I’d suggest following some of the links in the Hill story. While the GOP lawmakers are certainly smiling for the cameras I’d suggest that your post on “The Hill Blog” can focus more on the Media swoon for Obama.

Is that really a swoon. I’m guessing anything but straight out insults will be viewed as a swoon by the media.

Overheard in the cloakroom.

There will be no capital flowing to create private sector jobs without a cut in the capital gains tax.

Public works programs on the public dime are stagnating and debt increasers.

Sorry, Obama, but the economy does not grow from the bottom up.

WHY IS THE ONE LOVED?

It is simple. Movies, books, television shows, sports events and everything else has made men who LOOK like The One the ultimate hero and male sex symbol for tha past 40 years or so. I’m not going to name the considerable list of stars who look like him. God bless them for their success but audiences pulled for these heros because they wanted to and that predisposition was present before a line was spoken in the film. The films also added a coolness that white heroes mostly missed with the exception of Paul Newman and the various Bonds.

Then, to put a lock on it, look at the range of ugly, stupid whites cast in the film. Look first at films like One Hundred Rifles, and In The Heat of the Night for superheroes that rule, in part, because their hero, like The One, has the added mojo of white guilt, empathy and venom against the dominant culture and the national history. Then you add whites as fat, rich villains or toothless rednecks while the only acceptable white male is a sidekick, a plot advancing loser or an authority figure who secretly admires the hero.

This is MY explanation of the Slobbering Love Affair and I am thinking of sending it to Bernie Goldberg who probably wouldn’t touch my ideas with a ten foot pole. But that is another influence. I am trying to find his e-mail address as it may be amusing to explain the leg chills.

According to that linked Politico article, Obama is adamant about using our tax code to “rectify” what he calls “social injustice” with his “rebates” for non-taxpayers. This is an issue worth fighting over loudly and often in fron of the cameras for the sound bite by the opposing Republicans. Obama is unwilling to compromise on an issue that affects those who pay the freight for the proposed legislation. Taxpayers should not be penalized in order to win Obama electoral approval by those who are not invested in growing the economy but only taking from it,

President Barack Obama rolled into the Capitol with a clear message for Republicans Tuesday afternoon: He’s happy to talk, but he’s not compromising on his tax rebates for lower income households.

Obama was ready for the House Republicans to pounce, telling them: “Feel free to whack me over the head because I probably will not compromise on that part [refundable tax credits],” according to two sources in the room.

In the meeting, Obama acknowledged a fundamental divide between Republicans and Democrats on the issue of a tax rebates for people at the lowest income level – Republicans complain that tax cuts for people who don’t pay income taxes amounts to “welfare through the tax code.”

House Republicans pelted Obama for more than 30 minutes with questions about deficits, taxes and spending, according to sources inside the private meeting. Rep. Kevin Brady (R-Texas), won applause from his GOP colleagues when he asked the president whether he would promise that the stimulus would not be an excuse to raise taxes or increase spending. Rep. Dave Camp (R-Mich.), asked Obama for common ground on taxes in the $825 billion package – and was rejected.

Obama responded, according to sources in the room, that he was worried about the deficit and debt, and promised that his fiscal 2010 budget – coming out next month – would make hard choices in terms of spending cuts in an effort to reduce the deficit. And the reality is that Obama and Democrats don’t need any Republican House votes to pass the stimulus.

Shall we place bets that those “hard choices” will focus on cutting the budget in national security, intelligence, and the Pentagon?

I get verying degrees of response depending on the COngress Critter..but they DID get the message on immigration bill and on TARP One, then the big players took the DOW down 777 and they got scared and caved..the suckers..

And the twenty-something at the other end appreciates your effort because you keep them employed in a job secured by daddy’s contribution to the Congressman’s campaign. Only once have I ever gotten a legitimate response (from my Congressman on the eve an election). Otherwise that twentysomething sends you a pre-programmed generic response that welcomes your input and assures you that the politician will seriously consider your views when voting on the issue you brought up.

Rep. Bob Inglis (R-S.C.) said that Obama was sincere and “impressive” during his meeting with Republicans Tuesday afternoon.

Translation: My district has enough black Obama cult worshipers I need to fawn over the filthy bastard if I want to be reelected in 2010.

Don’t worry, they’re still voting no on the stimulus. I think.

It doesn’t matter how they vote. They’re badly outnumbered. Their votes don’t signify.

A lot of folk here at Hot Air still act as if we were running something. We’re not running anything, except mouths, keyboards and blogs. We’re kind of sad, actually.

…… he already has the Democratic votes to do this. If it is such a good idea, why even bother with the Republicans, unless you will need “the usual suspects” to hang this on come election time.

This would be the same meeting at which The One told them to get bent if they think he’s going to add any more tax cuts to the bill, inviting them to “whack me over the head” about it if it makes them feel better.

Where does that Politico story say that Obama has said no to all tax cuts? He says he won’t get rid of the welfare rebates, but I can’t find anything else.

I actually think the Republicans are playing this very smart: Blame it on Pelosi!
