had fun arguing about issues.

Then one of my good friends came back from college for summer break (he happened to go to Berkeley). I remember him telling me with great enthusiasm about his new girlfriend and how great it was that she was “politically correct.” That was the first time I had heard the term. Not long after that, during the Reagan years, I noticed a distinct shift in the liberals I knew — they were no longer able to be cordial or even respectful about politics.

I’ve worked in and around Ph.D.s my whole life, but ironically, the most meaningful political conversations I ever had were when I was a pre-teen and teenager.

Most don’t discuss politics, so I can see that the liberals there would seem less shrill anyway.

Esthier on January 29, 2009 at 5:13 PM

Yeah, that’s true. You know what? I’d happily settle for that rather than have to quietly listen to some liberal spout off on an anti-conservative diatribe because s/he never considered the possibility that I (1) don’t agree with him/her or (2) give a rat’s patootie about his/her opinion.

terryannonline on January 29, 2009 at 4:38 PM

That’s pretty much the norm. I remember watching the national memorial service for the 9/11/01 atrocities. The cameras panned over to where the former Presidents were sitting and thinking what a nice couple GHWB and Barbara made sitting there with their gray haired elegance. Then the camera angle changed, turned out I was looking at Barbara Bush but they guy sitting next to her was Bill Clinton and was out of office all of nine months at that point!

The other thing I’ll add is the way these guys come into office and proclaim that they are going to keep up good habits. Remember how GWB and Clinton both jogged at the beginning of their first terms? Those habits don’t seem to last long with the presidential schedule. It’s only a matter of time before Obama is no longer portrayed as a health nut with time to play basketball.

The local television station in Dallas caught him and Laura going to look at his new house, and he was just waving out the window at the camera, smiling. It wasn’t an announced visit, so they must have someone staked out around his neighborhood.

I think the thing to remember about California, New York, Massachusetts, heck, any of the deep blue states is that they represent the homes of lots of people, including lots of good people. Although tempting, it’s best to not tar everyone with the brush of their wacky politicians or even of the majority of voters.

People live where they live for all sorts of reasons, including where there families reside — not everyone has a chance to choose where they live based on their political views. My hubby and I spent most of our marriage living in cities because they had good electron microscopes! There is a value to living amongst people whose views differ from your own, imho, although taken to its extremes (Boston during the first Gulf War) it can be exhausting!

I just wish we could return to a type of civility in political discourse that I have not seen in many years.

Of the places I’ve lived as an adult, Houston was by far the best in terms of the politeness factor. I wish the weather were better!

Most Voters Say News Media Wants Obama to Win
“Joe the Plumber” a Top Campaign Story
http://people-press.org/report/463/media-wants-obama
Summary of Findings

Voters overwhelmingly believe that the media wants Barack Obama to win the presidential election. By a margin of 70%-9%, Americans say most journalists want to see Obama, not John McCain, win on Nov. 4. Another 8% say journalists don’t favor either candidate, and 13% say they don’t know which candidate most reporters support.

MS-NBC convention driver: Crowd questions rigged

Today on our NARN show, Mitch Berg and I interviewed Doug, a volunteer driver who worked for the Republican National Convention Committee in St. Paul. His customers included the Washington Post, MS-NBC, and some of the McCain campaign. According to Doug, this allowed him to peer behind the scenes in both media and politics, and he saw some very interesting things:

According to Doug, MS-NBC apparently took no chances on questions from the crowd. Rather than get caught with a question that might make Republicans look good, their producer pre-screened questioners, and Chris Matthews pretended it was random.

Matthews: My Job Is To Make Obama Presidency a Success

CHRIS MATTHEWS: Yeah, well, you know what? I want to do everything I can to make this thing work, this new presidency work, and I think that –

JOE SCARBOROUGH: Is that your job? You just talked about being a journalist!

MATTHEWS: Yeah, it is my job. My job is to help this country.

