NRSC ad: “Trillion”

The NRSC returns to the airwaves, or at least the webwaves, with a new 30-second spot targeting Harry Reid, who will have to defend his Senate seat in November. In conservative Nevada, they know where money should get spent — in casinos, where the wealth really gets spread around, and not by government bureaucracies. The NRSC wants to remind them who the big government spender in the Senate is:
Super-spending partisan, Harry Reid. As Democrat Leader, he helped pay for vicious attack ads criticizing last year’s bailout.
But guess who voted for the $700 billion bailout. You guessed it — Harry Reid.
And now he wants a trillion more dollars in new spending? A trillion dollars??
Tell Harry Reid to stop wasting our hard earned money.
It’s a good ad, except for the minor nitpick about Reid being “partisan”. A “Democrat leader” is by nature a partisan, and the word “partisan” isn’t an epithet. Would that Republicans act a little more partisan in defense of free markets and smaller government! Had they done so in 2001, Harry Reid would be Minority Leader and no one would be talking about massive economic crises and bailouts wouldn’t be required.
It’s pretty early to start running ads for the 2010 election cycle, but it’s not a deep investment for the NRSC. This looks like payback for the hard press Democrats made against Mitch McConnell, which was itself partisan payback for the big Republican effort in unseating Tom Daschle. Let’s hope Republicans remain more successful than Democrats in these endeavors.

Could have fooled me, Ed! Didn’t Obama just trounce McCain partly on the strength of lying about his rabid partisanship? Isn’t “bipartisanship” one of the great, lofty goals to which we are all supposed to aspire?

Congress is attempting to help save our economy.
In this time of crisis, Americans will be glad to see campaign commercials.
Good work.
e-pirate on January 28, 2009 at 8:17 AM
With this pork-laden “stimulus” package, the only thing they’re trying to save is their reelections.
Anyone know who might stand as good Republican competition against Reid? I know nothing of Nevada party politics, so toss out a few names if you know them. I’d be curious to find out.
Pope Linus on January 28, 2009 at 8:21 AM
When Dems say “bipartisanship”, it means agreement with their ideas. Bipartisanship is highly overrated.
By proposing a massive spending bill, precisely what they did last fall with the bailout – and which failed dismally to help the economy.
Bigfoot on January 28, 2009 at 8:25 AM
As long as you buy into this “crisis” they have the power to do anything. This is a strategy not a fact.

Congress is attempting to help save our economy.
One half at least. The other? Making sure ACORN is fed and that global warming “awareness” is properly funded.
Libs, gotta love ‘em.

Harry Reid’s seat may fall when up for reelection.
That would almost make up for the Franken debacle.

It will indeed be a bittersweet “I Told Ya So”
I hate to see our country have to go broke in order to quash socialism, but sometimes drastic measures are necessary. Stock up on canned goods & ammo.

Obambi is at 62%-36% (approve/disapprove) according to Rasmussen. Day before the coronation it was 67/30. Only one week and already 6% of the people have woken up to the nightmare that this man represents.

I say that’s positive news. These ads have to start running 24/7 for the next 3 weeks before the final bailout/stimulus/pork bill is voted on.

CBO report from Michelle’s site:
…Brand new programs pose additional challenges. Developing procedures and criteria, issuing the necessary regulations, and reviewing plans and proposals would make distributing money quickly even more difficult—as can be seen, for example, in the lack of any disbursements to date under the loan programs established for automakers last summer to invest in producing energy-efficient vehicles. Throughout the federal government, spending for new programs has frequently been slower than expected and rarely been faster. Link
The Senate should insist that EVERY new program put into this bill MUST sunset in two years. It will take more than a year for these new programs to even get thru the bureaucratic setup. Stimulus my @ss.

This is no joke; most of the country is doing just that. I have Democrats in my family that have done so as well. Buyers remorse is going on with much of my left leaning family members already. I don’t understand this dynamic, but what really pissed off most of my left leaning family members, was Obama’s choosing of Hillary for Sec. of State. Seems to be some deep resentment for the Clinton’s with the left of center folks. I’ll wait for the rest of the “awareness” phase to settle in before I remind them of just how stupid-ignorant-pathetic every one of them are.
I’m not real popular in my family anyway, might just as well keep the “love fest” alive and well!

Brian Krolicki is Nevada’s current Lt. Governor and had made a statement about running against dirty Harry and then all of a sudden he is up on indictment for mishandling of funds while he was the the state treasurer. Here is more.

