In conservative Nevada, they know where money should get spent — in casinos, where the wealth really gets spread around, and not by government bureaucracies.

Population-wise, Nevada is dominated by Las Vegas. People don’t spend money on gambling and shows and vacations unless they have EXTRA money beyond what they need to live. Over here in Connecticut, suddenly our two Native American tribes, owners of casinos in eastern Connecticut, are singing the blues because casino “revenues” are down 15%, but unlike Nevada, Connecticut does have other industries.
You’ve got to have jobs ELSEWHERE in the national economy before people are willing to spend money on gambling.

All that glitz and glitter in Las Vegas needs ELECTRICITY to keep it glowing–where does it come from? Not California, which consumes more than it produces because of environmental restrictions on power plants, not no-nukes Nevada where Dingy Harry won’t open Yucca Mountain.

IMHO, a Republican candidate can beat Reid by stressing the need for energy and electricity to run Las Vegas, in favor of offshore drilling and nuclear power plants, as well as diversifying Nevada’s economy away from reliance on tourism and gambling. When America sneezes, Las Vegas gets pneumonia, and whoever wins Vegas wins Nevada. Exit question: Which Republican candidate can win Vegas?

I think the stimulus package is more about politics than the economy right now…but I don’t think the crisis is made up. It is real. The media is hyping it like they do everything else, but there are real problems out there.

I don’t think going after Reid on the initial bailout is effective, people did not want to see banks collapse and with leaders all over the world reacting in much the same way I think that was not really partisan.

However, this current stimulus bill is. It is one thing to put liquidity into financial markets, it is another to spend a trillion dollars on projects that may not even help. It is just too much debt.

(yes, I’m being sarcastic)

Let’s hope Republicans remain more successful than Democrats in these endeavors.

How do Dems justify condoms as a means of cutting costs? The people to who they’re supposedly directed won’t use them anyway.

Beyond that, how can $4.2 billion to ACORN for “neighborhood stabilization activities” (whatever the hell that is) be rationalized?

Every item of this package needs to identified and explained before one vote is cast and one dollar spent. The stakes are too high to allow it to be a vehicle for paying back Obama’s vast array of constituents.
