Video: Beloved president gets rousing ovation at basketball game

posted at 4:33 pm on January 29, 2009 by Allahpundit

It’s in Waco, granted, but after eight years of Bush Derangement Syndrome culminating in boos at The One’s inauguration, any moment of appreciation is a sweet one.

Dude, are we sure Texas is a blue state? Click the image to watch.

No Allah, you’re the one that overreacts and automatically thinks Texas is a blue state simply because of party ID. I live in Ohio and regardless of what the morons happen to say or think, Ohio isn’t even a blue state.

Nice to have you home, George. There are about 30 million Texas militia who have your back. Sit back and relax. It’ll take more then Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna to storm these walls.

Yes, but just look at Obama since last spring. In a year, he’ll look like Lincoln did just before he died.

Let’s not forget–both of Obama’s parents died at relatively young ages. And he’s been a smoker? Chat up his workout routine all you want. The public thought JFK was the picture of health. Yeah, right.

Good for Bush.

And you can tell they look tired and exhausted. Heck I’ve noticed that President Obama has gotten more gray hair and that’s probably just from two years of campaigning.

terryannonline on January 29, 2009 at 4:55 PM

He looks older, but relaxed and a little slimmer than in recent years.

As for Texas being a blue state, riiiiiiiiight. That’ll happen never. Like any big state, there are blue areas. Hell, Houston alone has blue patches like the Heights and Montrose. But overall this a conservative state and it will remain so as long as the U.S.A. is around.

Go Bears! I went there for two years and even watched the Towers fall there, glued to my TV for all but two classes (none of mine were canceled). Many of us were a little afraid being so close to Crawford.

The girls basketball team was the only decent sports team we had, so it’s fitting he went to one of their games.

And yeah, I’m not so surprised Texas could go completely blue. Austin isn’t so weird anymore by our standards.

The “overseas” reaction he would get in those places would make this reaction look like a polite golf clap.

I understand your point (re the reactions in countries freed from tyranny during Bush’s administration), but I still disagree with you about the weight that should be placed on foreigners’ feelings about former (or current) presidents. I’ve traveled for business overseas during both Gulf Wars and worked with many foreign nationals — not exactly our heydays of global popularity — whether the U.S. is popular or not with the rank and file citizens is irrelevant.

In any event, I suspect the issue is moot. Unlike Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton, President Bush is unlikely to spend a lot of time globe-trotting seeking approval from a bunch of foreigners.

Y-not on January 29, 2009 at 5:14 PM

Most of us realize that Massachusetts is a different state and that no matter where an American was born, we still get a choice in the place we call home.

It’s not news that Bush adopted Texas as his home state. We didn’t forget that Clinton isn’t a native New Yorker either. Doesn’t mean she’s going to go back to Arkansas any time soon without being forced to, and Chicago is too tainted even for a Clinton these days.

Esthier on January 29, 2009 at 5:22 PM

Maybe it’s just because I’m in the Clear Lake area of Houston, but I know a lot more conservatives than liberals. But I haven’t found liberals to be an overwhelming majority anywhere that I’ve visited in TX, other than Austin.

And if someone could find it, the reception that 41 and 43 received at the Texas A&M graduation in December was pretty sweet, too.
