MSNBC anchor to Chip Saltsman: Stop blaming the media for the “Magic Negro” kerfuffle

From the network that’s “opened its heart to change,” watch how an interview magically turns into a lecture before your very eyes. Saltsman’s defense is lame, but we’ve hashed that out before; read Ace’s post last month about the difference in intent between David Ehrenstein’s LA Times op-ed and tittering at the word “Negro” in the song. Looks like Brewer knew he was going to go there and was waiting to spring her righteous indignance shtick; nice to see Megyn Kelly’s influence spreading to other networks, at least.

That’s just it. Those acting all offended, most of them haven’t even taken the time to listen to the lyrics or even study the phrase and its historical use. There is real social commentary in the parody, and it attacks really ignorant attitudes. Al Sharpton, supported by so many, is a slimeball racist with blood on his hands…yet he’s still taken seriously by the media and many in the black community.
People who are offended by this will be offended by anything, because taken in context with the social commentary it speaks of, it’s hardly offensive at all. If rap music today and the portrayal of blacks in American society through Hollywood and the music industry isn’t offensive, then this isn’t offensive.
The media does play a large role in this. They have consistently portrayed the GOP as racist. Should we ignore that?
And it’s nothing but simple fact, gained from decades of polling, that black Americans tend to skew much more conservative socially than most other groups- they’re, in fact, some of the most religious people in the country if you look at them as a subset over white americans, asian americans, hispanics, etc. The polling also shows that black Americans tend to go liberal in their attitude towards income redistribution (usually in the form of welfare and similar programs).
Star Parker just recently wrote about this.

Ahemmm, whether the accusations are false is in the eyes of the beholder.
By what Saltzman did – he himself played into the whole race card dynamic – exactly what his intent was but it backfired.

You would be the first one to bristle at the thought that someone might be OFFENDED at the gay lifestyle. Would you like for those that are offended by gays to garner as much sympathy as you have for the blacks offended by this term?
I’d bet you would tell those offended by gay lifestyle to pound sand.
This song was one of MANY songs on a CD. Those that are offended by this should not be concerned when Muslim groups become offended by overtly homosexual displays in public.

wait, I’m getting AprilOrit confused with someone else I think. But anyway, this is a non-issue. The anchor lady wanted to ‘prove’ that Republicans are racists and she got up on her high horse to ‘prove’ that she isn’t. She was trying to get some award with her performance.

You definately have me mixed up with someone else.
I bascially don’t sweat the small stuff – small minded behavior avails us nothing – gets us no where.
I live and let live, try to practice the Golden Rule when possible – try not to carelessly hurt people – try not to be controversial when I know it will only create strife.

I was also raised to take responsibility for one’s actions and lay the blame where it rightfully belongs.

Why GOP members keep turning up on MSNBC is a mystery to me.
They must have a desire to self mutilate.