Halperin at Politico/USC conf.: ‘extreme pro-Obama’ press bias

Media bias was more intense in the 2008 election than in any other national campaign in recent history, Time magazine’s Mark Halperin said Friday at the Politico/USC conference on the 2008 election.

“It’s the most disgusting failure of people in our business since the Iraq war,” Halperin said at a panel of media analysts. “It was extreme bias, extreme pro-Obama coverage.”

Muslims barred from picture at Obama event

Two Muslim women at Barack Obama’s rally in Detroit on Monday were barred from sitting behind the podium by campaign volunteers seeking to prevent the women’s headscarves from appearing in photographs or on television with the candidate.

Building a human backdrop to a political candidate, a set of faces to appear on television and in photographs, is always a delicate exercise in demographics and political correctness. Advance staffers typically pick supporters out of a crowd to reflect the candidate’s message

Obama’s Edge in the Coverage Race
By Deborah Howell
Sunday, August 17, 2008; B06.

Barack Obama has had about a 3 to 1 advantage over Republican John McCain in Post Page 1 stories since Obama became his party’s presumptive nominee June 4

In overall political stories from June 4 to Friday, Obama dominated by 142 to 96. Obama has been featured in 35 stories on Page 1; McCain has been featured in 13, with three Page 1 references with photos to stories on inside pages.

These are just a few of the many examples of bias and MSM message control to help your Messiah Obama.

Bush has lived in TX most of his adult life. Bush Sr lived in TX for the better part of his adult life. Bush’s wife was born and raised in TX. Both his kids were born and raised in TX. Bush was governor of TX for 8 years. After leaving the White House he moved back to TX.

Oh, and the Alamo has nothing to do with the United States. Surely you’re familiar with the story?

Esthier on January 29, 2009 at 6:13 PM

I think he looks great. And even when he gets old he’ll never look as weak and fetid as the leftwingnut surrendermonkey now posing as CIC.

So how’s that letter to Amadmaninastupiddinnerjacket coming along. As if a letter is going to change his Islamist heart. Such arrogance, such narcissism, such stupidity.

That jackass would nap at the San Jacinto… and then wonder why his sorry butt got kicked in less than twenty minutes by Sam Houston…

newton on January 29, 2009 at 6:15 PM

My dear President Bush,

Remember these words. TX conceal carry. Castle Doctrine.

No Liberal maggot will survive an encounter with you.

Oh yeah, some good TX BBQ. And rub some jalapenos on them, too!

newton on January 29, 2009 at 6:18 PM

Former Presidents always get more popular after leaving office.

The current President appears to be getting less popular.

Google “anti Obama” and enjoy the feast.

newton on January 29, 2009 at 6:15 PM

Heh. I used to visit that monument regularly. I grew up in biking distance. We’re not big on history, but we honor what we have.

Esthier on January 29, 2009 at 6:22 PM

He wasn’t the best president we ever had but he did well keeping us safe these eight years.

This was an applause that was long overdue.

Nice Waco.

On another note: the next video shows Obama critizicing Wallstreet bonuses. Now I haven’t looked at this at all. But I find it to be an enormous double standard considering how he has “sacrificed” himself as a politician. I mean, $100 steaks to celebrate the Senate passing the Trillion-dollar monster.

Show me a patriotic Californian, or a patriotic New Yorker. There aren’t any.

All you’re showing is that Texans are dumb-arse egotists. California is Reagan country.

Bush is a class act and a credit to the great state of Texas. I’m sure he’s more than happy to be out of that Washington D.C. cesspool, many miles west of the Mason Dixon Line and among friends.

No, all he meant is that Texans really love their state. He just said it badly. You certainly don’t help your case by insulting all of us though.

Esthier on January 29, 2009 at 6:42 PM

Dayum, you don’t show that to a chick with PMS!!!!!!!!!!!

GET ME MY ICE CREAM PINT, A CHICK FLICK AND CHOCOLATES STAT!

