Maybe it’s all that talk about “stimulus”
posted at 8:57 am on January 26, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
Drudge has a red light up on Nancy Pelosi’s interview with George Stephanopolous yesterday in which the House Speaker defines “stimulus” in a new and interesting way. Pelosi has included hundreds of millions of dollars in the economic stimulus package for contraception, apparently concerned that the screwing the federal government plans to give taxpayers may give some of us the, er, wrong idea. But cui bono – who benefits?
STEPHANOPOULOS: Hundreds of millions of dollars to expand family planning services. How is that stimulus?
PELOSI: Well, the family planning services reduce cost. They reduce cost. The states are in terrible fiscal budget crises now and part of what we do for children’s health, education and some of those elements are to help the states meet their financial needs. One of those – one of the initiatives you mentioned, the contraception, will reduce costs to the states and to the federal government.
STEPHANOPOULOS: So no apologies for that?
PELOSI: No apologies. No. we have to deal with the consequences of the downturn in our economy. Food stamps, unemployment insurance, some of the initiatives you just mentioned. what the economists have told us from right to left. There is more bang for the buck, a term they use, by investing in food stamps and in unemployment insurance than in any tax cut.
Well, I hate to be the one to explain this to Grandma Pelosi, but contraception doesn’t actually work as a short-term cost control method. Maybe she forgot this from her high-school health classes, but a lack of contraception in March won’t actually produce extra mouths to feed until December. Education costs, which Pelosi explicitly mentions in support of this initiative, wouldn’t appear until 2013 at the earliest. And actually, this would provide an economic stimulus to the education industry, one of the few legitimate areas of government spending at some level to create jobs (although not the federal level).
This line item exposes what we all know about this stimulus package: it’s a pork fest. Consider where these contraception dollars will go. It won’t be to Walgreens. Eventually, this money will go to Planned Parenthood, in order to shore up their operations. They just laid off 20% of their workforce, and the Democrats need PP to campaign for them in national elections. Pelosi wants to increase the government subsidy for electoral purposes, and will exploit the “stimulus” package to do so.
Mike Pence has introduced a bill to block all funding to Planned Parenthood. Contact your Representative and tell him or her to support HR 614 and to end the pork subsidies that have a lot more to do with electoral politics than cost-cutting through contraception.

We can’t have people having babies now. They might need Welfare to survive and have the government take care of them. I think Nancy hasn’t thought this out enough they would be losing their next generation of a voting base.
I think this whole bill stinks. I don’t see anyone in the Media coming out against this. This bill is worse than W’s Where is all the outrage. Most people I hear on the news or talk to think this is a good idea.

The best argument for conservatism over the past 16 years has been Democrats, sadly. Keep talking, Lock-Jaw Pelosi.
As for her economic argument, all I can say is Heh. If she believes that “cutting costs” in health care is the top priority in the stimulus package, well great, I couldn’t agree more. I recommend an Obama executive order immediately ceasing all forms of tax breaks, medical benefits, and increases in welfare payments to people already on welfare who have out-of-wedlock babies.
She claims she wants to “reduce medical healthcare costs” from illegitimate pregnancies – that’s easy. Stop providing financial incentive to knuckleheads.

njcommuter on January 26, 2009 at 9:18 AM
The greatest healthcare costs arise in the last six months of life. If Pelosi is willing to cut off one end of life, how long will it be before she espouses the early termination of the late end as a means of cost savings?
It is more than a little ironic for someone who wants universal health care to choose life-termination as a frugality.

This is brilliant on Pelosi’s part (stick w/me on this). Mandatory birth control for minorities to start with. Of course, whatever “mistakes” happen and a baby is conceived can be aborted… Then whites will be “allowed” one male only baby. This will allow all women to work in community organizing projects that will be mandatory under this administration. If you get paid, you can take it down to the National Bank of America to deposit your check because you will be required to save. Then get on your windmill bike and drive back to your government provided house.
Welcome to the new world of Obama and Pelosi if we don’t stand up. Can we get rid of Pelosi – YES WE CAN. Get to work people – the grassroots have been watered and fertilized and we’re growing. Enough is enough.

