Limbaugh: “I think bipartisanship’s a joke”

posted at 2:15 pm on January 29, 2009 by Allahpundit

Six minutes of contentious chitchat from CNBC about his stimulus proposal. Well, contentious between him and the male anchor; between Rush and Burnett, it was and is all good. She, at least, understands the point he was trying to make about wanting Obama to fail: It’s not that he has something against The One, it’s that he thinks liberal policies will steer the country into a ditch. All our savior has to do to get him to join the cult is reject them. Think it’ll happen?

Don’t look now but the public’s having a momentary crisis of faith in economic Hopenchange. Exit question: Now that Limbaugh’s getting into policymaking, does he have any ideas about how to finance TARP II? All we need is $2 trillion.

Update: Finally, something he and Pelosi agree on.

Blowback

“When you can’t win on policy, you always turn to process, and then you turn to personalities,” Pelosi said.

And then you get an unqualified empty suit jacka$$ for president. Just great.

MNDavenotPC on January 29, 2009 at 2:21 PM

From the $2 Trillion link:

See how TARP funds break down by state, plus review details on participating institutions.

I didn’t read the whole story, but they -forced- banks to take TARP funds, even if they didn’t want them. So a state by state breakdown is irrelevant.

Today Barry O’Hopenchange learned never to call out Rush. The hard way. It’s always fun to watch when they learn the hard way. By calling him out he made him relevant and now he’s all over the news.

It’s going to be a fun yet depressing 4 years.

Nancy Pelosi only understands her pay and owe sheet. “Bipartisan” to her means doing as your told. After all, “We won, we wrote the bill (legislation).” Smooth Nancy, real smooth. And when it fails honey, you’re gonna be stuck with it in the briar patch.

I could barely watch that clip due to that wheedling little mutt groaning and moaning every time Rush dared to defend himself. I love how he was breathless and stuttering and fumbling at the end, only able to end up with “well, how come you weren’t like this 4 years ago Rush?”, when the economy WASN’T in the tank, I might add.

Fatty boy is a douche. “Being in the minority suddenly stimulates bipartisanship” my a$$.
NBC is a tool & they just gave Rush all the needed publicity to get his point across.
Obama is a socialist & the “minority” of like 46% vs 54% is not a minority.
It’s almost 50-50 & that means a lot when you hold the ‘majority’ of the power.
That means you are pi$$ing off half of the country bcs you are too egotistical to don the best for EVERYONE, not just those who voted for you.
Fatty sure choked out his agreement on the corporate tax cut-bet he was against it last week!

I sent a long email to my senators and to Mitch McConnell. I included this quote from yesterday that someone found at The Corner:

Rep. Virginia Foxx (R., N.C.): “I am glad that this vote demonstrated bipartisan opposition to the bill, instead of bipartisan support.”

I told them that is what I want to see in the Senate.

Rush is being Rush on his “so called” recovery plan but it still beats Obama’s by a mile. At least half of it would work. That would basically save a half a trillion. With the new president and the new congress it seems like a little over half the country went insane at the same time.

Rush’ position really doesn’t take a rocket scientist to parse and understand. After all, the Dems were so fond of saying how much they “supported” the troops, but didn’t support the war, their “mission.” In fact Dems and Obama not only didn’t “support the war,” in fact, they so didn’t support it that most of knew they wanted America to fail in Iraq.

Two things

One, as noted in another thread, our local radio station has opened a phone line to call and leave messages on the “Stimulus” Bill. Few appear to be buying.

Second, I wonder if The One needs the market to go up, he will float that rumor that the government is going to buy bad assets, again. And how many times can he play that game? Because it sure isn’t loving the passing of the bill.

How about two trillion Zimbabwean dollars. No one said anything about them having to be US dollars. And if 2T in Zimbabwean $ = $1.50 US, so much the better. I’d rather a short sharp recession where we eat a lot of debt rather than a prolonged shallower one.

“Being in the minority suddenly stimulates bipartisanship”

The leftists are the ones who kept saying the country was divided 4 years ago — now they’re saying the country is united, even though Obama won by 2 percentage points more than Bush.

This is hogwash — people are pissed about this spending, particularly when it involves pork and not job creation.

For all his faults, and for as horrible a Presidental candidate as he was, McCain truly is as bipartisan as you can get and still have a party affiliation. I may not like the guy, but I will give him that. I think he believes what he does is the best for the country. He’s completely misguided about a lot of things, but I don’t think he’s dishonest.

On the other hand, to Nancy Botoxi and the rest of the clowns in the current majority (and yes, I include the Boy Emperor President in that statement), “bipartisan” means “Do things our way or get left out of the process.”

