Video: NYC baker surprised to find “drunken Negro head” cookies not a hit

posted at 8:15 pm on January 26, 2009 by Allahpundit

A follow-up to the clip I posted in Headlines this weekend, re-embedded here as background. Which famously regressive Gotham enclave does this guy operate in, that he thought Sambo pastry might be a hot seller? Why, er … Greenwich Village. Which makes this the business equivalent of a Darwin Award nominee.

Note his (alleged) comparison of Obama to Lincoln, rendering the faux innocence of the second clip that much more exquisitely unctuous. Reminds me of little Adolf Campbell’s father insisting he just liked the name. Exit question per the reporter’s outro: People are “incredibly hurt” by this stupidity? Really? “Incredibly”?

Blowback

Nobody has asked the obvious questions. How many did he sell! Who bought these cookies?

Answer: Tony Zirkle. 2 dozen for him and 15 dozen for the Great Porn Dragon

Dude, if I walked into my local bakery, and the guy asked me if I wanted to buy a drunken negro head cookie, I’d tell him to turn the hidden camera off and get out of my sight. Now I’m a chocoholic…and I couldn’t eat that cookie. It looks…organic. It’s gross. Somebody needs to do a blood test on that baker. He’s whacked out on something.

austinnelly on January 26, 2009 at 10:25 PM

Oh ok heh heh Tony Jerkle. Like we say in Jersey ‘get outa here’.

Cody1991 on January 26, 2009 at 8:42 PM, may have been referring to Florida Crackers who were early settlers. I’d always heard they were originally called Crackers because of the crack of the whip used to herd cattle.

I hope that’s not what Cody meant, as I’m from Cracker stock and I think these cookies, whatever their ingredients may be, are tasteless.

Now that I think about it I would be wondering what was in the rest of his stuff too. He may get more than he bargained for now with the national coverage fron the msm. I can hear Olberdouche now “SIR YOU ARE THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD”.

sonnyspats1 on January 26, 2009 at 10:35 PM

Oh, OK, I thought from your comment you hadn’t heard of the name before.

INC on January 26, 2009 at 10:36 PM

$3.50 for a cookie?!?!

Now that is an outrage.

baldilocks on January 26, 2009 at 10:44 PM

I spent many years in Florida so I am a cracker by association. The term has some interesting applications. While working on construction sites some guys white and black used the term casually. I can’t name one time anyone was offended. Then again if I were called a wop, deigo,or ginny(sp) I probably would have bristled at the very least, but I have been known to run people off with a claw hammer.

sonnyspats1 on January 26, 2009 at 10:51 PM

The problem is that all these ‘intelligent’ people don’t realize that Negro is not the ‘N word’. Ignorant? Yeah, the Greenwich Villagers are.

One question. When did they outlaw racism. . . even if this was racist – which I don’t think it is.

ThackerAgency on January 26, 2009 at 11:32 PM

I guess he really was sick of running a bakery. Perhaps the third worse place to do this (Harlem would be worse, Berkley next). I would call this morality play, The Dope of Greenwich Village.

Mr. Joe on January 26, 2009 at 11:47 PM

They’re just all ticked off that he beat Hollywood to
the punch by getting the publicity first.

How many Bush movies, Books and rallies have called for his assasination while the media just turned their backs.

Sell a billion baker and don’t invest in the US banking system.

And why the hell should he apologize.

Texyank on January 26, 2009 at 11:58 PM

Shouldn’t they be “Intoxicated African American ” cookies?

What was he thinking!

(His Coconut Crackeroons are great, though!)

profitsbeard on January 27, 2009 at 12:09 AM

When this pastry shop was on Bleecker and 7th Ave it was much better, they have gone down in quality over the years quite frankly.

AprilOrit on January 27, 2009 at 12:14 AM

If the name of the cookie is so offensive why do they repeat it ad nauseum in the report. Something about the offensiveness seems awful strained. We will not be post racism until no one gets offended by this stuff. BTW if a mixed race guy like Obama made these cookies would they be offensive. Coming soon with 50% less racism in every bite.

bagoh20 on January 27, 2009 at 12:24 AM

Why is the National Endowment of the Arts to stick up for this man’s artistic pastries?

He said it was art – so that’s all the excuse I need to hear. If Urine Jesus is protected then Drunken Negro Head cookies should be protected.

I was looking at cars recently, and I noticed that all the tires are black. How racist is that?!

Coronagold on January 27, 2009 at 7:02 AM

Question: What would be the response if he made drunken caucasian face cookies?

Answer: None.

shick on January 27, 2009 at 7:24 AM

This is racism but political correctness.

Another question: Could a black baker make the same cookies and get no complaints?

Answer: Yes

shick on January 27, 2009 at 7:26 AM

I meant to say this isn’t racism.

shick on January 27, 2009 at 7:27 AM

The man isn’t too bright for expecting to make these cookies and expect no consequence.