This is the most ridiculous f***ing statement I’ve seen in some time.
I love how PC-conscious she is by qualifying “more bang for the buck.” Given the context, she should should have specifically included “and in condoms for teenagers” in her list of investments. But then I guess that would actually constitute “more bucks for banging” rather than “more bang for the buck.”
Then, I love how she and other Democrats have co-opted the words invest, investing, and investment in an attempt to try to legitimize ridiculous governmental spending. Conservatives need to take big red pens and colored pencils out and draw huge circles around this nonsense and call it the nonsense that it is. Get some stones and backbone.
For crying out loud, I read last night somewhere that as much as $4 billion has found its way into this package that will essentially be a subsidy for ACORN. Screw that.
Conservatives in Congress have to compile a list of the shit getting thrown into this bill, identify the guilty sponsors, and then start running Wall Street Journal ads. Sorry, but 35% of the country may roll over for anything Obama and the Democratic Congress proposes, but I don’t that the middle 35% of the country is on board for a lot of nonsense.
Returning to Pelosi’s comment about food stamps and unemployment, is there a more bizarre example of the Chinese (I believe) proverb: “Give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish, he eats for a lifetime.” Democrats are all about giving with other people’s money. This country should be about teaching and creating equal opportunity rather than trying to ensure a very low level of mediocrity.
Pelosi is a POS.
Lower corporate tax rates for large C corporations, and I suspect that they’ll be less likely to lay off workers. And lower individual rates so that the business owners who are S corporation shareholders, limited liability company owners, and other self-employeds are less likely to lay off workers too.

It is just amazing to me how quickly they throw out the ‘we’re doing it for the children’ mantra. What they are doing for the children is burdening them with massive debt based on irresponsible ‘leadership’. They don’t see it that way. Pelosi was concerned with 10 Billion Dollars a month for Iraq. . . now 7 years worth of Iraq War spending should be passed according to her without question.
These people are going to destroy democracy. They already expose some of the greatest flaws to this political system. Democracy does not produce leaders. Democracy produces pandering politicians who care about nothing but 1 getting them elected and 2 getting their party elected.
The American people take a back seat to this government. . . unless the government is asking for money. . . then it is to the front of the line – because it’s ‘for the children’ of course.

In regard to contraceptives? Nice choice of words.
We/ve been getting porked for quite a while now.
Bill Nelson, D-Fla, was just on Fox News, and admitted that “we are making it up as we go” and that Congress has every intention to enter the wage market and set wages, AND penalties, for executives of companies receiving federal bailout funds. Notice their focus is on corporations…but what about ACORN which stands to gain over $4 million for “community development and outreach” under current legislation?
Nelson admitted that there is no oversight, but Congress is working on it. Give a meth addict a thousand dollars and then ask him four months later, well, let’s see where the money I gave you went?
Government deciding what the pay scales of corporate executives? Next, managers? Middle line employees? Laborers? Once we open that door…welcome, brave new world and welcome to socialism on a grand scale.
Interesting. First, there are no rules in place…no real plan, each committee, each member of Congress is tossing out bailout bills right and left, some pass, others get melded into other legislation…
Question for the audience: Is there ANYWHERE a comprehensive listing of “Bailout” funds spent thus far and bail-out finds in the mill, and bail-out funds about to become law? Any overall “buck stops here” location that provides factual numbers and entities who are receiving funds (your money), will receive funds (your money) and those proscribed from receiving funds (your money)?

