“It’s clear the Republicans who voted against the stimulus represent constituents who will be stunned to learn their member of Congress voted against [saving or] creating 4 million jobs,” the aide said.

Perhaps they should offer something that would be appealing instead of offending. Perhaps a deep tax cut that also enacts a Patriot Employer act?

Republicans need to begin the derailment process by ticking off the non-stimulus portions of the pork bill. Condoms and std prevention would be a good start. Perot-esque charts and graphs are a good way to begin to underscore the size of this can of pork. Why is our side not putting a message in front of the press under the Capital rotunda every single day.

When the White House talks about corporate jets, Mike Pence needs to bring up Pelosi's personal aircraft. When Obama talks about corporate responsibility our side needs to talk about the responsibility of govt not to load more debt onto the backs of Americans.

I just watched Shelby talk in broad generalities about why the Democrat approach is the wrong approach. Technically correct but poorly communicated. It was like Bush 41 getting skunked in a debate with Bill Clinton because Bush talked in a disembodied way about how interest rates work while Clinton aced the question by talking about how it impacts the consumer on a personal level.

I suspect that resistance is only going to increase over time but we have only a short window in which we can force changes to the bill itself.

It is high time our side starts crafting a winning message. Now is the time to start staking out territory and laying down markers. I suspect that the general public is uneasy with this spending and would respond positively to articulate leadership. Obama’s support is not as widespread or as deep as many would have us all believe. It only takes an accumulation of missteps to begin the process of apply the brakes.

The Democrats just want to hang this wreath around the GOP necks so they can point at us when it fails... I sent a letter of congrats to my congressman and Boehner last night and made a donation to the RNCC. Also emailed my two senators and McConnell this morning to stand shoulder to shoulder with the GOP congress.

Didn’t the House Repubs turn down the original stimulus, then help pass it on the come-back? Look for that to happen again. They’ll say its better because they forced some small change, and then help pass it.

These banks received bailout funds therefore ANY bonuses awarded at the end of the year came from taxpayer money. It doesn’t matter how money came in, they claimed they needed 700 billion dollars. It seems they actually needed 18 billion less than that, which might have gone towards the stimulus or not been added to the defecit. This is 100% WRONG.

I don’t think you even watch these networks, with the exception of MSNBC anchors do not repeat DNC talking points. They’ve been very skeptical of things on CNBC as well as CNN. Now have they asked hard quesations of GOP on, of course, but they are giving them tons more airtime than they are Dems. There just isn’t really a response to that.

When you can think of an example of a “fat leftist beauracrat” enriching his/herself to the tune of 18 billion dollars in one year you might have a claim of moral equivalency..

DeathToMediaHacks on January 29, 2009 at 2:46 PM

Phew...where to start. First off there is not ONE individual who enriched themselves to 18B, they were referring to an undisclosed number of financial companies.

Also there is no proof that they used taxpayer money, and if they didn't then it is none of your business. Bereaucrat's on the other had survive solely on taxpayer extorted money with no threat of penalty for misuse. They waste the money they simply raise taxes to get more.

Concerning waste of taxpayer money by governmnet; there is not enough room in this textbox to show it all.

Write letters to the editor about how the $850 billion plus there is only $40 billion for actual infrastructure building/rebuilding. LESS THAN 5%!!!!

The bill to be voted on today includes $30 billion for roads and bridges, $9 billion for public transit and $1 billion for inter-city rail -- less than 5 percent of the package's total spending. Administration officials have said they did not push for more infrastructure spending because of concerns about how many projects are "shovel ready" -- a view that House members say is held most strongly by Lawrence H. Summers, Obama's chief economic adviser.

I don't think you even watch these networks, with the exception of MSNBC anchors do not repeat DNC talking points. They've been very skeptical of things on CNBC as well as CNN. Now have they asked hard quesations of GOP on, of course, but they are giving them tons more airtime than they are Dems. There just isn't really a response to that.

I have no love for any of the corporate media, it’s nice to see that Fox is doing some balance. But if you accept that conclusion then you must also accept that GOP reps are outnumbering Dem by 2-1 on this issue. Seems the problem is not that the media is biased against conservative voices, it’s that those voices aren’t pushing the stories YOU think are most important, i.e. this illegal immigrants getting stimulus money thing.

Concerning the 2 to 1 claim. I assume they are not counting the Democrats doing the interviewing since the media anchors simply echo DNC talking points?

So when a fat leftist entrenched bereaucrat wastes millions of taxpayer money is just the cost of government, but when fat white wall street do it, it is RAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGEEEEE!

When you can think of an example of a "fat leftist beauracrat" enriching his/herself to the tune of 18 billion dollars in one year you might have a claim of moral equivalency. I mean even the worst Dem corruption might be what, a million bucks here or there. These guys were paid 8-9 figures in bonuses while they had their hand out for taxpayer help. There's nothing like it on the other side. Not even close. Which is why it's not a headline here.

Because Tim Geithner’s confirmation is as important as a balanced perspective on the economic recovery plan and the American people’s access to more than GOP talking points? OK whatever. There’s no way around it. As usual the MSM is allowing the GOP to decide the terms of the debate and the networks you claim to hate the most, CNN et al are the ones giving them the largest platforms.

Yeah cheating on your taxes and not even getting a slap on the wrist is simply a GOP talking point. This same media that wont even report the laughable details of this political payback package until right wing blogs do the legwork on it and Drudge puts in on the front page?

Oh and notice how they give Faux News the most credit for being "fair and balanced"...ouch...that must sting.

Hey did you guys enjoy that hard hitting expose by the totally objective media about stimulus money going to illegal...err...undocumented workers? I think I saw it on MSNBC first.

Oops...actually it was right wing hate news source....breitbart. I am sure the falsley accused objective media will pick it up eventually and make it a daily meme like Bush's illegal war, torture, and failure on the economy. Right?