Top of the class in some schools…
This guy is nuts, but at least he got all the free publicity. This is the kind of guy who has to have his own business, no one would hire him.
Someone should ask him what the difference is between those and the drunken Mexican heads, or Puerto Rico heads…and where is the white chocolate heads?
It’s weird, funny, foolish, we have a couple of hundred million people these guys “pop” out of the wood work every so often.

Either way, I don’t see how anyone is arguing that this man should be arrested. He’s free to be racist. He’ll just likely lose money over it, as most racists do.

Lack of it seems to be the thinnest. The black people asked about the cookies in the first video posted didn’t seem to even want to be bothered by it.

Esthier on January 27, 2009 at 11:00 AM

And what if he was actually using the “N-word” and not negro?

Yeah. “Drunken Nigger-Head Cookies” is racist. Even moreso if he’d tied an icing noose around them. Well done. Of course, that’s not what he called them….so your point is….?

Lack of it seems to be the thinnest.

Nah. Whites seem to specialize in feigned indignation on behalf of the people they secretly wish to keep on an ideological plantation.

As I said…just you wait.

LimeyGeek on January 27, 2009 at 11:21 AM

Of course, that’s not what he called them….so your point is….?

That’s not what he called them on camera, but there were people claiming that’s what he called them off camera. I’m not saying it’s true, but he’d have to be a special kind of stupid to admit it on camera.

Whites seem to specialize in feigned indignation on behalf of the people they secretly wish to keep on an ideological plantation.

You give one or two examples of idiots who claim to be Republicans and assume the worst of all of us. That’s pretty shallow.

But okay, I’ll play that game.

All liberals are Jimmy Carter-type morons. Feel better? Not that I believe that, but if it helps you through life, okay.

Wait a minute – your guy gives his first real Presidential press conference to “Al-Arabia”. Tells them America is at fault for the “problems” we have with them. And not on “left of center” type appears to have a beef with that.

Forget what I said previously. Liberals are morons.

Bottomline – this is no game. The game is over and we lost because of this kind of floatsum and jettsom that has found their way into the GOP. It has nothing to do with Liberals or Jimmy Carter at all, you are skirting the real issue.

We need voters and support.

No normal reasonable educated person wants to be affliated in the same party with this kind of black, muslim, asian and jew hating trash.

They are a glaring repellent, we need to sttract voters not make them sick at the very sight of our party.

AprilOrit on January 27, 2009 at 7:31 PM

April, I’ve read your stuff in the past, and I never felt any aura of “right” emanate from it.

As for the GOP, it’s not the Grand Old Party anymore. It’s a bunch of neo-Dems with very, very few conservatives. Maybe a couple dozen in the House, and Jeff Sessions in the Senate.

Ronald Reagan left us with a shining example of what wins in America, but almost no “Republican” bothered to pay attention. Sarah Palin is the closest viable candidate we have today that remotely resembles Ronaldus Magnus, and it sure looks like you don’t like her. We need her, and we need the fire she brings.

If you’ve got someone else in mind, I’m open to suggestion.

Sarah Palin could never win an election. The Independents, Moderate Reps and Dems who supported Reagan hated her, had McCain picked someone else we would have won.

She brought a fire under the lowest common denominator – the very bottom of the barrel of the GOP, this is fact.

Perhaps this Party is not for you anymore. Instead of trying to undermine and destroy it – perhaps you should leave it.

AprilOrit on January 27, 2009 at 8:33 PM

Squiggy on January 27, 2009 at 8:22 PM

Palin’s hateful campaign rheteric damaged the GOP and she knows it. This is why she is bending over backward throwing kisses at BO, it’s really sickening.

Ronald Reagan would have never stooped as low as she did, he would have never used the tactics she did to attract the people she did.

Nancy Reagan is still alive and well and we know how she felt about Palin and her followers. Mrs. Reagan choose not to say anything about Sarah Palin – which speaks volumes.

AprilOrit on January 27, 2009 at 8:42 PM

I was right in my initial estimation of you April. You’re not even a little conservative. You’re just another “pretend republican” (i.e. Rino), something we’ve been plagued with recently. You and your cohorts are the biggest reason we got out butts kicked last November. There was no reason for any of the “moderates” to vote for “liberal lite”, when the real thing was available.

John McCain is not a Republican, he’s a rino. And he was chosen by the media, and people like you. The media chose him for one reason – he couldn’t win. Never. Not under any circumstance. Your claim that Sarah ruined it for him is less than silly. She fired everyone up, and more than doubled his warchest. Until she came on board, half the republican party said they wouldn’t vote for him under any circumstance. Sarah gave him a huge boost, and kept him from getting beaten by twenty points.

And by the way – thanks for showing me your true self, April. It’ll save me so much time responding.

Barack Obama won becuase he moved toward The Right and didn’t cater to the Far Left loons in their party.

This is a Moderate country, being fiscally Conservative is what we are, but we are not some socially Conservative Far Right loon party full of haters and the under educated and ill-informed.

We were never that, that was the Democrat Party.

And that stradegy loses everytime.