You are violating scripture by judging someone. Catholics do it all the time (so do a lot of other denominations, but Catholics get defensive about it). Christians should be too happy to be saved to be concerned with how God judges OTHERS.
It’s quaint that you ‘care’ about Pelosi’s soul. Because according to you, if you ain’t Catholic then you ain’t a Christian. . . hence the cry for ‘excommunication’. If that cry wasn’t so offensive to non-Catholics Christians, I’d let it go.
But the Catholics are becoming like the blacks. It’s only racism and offensive when it is against blacks and Catholics. . . when it’s against other minorities and Christian religions, it doesn’t matter to you.
Pelosi, as speaker of the house, is DIRECTLY IN CHARGE OF THE NATION’S MONEY. . . YOURS AND MINE. Her job is to spend my money. I don’t particularly care whether she goes to hell or not because that doesn’t affect me. It doesn’t affect you either. (of course if it weren’t for the Catholics, Roe would have never been put in place. . . Protestants have been fighting it – primarily against Catholic abortion support – since it became legal).
But you go ahead and condemn her to hell. Too bad you don’t have the authority in your church to do that. . . but you invoked the hierarchy (extra-Biblical) to do it through the proper holy channels. . . the Archbishop.
To be concerned that she should be ex-communicated instead of what she is going to do with AMERICA’s MONEY is completely absurd. It means you should reconsider your priorities on a political board.
ThackerAgency on January 26, 2009 at 10:22 AM
I heard Pelosi’s interview with Snuffaluffagus this morning on Laura Ingraham’s show. Actually, Pelosi’s statements are quite consistent with another conspiracy theory that I recently heard about:
The Dems want national healthcare because they know it will lead to rationing of medical services. This will, of course, lead to more deaths of American citizens. Fewer american citizens = less people collecting Social Security. So socialized medicine will serve a dual purpose for the dems: a political win, and they’ll have fixed Social Security! Brilliant!

Don’t forget about all the pork going to ACORN. Flashback to their last “stimulus” bill. Now flash forward to 2009.
For three weeks now ACORN members have been aggressively pursuing a campaign to pass a bold, progressive Economic Recovery package in the new Congress. Working closely with allies like US Action, AFSCME, and the larger Americans United for Change coalition, ACORN members are taking a major role in building the coalition to pass this recovery package, and to create the context for it to be both stronger and more directly responsive to the situation facing working families across this country.
Because of reality facing America’s low- and moderate-income communities, ACORN members and their neighborhoods function as the canaries in our nation’s economic coalmine. In many cases, our members are experiencing severe economic dislocation, but, despite their personal hardship, they are organizing for a progressive response to the worsening economic situation facing the entire United States.
Translation: Gimme some of that! 4.19 billion will stimulate us.

Where are too many Catholics on the issue of abortion? For some reason, liberal Catholics seem to have the impression that only the Left has charitable inclinations. Yet last month, even Nicholas Kristof of The New York Times conceded that people on the right are clearly more generous with both their time and their money than those on the left. I guess that high-profile members of the left merely have better publicists–and liberal Catholics buy into this nonsense hook, line, and sinker.
Shame on those of any Christian denomination, any other religion, or non-belief who lean left because they accept the canard that the Left is more compassionate than the right. It just ain’t so, and yet it lines these idiots up with the enlightened ghouls who support the abortion industry.

It’s just so difficult not to think the C___ word whenever her picture appears. Even more so when she opens her mouth. There must be a cozy little spot for her waiting in he11!

Amen.
And as for that look, I saw a joke clip late last week from Leno or some other comic in which they depicted one of Pelosi’s cats. The cat’s face had a big set of human lips with bright orange lipstick and wide, bulging eyes. It was hilarious. Ed and Allah should try to track the clip down in order to make a still copy for the purpose of creating an additional Pelosi header picture.

I said here that Ms. Pelosi is totally cold-hearted. That’s one of the most ruthless statements I’ve ever heard a public figure ever make.

Between this and the repeal of the Mexico City policy, I’m getting to quite happy Obama won. Of course, there are the many downsides to Obama on the economy and our confrontation with Islam.

Looking out at the world, I cannot help but wish that a few more, selective, parents would have practiced birth control. What would the world be like today if Marx, Engels, Stalin, Lenin, Hitler, Mao, Castro, Chavez, Khrushchev, Sadham & the Ayatollahs would have never been born?
DL13 on January 26, 2009 at 11:34 AM
Maybe. I’m not so sure about that. Where does our constitution grant government the right to oversee education? Where do we get the idea that the state government ought to be in charge of this?
I’d appreciate some ideas on this.

What about Einstein, Lincoln, Washington, Jesus, Churchill, Reagan…You can’t forfeit one without the other.

Drudge also carried a story about how Japan, in its 2nd decade of recession despite massive government stimulus packages and debt, is begging its workers to have babies.
Granny Nan should know that you can not have generational transfers of debts and entitlements without encouraging a surplus of rug rats. But then, the sacrament of abortion trumps all other considerations.

Meh. We knew this from the beginning.

Nancy is so full of shit it isn’t funny any longer. But those effete liberal morons in SF continue to re-elect her.