Bipartisanship by itself is neither good nor bad. There are certainly times when it is desirable. If both parties actually agree on something, that’s the right kind of bipartisanship. Being able to have dinner together after arguing over a bill is bipartisanship.
It isn’t it’s own goal, though.

Certainly there was nothing bipartisan about this particular bill. It was created by and for Democrats, and bipartisanship was requested as a way to get Republicans to go along with something they didn’t want.

How do we know this? The left is livid today with Republicans for not being ‘bipartisan’ for Obama- when the bill passed. It passed! It passed easily. How in the world can the lack of Republican votes matter to them in any way? The only answers are political.

The last things the libs want is proof that tax cuts work.

Here is some proof:

http://www.house.gov/jec/fiscal/tx-grwth/reagtxct/reagtxct.htm

The Reagan tax cuts, like similar measures enacted in the 1920s and 1960s, showed that reducing excessive tax rates stimulates growth, reduces tax avoidance, and can increase the amount and share of tax payments generated by the rich. High top tax rates can induce counterproductive behavior and suppress revenues, factors that are usually missed or understated in government static revenue analysis. Furthermore, the key assumption of static revenue analysis that economic growth is not affected by tax changes is di sproved by the experience of previous tax reduction programs. There is little reason to expect static revenue analysis to evaluate the economic or distributional effects of current tax reform proposals much better than it evaluated the Reagan tax program 15 years ago.

Again that link was

Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres did not work.

Bipartisanship? Under the bus!

Here comes that flinty Chicago toughness:

WASHINGTON (AFP) – After a failed “charm offensive,” US President Barack Obama and his allies unleashed a hard-hitting campaign Thursday to break defiant Republicans’ thus-far united opposition to his economic stimulus plan.

The strategy called for millions of labor union members to telephone Republicans from hard-hit states, coupled with an aggressive television advertising campaign targeting potentially vulnerable Republican senators.
The ad featured Obama’s warnings about the economic crisis he inherited from George W. Bush and invited viewers in Maine, New Hampshire, Alaska, and Iowa to tell their senators “support the Obama plan for jobs not the failed policies of the past,” according to the script.

And the White House did not deny a report by Politico.com that it planned a state-by-state effort, highlighting job losses, to pressure lawmakers on the stimulus plan.

to buy only my own lemonaid
3. I get my laywer to sue anyone who disagrees with my decrees (its for your own good)
4. After i am audited i hire a tax cheat to re-work my books
so i am loosing money this month
5. I fire all of my american employees
6. i hire in 1 illegal for the lemonaid stand
7. I publish a news release about how i created 1 job
8. blame my predecessor for the other 14 layoffs.
9. i get acorn to sign this guy up to vote for me
10. all the other laid off workers only GET health insurance and unemployment if IF

they learn their lesson and only vote for me..
then they might get a job
When the illegal dies in 30 years..

Dont laugh i saw this inNJ 25 years ago
and i just went back and i swear to you
Not only are the tollbooths in the road in the same position and the same color as i saw when i left

the same employee is still in the same boot.

“Bipartisanship” is no different than “precedent.”

The former is an excuse for spineless politicians lacking resolve to take a responsible stand. The latter is an excuse for spineless judges and shysters to say don’t blame them blame an earlier (even if whacked out) ruling. Hence the convenient, Clintonesque “They all do it” excuse whenever Clinton jumps the hired help, Rangel cheats the tax man or Wm. Jefferson keeps the bribes in his Capitol office freezer.

I mentioned this on another thread, but it bears repeating.

This White House political operation is in for a big surprise if they think there are vulnerable House Republicans they can go after over this vote. There aren’t. Rahm Emanuel made sure of that over the last two cycles, spending millions to defeat moderates like Sue Kelly and Chris Shays, and urban Republicans like Anne Northup. The Republicans that survived the last two elections are as safe as you can get. Any they have no need, philosophically or politically, to give Obama or especially Nancy Pelosi any political cover. Obama is going to get a lot of “talk to the hand” from them, and he had better get used to it.

The Senate is a different story, of course.

rockmom on January 29, 2009 at 3:59 PM

A fair number of CEOs have been hired mostly for their public relations rather than business management skills.

Consider Jeffrey Immelt of GE whose green PR campaign and various other touchy-feely diversions have seriously damaged that company. Similar thing happened several years back to Kodak when they wanted their CEO to merely look diverse instead of competent. Same thing happened to Hewlett-Packard where the shakedown from their recent diversity-socialite squabble continues behind closed doors. And, of course, there’s the government protected CEO hacks like Franklin Raines and Jamie Gorelick who looted Fannie / Freddie and are laughing all the way to the bank at their political immunity from penalty.

On second thought, that probably IS what they teach in “journalism” school.

The ‘founding fathers’ wanted partisanship. They wanted the representatives of different views to argue and fight over bills before they were passed or rejected.

