Gallup: Just seven states left where GOP leads in party ID

posted at 9:50 pm on January 28, 2009 by Allahpundit

Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, Alaska, Nebraska, Kansas, and Alabama, and the last two are barely red. Total combined electoral votes: 35. The news isn’t quite as dismal as it seems — Texas is technically a blue state by this measure, even though it’s reliably red at election time — but eyeball the map at the link and note how many southern states are suddenly leaning Democratic. Jay Cost has a long, thoughtful post on how Republicans have traditionally overcome the ID advantage (hint: superior turnout and an uneasy coalition in the broad Democratic base), but toss a galvanizing figure like The One into the mix and it becomes a lot harder to pull off.

Cost’s other big point is that partisan trends can shift very rapidly, so if the crap sandwich is as crappy as we think, the map will surely be redder by 2012. Even so, I don’t envy whoever’s tasked with dethroning the Messiah. Exit question: How do you out-organize an incumbent who built the most fearsome national organization in modern political history?

And I don’t think this is a good way to judge how states will vote. There are a lot of pretty Red states not on that list, and once the hopenchangey feeling wears off, the list will expand.

Well, fearsome is right, but he hasn’t built jack, unless you consider the MSM, campaign finance fraud (that was so transparent anyone could see it, and experience it for themselves with the help of a little gift card and a funny name and address to donate under), and the dirtiest criminal racket in the voting business safely on his side.

Is that what you meant by the “fearsome national organization”?

progressoverpeace on January 28, 2009 at 9:55 PM

Who cares? They just won the election. Plus, every degenerate that is uninformed and on welfare identifies automatically as a Democrat. How many of them actually vote?

therightwinger on January 28, 2009 at 9:55 PM

How do you out-organize an incumbent who built the most fearsome national organization in modern political history?

I was going to answer “By obeying the law” but then I realized that didn’t apply to the dems.

Still, looking at the red/blue map by county I’m far more confident than this poll puts things. Those heavy urban areas (and the entire state of Wisconsin) are what carry the dems, and they are withering on the taxation vine.

Bishop on January 28, 2009 at 9:56 PM

It’s just a bad measurement. Like you said about Texas, look at where I’m from in KY for instance. We’re a solidly Democratic state that votes for Republican presidents senators.

Someone overlay that map with amount of social spending as a percentage of each states economy. There’s your answer.

ousoonerfan15 on January 28, 2009 at 9:58 PM

Nah, like “peak oil” you’re seeing “peak DNC” saturation. The tide turns now.

There’s a reverse corollary to the Pelosi/Obama good cop/bad cop situation that I thought the House Republicans might be running into…

If the Repulicans don’t play ball, Obama HAS to deal with Pelosi… that means they get joined at the hip. That anchors Obama’s tap dancing as a centrist and will limit his political maneuvering.

If the Reps can do that and hold off the legislation in the Senate… we might get through this dark knight with our wallets and country intact.

Doesn’t matter… we’re done as a nation. Election night brought me over to Allah’s pessimistic dark side, and this “stimulus” confirms what I’ve repeatedly said: America is finished, and will never recover. Pretty pathetic, really.

And just for fun, a question for Barry… Should we spend billions on global warming (which is a proven hoax), STDs, etc. etc. or should we rid ourselves of independent oil by using our own vast resources, which not only stops us from sending $700 billion overseas every year.. but it creates thousands and thousands of jobs for Americans and contributes to OUR OWN economy.

My wife was looking at the returns after the last election. We live in what was once a solid red county just outside a major city. The lower and middle parts of our county have been infiltrated with idiots from philadelphia who left philly because of 50 years of mismanagement by the donkies resulting in high crime, taxes, crummy neighborhoods and crooked politicians, judges deciding cases based on enveloped full of money from roofers etc..

So, what do they do?? These jacka$$e$ left and came to a solidly republican county.. Then they continue to pull the BIG D in the elections… SO, the county is slipping toward the D side.

Ditto for the really expensive properties just north of New Hope along the Delaware River. Those are multimillion dollar horse farms. What is happening there is that the New Yawkers are coming down to escape the crime, taxes and decay caused by a half century of democraptic rule.. And what do these geniuses do?? you guessed it, they pull the big D.

So, we are getting hit on both sided of the demographic scale.. The high end multimillionaires and the blue collar union types who could finally leave the shitty.. er city.

I made a casual comment about North Carolina. My wife saw something that the same thing happened there. An outflow of democraps from the disease ridden cities into the once red areas is causing the problem.

I don’t know how to stop that. These morons just don’t see that the reason they had to flee was the bankrupt philosophy that they continue to support.

Things are not nearly that gloomy. McCain ran the worst campaign in recent history and had nothing to offer but confusion and contradiction. There was absolutely no conservative enthusiasm except for the brief Palin spurt that McCain was able to cool like a large piece of dry ice. The Republicans need a powerful, intelligent and youthful conservative presidential candidate in 2012 and a stable full of tough, conservative congressional candidates. Political fortunes can turn on a dime and my guess is that they will.

I cited that tonight on my blog, in fact, to call out my normally Blue Dog DINO congressman, Dan Boren. Whom I expected to be among the eleven Dems. not voting for the stimulus bill today.
He’s voted mostly conservatively for three years already, but tonight, he let us all down, around here.

But two reasons for our overwhelming ‘Dem.’ registrations around here(myself included), is because of how the system of primary elections are set up here in Oklahoma.
The second reason is that we were all dumb once, at age 18.

The GOP’s problem has been and still is that there is no party building going on. The GOP rides waves of public sentiment and has no real strong sub groups other than Conservative Christians and wealthy Americans.

That makes the GOP unstable around election time and is the real reason the GOP cannot match Organized labor or NAACP or any other large subgroup of Democrats.

The GOP will never be completely competitive UNTIL it drops the elitist veiw that a small group can run campaigns all over the country.

The GOP MUST start spending money in expanding its membership and having a more solid organization that is more reliable in election times.

With out a solid foundation the GOP house is built on shaky ground.

There will be states such as Ohio and Michigan that will only get more blue.

Of course, they could try to not bludgeon their own citizens with using trade as a political weapon, ala Reagan and onward.

Those remaining states are just “middle of nowhere” red states. No real non-agricultral industry to speak of, sold out to some Third World country, or a low population density state.

I am actually glad to see this kind of report because I think it is going to be difficult to win the American people back and we need to run scared and work hard. We need a conservative direction, but don’t think that alone will do it.