I don’t presume to speak for Limerick, but I believe his point is about the reverence and pride that Texans feel about Texas, above and beyond patriotic feelings toward America.

Texas has a history that is unique among the states for various reasons, not the least among them its size, its varied geography and climate, its proximity to and history of strife with Mexico, its diversity, and its having been a stand-alone Republic. James A. Michener’s Texas is a great read if you don’t mind wading into a long historical novel.

hillbillyjim on January 29, 2009 at 6:45 PM

He looks so old now.

terryannonline on January 29, 2009 at 4:38 PM
Yes, but just look at Obama since last spring. In a year, he’ll look like Lincoln did just before he died.

Let’s not forget–both of Obama’s parents died at relatively young ages. And he’s been a smoker? Chat up his workout routine all you want. The public thought JFK was the picture of health. Yeah, right.

Good for Bush.

BuckeyeSam on January 29, 2009 at 4:45 PM

ProudPalinFan on January 29, 2009 at 6:46 PM

Only 10 days into the disaster that is the Obama presidency; and I miss Bush already.

Compared to Obama; Bush is Washington & Lincoln rolled into one.

Norwegian on January 29, 2009 at 6:46 PM

Spoken like a true Yankee carpetbagger. You don’t understand Texas, never will. It gets inside you. Show me a patriotic Californian, or a patriotic New Yorker. There aren’t any. Come on down to Texas. The REPUBLIC of Texas.

Limerick on January 29, 2009 at 5:25 PM

hey hey hey, Long Islanders/NY/NYCers are some of the most patriotic motherf*ckers I know. The upper west side doesn’t rep all of us.

blatantblue on January 29, 2009 at 6:49 PM

My thoughts exactly. I hope he outlives his critics. Don’t worry, God has got GWB’s back.

Sweetness0726 on January 29, 2009 at 4:45 PM
Hope he’s doing ok. If anyone doubts that being President of the United States is hard just look at the before and after pictures of every modern president. And you can tell they look tired and exhausted. Heck I’ve noticed that President Obama has gotten more gray hair and that’s probably just from two years of campaigning.

terryannonline on January 29, 2009 at 4:55 PM

He actually acknowledges Hillary for doing that to him…I saw a Hillary bumper sticker today :O

ProudPalinFan on January 29, 2009 at 6:52 PM

Ah, Texas. The place where the schoolchildren cheered after Kennedy got shot. Thank you for your patriotism. Sorry about the Alamo.

Vernon Hardapple on January 29, 2009 at 5:59 PM

I hate to tell you, but I don’t believe a word of that at all.

Kennedy’s veep, LBJ, was a Texas Democrat. Governor John Connally of Texas was a Democrat.

That was back in the days when Texas was the land of yellow dog Democrats.

JFK’s assassination was a shock to the entire country.

INC on January 29, 2009 at 6:57 PM

Thanks, Allah. When I saw “beloved president” I figured it was the current disaster. Quite a relief.

Thanks, Baylor — he isn’t perfect, but he loves the USA, and Texas, and did the best he could to keep us safe.

For real? You are still with those talking points? Kos hasn’t given you new talking points since Obama has been elected? Bush is out of office now, you can stop with the faux outrage now.

terryannonline on January 29, 2009 at 5:13 PM

See I totally get what Sean Hannity sez about these liberal folks…

They got: The White House
Senate
House
+100 countries of support
Willing to kiss +70 others’ as*es to rule The World

And still….

NOT ENOUGH!

Ah, Texas. The place where the schoolchildren cheered after Kennedy got shot. Thank you for your patriotism. Sorry about the Alamo.

Vernon Hardapple on January 29, 2009 at 5:59 PM

You’re wrong, as usual. I was here.

Welcome Home W and Laura! I’m so glad to have you back in Texas!!

I agree with ya Lim! It’s hard to explain. I didn’t write this but here it is:

When you’re from Texas, people who you meet ask you questions like, “Do you have any cows?” It’s nice to be able to say yes. They ask you, “Do you have horses?” Yup. Bet you got a bunch of guns, eh? Of course.