DOPE-alert.
Congress cannot make, or even save, a free economy, you nit wit. It can, however, turn a free market into a socialist market. Sound good to you, skippy?

I hope they also run ads about his crooked sweetheart deals & his “the war is lost” foolishness.

that ad was dumb
either attack the guy for being a big spender or a hypocrit. trying to do both in 30 seconds loses its effectiveness.

I called my congressman at his local number here in NJ. He is a gasbag lib so I am sure he’ll vote his (lack of) “conscience” on this issue.
I don’t think a pork laden swill of a bill will save anything. I hope the GOP votes no and dems abandon the mess in shame.
clnurnberg on January 28, 2009 at 9:32 AM
Good point Rovin… Reality is, my family members all came to see our new location here in Montana a few years back; haven’t heard much from any of them since. Unfortunately, most of them are long time union (construction) workers in No. Cal… Your back yard if I remember correctly. These folks vote Democrat simply because they were brainwashed at every union meeting for their entire careers. Closed minded robots; but hey, they are the only family members I have. When we gather, we agree not to discuss politics, and I always stick to my promise and they never do.
Typical Democrat; all emotion with no substance!
Keemo on January 28, 2009 at 9:33 AM
How do Dems justify condoms as a means of cutting costs? The people to who they’re supposedly directed won’t use them anyway.
Beyond that, how can $4.2 billion to ACORN for “neighborhood stabilization activities” (whatever the hell that is) be rationalized?
Every item of this package needs to identified and explained before one vote is cast and one dollar spent. The stakes are too high to allow it to be a vehicle for paying back Obama’s vast array of constituents.
BuckeyeSam on January 28, 2009 at 9:49 AM
Meh. I wouldn’t mind flushing Mousy Mitch along with Dingy Harry.
Kid from Brooklyn on January 28, 2009 at 10:28 AM
But didn’t Obama promise to go through every spending package “line by line” and take out all the unnecessary and wasteful programs?
I mean, come on, he promised. So we are safe in Dear Leader’s Hands.
Right?
(yes, I’m being sarcastic)

Congress is attempting to pay off their stupid voters. The Soviet Union used to do this, and then they ran out of money.
tarpon on January 28, 2009 at 10:56 AM
I could never understand how Reid could be that successful a politician, the man has no personality.
I think the stimulus package is more about politics than the economy right now…but I don’t think the crisis is made up. It is real. The media is hyping it like they do everything else, but there are real problems out there.
I don’t think going after Reid on the initial bailout is effective, people did not want to see banks collapse and with leaders all over the world reacting in much the same way I think that was not really partisan.
However, this current stimulus bill is. It is one thing to put liquidity into financial markets, it is another to spend a trillion dollars on projects that may not even help. It is just too much debt.

Population-wise, Nevada is dominated by Las Vegas. People don’t spend money on gambling and shows and vacations unless they have EXTRA money beyond what they need to live. Over here in Connecticut, suddenly our two Native American tribes, owners of casinos in eastern Connecticut, are singing the blues because casino “revenues” are down 15%, but unlike Nevada, Connecticut does have other industries.
You’ve got to have jobs ELSEWHERE in the national economy before people are willing to spend money on gambling.
All that glitz and glitter in Las Vegas needs ELECTRICITY to keep it glowing–where does it come from? Not California, which consumes more than it produces because of environmental restrictions on power plants, not no-nukes Nevada where Dingy Harry won’t open Yucca Mountain.
IMHO, a Republican candidate can beat Reid by stressing the need for energy and electricity to run Las Vegas, in favor of offshore drilling and nuclear power plants, as well as diversifying Nevada’s economy away from reliance on tourism and gambling. When America sneezes, Las Vegas gets pneumonia, and whoever wins Vegas wins Nevada. Exit question: Which Republican candidate can win Vegas?

I received this from a friend last night. If you want to see the clip, you should do so quickly. I don’t think it will be up for long.
“THE FORBIDDEN Saturday Night Live SKIT
SNL did a “Bailout” skit, which has created some rather awkward problems for NBC. They spiked the video and tried to shut it down on the Internet. But aha, there’s still some sites that have it.
http://msunderestimated.com/SNLBailoutSkit.wmv
Very startling to see Saturday Night Live absolutely nail the history and culprits of the Big Bailout. No wonder the powers at NBC pulled the skit. Through impersonations they present stark truth, perhaps one of the most surprising presentations almost allowed on NBC.”
Thanks to my girl, Sandy.
