Allahpundit asks:
[Exit question: How do you out-organize an incumbent who built the most fearsome national organization in modern political history?]

There's an old saying I heard, "you can't solve a problem until you realize that you actually have a problem". And that describes the GOP perfectly. They're in extreme denial and in a dead-run away from the truth. Every analysis they commission is "spun" to get the result that they want. To keep the well entrenched power brokers solid in their position. ITS ALL ABOUT PROTECTING TURF wherever you go. Whether its conservative political commentators or party officials. ALL ABOUT PROTECTING THEIR LITTLE PATCH OF TURF.
No, Allahpundit, there's no chance for the GOP until they confront the problem. And the results of that problem? They continue to drive millions of former GOP voters away. You can "organize" until the cows come home. Its not going to help. GOP voters are about principle. If you speak truth they will respond positively. If you try to mix truth/lies, the Base will run from the stench! Darvin Dowdy

They don't include Arizona yet we have a GOP Governor, two senators, a majority of congressmen and increased the GOP legislature and senate in November. WHO took this survey anyway?

Perhaps those Michiganders have not lost their way, or found it again.

They finally woke up and saw that they'd no longer be able buy Detroit metal if they didn't support him.

Will the GOP learn a DAMNED thing from this? NOT LIKELY. When you run idiots like McCain it hurts the WHOLE COUNTRY. Who's next? Romney? If Romney is nominated it'll be down to 4 states.
The GOP needs to stop the Cranial-Rectal Inversion.

Not voting for McCain and either voting for Obama or letting him win was just stupid for anyone who calls himself a conservative.

Terrye on January 29, 2009 at 1:51 PM

There have been some analyses done, I think by Jay Cost et al, that 6-8 million conservative voters stayed home in 2008. All I have is anecdotal evidence of hundreds of voters who said that 'McCain was almost as much democrat, so why vote?' I couldn't put up much of an argument against that, outside of the pro-life one. Most of the stay at homes were economic conservatives, so that didn't play. Looking at the poll numbers, the market decline was not the shift point, the bailout vote was.

Haven’t you noticed that suddenly EVERYBODY started wearing Texas Longhorn shirts after they got to #1 in 2005?
I’m a Longhorn alumni, and I saw those things all over the state, from end to end. Before then, Longhorn hats and shirts were quite rare out in the boonies.

As a former Texan I do remember that & in fact, there are kids wearing that stuff up here in ND & when I ask them who they wearing, they have no CLUE.

If taking an hour once every 2 years to vote is too much to ask for, then conservatism deserves to die.

I’m in Texas and I’ve been noticing the last few days that I have seen more Obama bumper stickers after the election than I ever did before. I think it’s the bandwagon effect. When the economy gets to Jimmy Carter levels, there will be a whole different bandwagon.

Vashta:

I don't think that is true.

If most people were that upset with the bank bail out, Obama would not be president today.

Not voting for McCain and either voting for Obama or letting him win was just stupid for anyone who calls himself a conservative. The bank bail out was a lot different than this current bill. If they had not passed that and banks all over the country had failed, the economy would have gotten worse immediately. I doubt very much if that would have helped Republicans.

partisan trends can shift very rapidly, so if the crap sandwich is as crappy as we think, the map will surely be redder by 2012

Redder as in bloodbath for democrats, IMO

I just spent half an hour on the telephone with a Rebublican call-bank guy who was soliciting contributions. Apparently last month's request that they remove my name from their lists has not been honored.

Apparently they have a programmed routine where they start out asking for, say, $700, then listen, then ask for $600, then listen some more, then bump it down to $500 and so on. I gave this poor guy an earful. I imagine he might have heard a little bit of it - "betrayed," "country club elites," "keep your atheists and homosexuals," "never again," "third party" - things like that. But, God bless him, he stuck to the script and listened all the way down to $100.

Yeah, I know that they did good in congress with the stimulus package yesterday, but I don't care. People only get to work me over so many times before the promises of a bright shiney different tomorrow don't cut it anymore, and the Republican Party is way over the limit. I'd vote for Palin if she ran as an independent, but not if she ran as a Republican. I'm done.

I think too many of us Reds are demoralized, too busy working, etc to go vote. There are MORE of us, but not enough that actually vote.

If taking an hour once every 2 years to vote is too much to ask for, then conservatism deserves to die.

Exit question: How do you out-organize an incumbent who built the most fearsome national organization in modern political history?

Why the bloody hell are you giving Obama all the credit?!?!

With the MSM as deeply in the tank as they were (and are), Obama had multiple built-in arrays of selling teams and propagandists with cameras and microphones in tow. He did not have to do one blessed thing to have them put in place. Just read a few pages of Bernie Goldberg's new book, and you quickly get a sense of just how pervasive the jounalistic activism was in 2008. It is downright nauseating.

And what about ACORN? I say they can be "out-organized" by being placed behind bars, where they belong. Not that this is likely with their main Benefactor-in-Chief ensconsed comfortably within the Oval Office.

I am a conservative (in the classical liberal sense - read: in the spirit of Samuel Adams) that has not been registered as a Republican in years.

The poll is junk.

Exit question: How do you out-organize an incumbent who built the most fearsome national organization in modern political history?

The opponent did not build a fearsome organiztion. The opponent built an organization that promised what a large group wanted to hear. Numbers are power

The GOP is not saying what conservatives want to hear. On the contrary, the GOP elites consistently castigate conservatives for not changing their wish list. This is a recipe for a failed party. Power is delegated by votes, and no one gives their proxy to an entity that does not represent their wishes.

The McCain election sucked up to people outside the party with moderate promises while waving a club at conservatives to vote or else. Meanwhile, the moderates being wooed would not be attracted to a party that contained so many conservative voices at the bottom demanding the conservative voice be heard.

Today we get a steady trickle of blame directed at GOP conservatives for scaring away moderates by being too religious, too conservative, by holding their own opinions dear

You can take a horse to water ....

The RINOs want the party voters but do not want to vote their way. Unfortunately they have a RINO track record that cannot be retracted

McCain/Palin still got over 40 percent. That is a lot of people for such a lousy candidate

I made a casual comment about North Carolina. My wife saw something that the same thing happened there. An outflow of democraps from the disease ridden cities into the once red areas is causing the problem.

I don’t know how to stop that. These morons just don’t see that the reason they had to flee was the bankrupt philosophy that they continue to support.

States WA,CO,ID can also be added. I lived in those states & fled everytime the nutbags came in.
You are right. They really fleeing from the infested cities to the rural red areas.
They create the same mess they left & wonder why things are bad.
But Dems vote in huge #s.
I think too many of us Reds are demoralized, too busy working, etc to go vote. There are MORE of us, but not enough that actually vote.
Big cities breed dependent welfare parasites (Dems).
I have seen it time & again.
But I don't believe any of these polls. They are full of errors & bias I am beyond caring about them.

I’m in Texas and I’ve been noticing the last few days that I have seen more Obama bumper stickers after the election than I ever did before. I think it’s the bandwagon effect. When the economy gets to Jimmy Carter levels, there will be a whole different bandwagon.