My only regret is they didn’t require the members of the House to vote on each piece of legislation by all the parties having a ‘Shootout’ in front of the Capital Building.

I would be willing to bet that the Congress would have told Obama to stick S-Chip and all the other spending bills where the ‘sundon’tshine’.

Haines is one of legacy CNBC clowns who think they are the show and he’s the smartest guy in the room. He’s never wrong about anything and everyone must answer to him.
He’s basically an even stupider version of Bill O’Rielly

Obama has opened a Pandora’s Box by going after Rush, and now he will feel the consequences.

Watch for Obama to take the HAMAS road and ask for a cease fire so he can regroup…

Watch for Obama to head for Hawaii for a vacation.

The male CNBC anchor, Mark Haines, is a lazy, cud-chewing cow who is a shill for the Democratic Party, and therefore fits right in at CNBC.

Notice how much more interesting the interview becomes when Haines shuts his worthless pie-hole.

jay12 on January 29, 2009 at 4:05 PM

I have to watch cnbc to do my work. You’ve described Haines perfectly. When he comes on, I turn it off. He’s like seeing Geraldo Rivera on Fox. Instant off.

Again we see the leftist’s form of jingoism where everything is just hunky-dory, as long as the left can make the rules. Leftists scream about wanting bi-partisanship until they actually have to support something they don’t like, i.e. supporting out troops, or loving the U.S., it’s more of the same from the left; “We want the country to succeed, but only if WE are in charge!” Eight years of anti-America, Bush Derangement Syndrome, has left Democrats in the toilet; if you believe a SINGLE word that Democrats say, you need your head examined.

Democrats have learned well from the propaganda handbook….The FIRST rule of propaganda being;
“People will believe a lie if they are afraid it is true or they want it to be true.”

Asked about Rush Limbaugh and Matt Drudge’s campaigning against the plan, she responded, “I don’t speak to that. I am the Speaker of the House. I don’t get into that”

But they are the gop leadership speaker.

A blog owner and a radio personality.

Hilarious.

A racist, socialist “community organizer” with a shady past who through affirmative action got “selected” for everything including a Senate seat. That’s who she bows to today.

Bipartisanship is the simulated sex of the post ideological era.

moxie_neanderthal on January 29, 2009 at 5:15 PM

“But Rush, where were you 4 years ago?” “But Rush, you’re a hypocrite.” But Rush….blah…blah… obfuscate….lie, etc. etc.

Another terrific illustration for my policy of non-involvement in MSM media. Conservatives, shut them out!!!!!!

We don’t need these jackasses, we have other places to go to get our message to the people.

Joe Pyne on January 29, 2009 at 5:19 PM

These talk radio hosts have tens of millions of listeners, and have never made anything of it. They need to build a mass movement. Not of Republicans or Conservatives, or do-do heads that listen to talk radio or Fox …that’s NOT the answer. The answer is to build a brand new mass movement with a completely clean slate. With patriotic, God-fearing, Bible-believing, Americans to build this country – because as you read this, at this very moment, the political elite are destroying it. Americans know that we’re going in the wrong direction. Americans are hungry for answers! They urgently want new leadership. They urgently want new hope. You wanna save America and take America back, Rush? COMPLETELY CHANGE THE STATUS QUO and build a mass movement. Then you’ll help the silent majority of this country and begin putting this country back on the right track.

First week in office the President picks a fight with Rush. First week in office pretty much chaos. Nothing he has done deserves praise of keeps America safe and solvent. No Republican votes for his Stimulus package. I’d say that this hasn’t been a very good week. But we could see it coming when he had his first press conference after the election. Didn’t go well there either. I don’t see much competence in this person. He is in way over his head.

JiangxiDad on January 29, 2009 at 4:35 PM

Exactly what happens in this home also. Any of us hear Geraldo’s voice, and the channel gets switched immediately.

Pelosi pushed this bill through Congress before the 600+ pages could be thoroughly digested by pundits of any type, therefore the American people could not stand in the way. Earlier today, Rasmussen came out with some numbers that are very revealing; the approval numbers on this pork bill have fallen from 56% approval, to 42% approval. The people are paying attention and the approval rating will only drop further as more and more people find out the facts about this absolute rip-off of the American tax payer. I just found out today, that millions of our dollars were tucked away in the back of this pork bill for illegal alien benefits. Yep, that’s right folks! This is not a stimulus bill, this is an attempt to pay back every Liberal operation that Obama-Democrats owe for the hundreds of millions raised for Obama and other Democrats, and a method to create enough voters dependent upon government as to assure certain Democrat victories for decades to come.

How freakin dirty can these people get! It’s all about power at any cost. I hate these people with every fiber in my body….