They all want to know if you’ve been to Southfork. They watched Dallas. Have you ever looked at a map of the world? Why sure you have. Look at Texas for me just for a second. That picture, with the Panhandle and the Gulf Coast, and the Red River and the Rio Grande is as much a part of you as anything ever will be. As soon as anyone anywhere in the world looks at it, they know what it is. It’s Texas. Pick any kid off the street in Japan and draw him a picture of Texas in the dirt, and he’ll know what it is. What happens if I show you a picture of any other state?
You’ll get it maybe after a second, but who else would? Even if you do, does it ever stir any feelings in you?

In every man, woman and child on this little rock the good Lord put us on, there is somewhere in them a person who wishes just once he could be a real live Texan and get up on a horse or ride in a pickup. Did you ever hear anyone in a restaurant go, “Wow… so you’re from Ok-la-homa. Cool. Tell me about it”? There is some bit of Texas in everyone. Do you know why? Because Texas is Texas.

Texas is the Alamo. Texas is 183 men standing in a church, facing thousands of Mexican soldiers, fighting for freedom, who had the chance to walk out and save themselves but stayed. We send our kids to schools named William B. Travis and Bowie, and do you know why? Because those men saw a line in the sand, and they decided to be heroes. John Wayne paid to do the movie himself. That is Texas. Texas is Sam Houston capturing Santa Ana at San Jacinto. Texas is Texas Independence Day and Juneteenth. Texas is huge forests of piney woods like the Davy Crockett National Forest. Texas is breathtaking mountains in Big Bend. Texas is shiny skyscrapers in Houston and Dallas. Texas is oak and cedar trees, cactus, Bluebonnets and Indian Paintbrush in the beautiful Texas Hill Country. Texas is world record bass from places like Lake Fork. Texas is Mexican food like nowhere in the world, even Mexico.

Texas is larger-than-life legends like Earl Campbell and Nolan Ryan, Denton Cooley and Michael DeBakey, Lyndon Johnson, George Bush, and George W. Bush, Willie Nelson and Buddy Holly. Texas is great companies like Dell Computer and Compaq. Texas is huge herds of cattle and miles of crops. Texas is skies blackened with doves and leases full of deer. Texas is the best Bar-b-que anywhere. Texas is a place where cities shut down for the Cowboys on Monday Night Football and the streets are deserted during church.

Texas is beaches, deserts, lakes and rivers, mountains and prairies.

By federal law, Texas is the only state in the U.S. that can fly its flag at the same height as the U.S. flag. Think about that for a second. You fly the Stars and Stripes at 20 feet in Maryland, or California, or Maine, and your state flag goes at 17. You fly the Stars and Stripes in front of Pine Tree High in Longview, Texas, at 20 feet, and the Lone Star flies at 20 feet. Our capitol is the only one in the country that is taller than the capitol building in D.C. We signed those in as part of the deal when we came on. Texas was its own country. The Republic of Texas. Every time I think of all these things I tear up. All of them make you proud to be a Texan.

Texas Gal on January 29, 2009 at 7:10 PM

Nice and appreciated
at least some states havent tried to have our
former president Arrested..

compate the state of texas where guns are still legal
and patriotism is still shown

to britians public where they are protesting
because the liberals want to take away their last fox hunting rifles

sound familiar it should..
Pelozi and obama are already on record stating they would like to see some sort of gun control.

Britians are facing an army of 300,000 criminals armed to the teeth
while they hide inside their own homes because if they fight back they will go to prision not the criminals

Unlike president bush whom i still repsect.

obama has this in store for all americans

I LOVE president Bush, sure I was disappointed at some of the things he did which I am not going to mention here, but with him you knew where he stood and knew what to expect and the way that he kept us safe; I miss him and wish that his four years go fast so as to minimize the damage the one is going to do to this country.

Venezuelan for Bush
