Obama: Um, I know some of you are skeptical about spending a trillion dollars

Emphasis on “some.” Polls consistently show that more people support the stimulus than oppose it even when the price tag is attached, from 45 percent by Rasmussen’s measure to 53 percent from Gallup to even greater majorities per McClatchy and CNN. Expect stories like this plus The One’s own insistence on accountability, starting with the new Recovery.gov website, to push those numbers even higher.

Anything missing here, though? Any crucial pieces of information politely omitted lest they jeopardize the bill — besides, I mean, the fact that it’s brimming with pork and that it’s viewed by at least some prominent Obama advisors as a crude vehicle for redistribution? Why, there’s nary a word about TARP II or the fact that the recipients of TARP I already have lobbyists in place to make sure they get theirs when it inevitably passes. According to Rasmussen, 59 percent already say they’re worried about too much spending; imagine what it’ll be after The One finally gets around to telling us he wants another multi-billion-dollar bank bailout — after the stimulus has been safely signed into law, of course.

That Washpost article proves the huffpost article correct. It wasn’t an “anonymous” person at the HuffPost. It’s a direct quotefrom Orszag, head of the Congressional Budget Office who said there is no such report on the whole stimulus plan and the timetable. The CBO itself, went on to say that what was leaked to the media was not a report on the timing of full stimulus only a portion of it. But do keep telling yourself whatver you need to believe. Even that the CBO lies about what reports it does.

DeathToMediaHacks on January 24, 2009 at 3:51 PM

Forgot to add, Chuck are you claiming that the huffpost writer made up a quote by Orszag and contributed it to him to undermine the report. If so, why hasn’t Orszag’s office said “that’s a lie, we never said that to a huffpost reporter.” The logical conclusion to your assessment of the situation makes no sense.

DeathToMediaHacks on January 24, 2009 at 3:52 PM

I blame this insanity on George W. He numbed people to the big numbers. $300B mortgage bailout of Freddie/Fannie here, $700B bailout here, $80B for AIG here, $20B for GM and Chysler there.

Had Bush not spent $2T already, the thought of Obama spending $800B would have made people stand up and think WTF, is Obama crazy? But instead they think, what’s another $800B when we’ve already spent trillions. Let’s do it already.

A greater burden won’t help this nation take off any sooner and the sooner we take off the sooner the rest of the world will.

Its called exceptionalism, its a contagion not a seed, manure won’t make it grow.

Not correct. There was no kidnapping. International law required that the wishes of the father be honored.

After this bill passes, America will continue it’s slide to socialism.
This amount of government spending is an obscene afront to every
American taxpayer. Most taxpayers would see no benefit from any

The one and only place to start imo, is to start calling your representatives and be heard!.
The defeatist idea that its already over is part of what makes their machine work. Sabotage it. every chance you get, and the way to build hope of success is to start expressing the importance of your voice in any way you can. The easiest is to be heard via phone call, letter or email. This. Is. What. They. Did.

It works both ways.

Call..vent..and be heard, or wait for your number and instructions. If you think they’re getting cocky now…just wait. They’re like unchallenged bullys.

It won’t get that far. Business will fold, people will quit and let’s see how long the socialist form of an American Government could hold together with no revenue. A long winter of no heat and millions of starving people will put an end to the socialists utopia.

My spouse and I have always lived well within our means (both sets of our parents are “depression kids” so we were raised to save/prepare/etc.) and we have enough saved to get us through 2 years of hard times, provided we don’t have hyperinflation, then who knows what will happen…and I might feel sorry for those who didn’t vote for Obama, but I feel ZERO sympathy for those who starve and freeze that did.

I doubt that would happen all at once. Think ‘boiling frog’, or ‘first they came for the ____ and I said nothing’ sort of situation. Adjustments to the conditions evolving would be blamed on other things and the need for even more help from “Nanny” would most likely be warmly greeted by a fearful and confused population until many are willfully compliant out of need.

My father-in-law emailed us this great American cartoon from 1954 – as he calls it – the good old days – when things were done right. It’s about business and how high taxes will destroy everything.

I wanted to share it – I hope you enjoy it and some of the older posters may have already seen it.

It’s called It’s Everybody’s Business.

It’s posted on what seems to be a Left leaning site, although I could be wrong. They seem to be making fun of it in the description – but I’m sorry – it is so true.

What we are going through now is predicted as – what we shouldn’t be doing – in this simple little cartoon.

IF ONLY BUSH HAD BEEN SUCH A RAMPANT FREE-MARKETEER: “Mythmaking is in full swing as the Bush administration prepares to leave town. Among the more prominent is the assertion that the housing meltdown resulted from unbridled capitalism under a president opposed to all regulation. . . . Rather than a failure of capitalism, the housing meltdown shows what’s likely to happen when government grants special privileges to favored private entities that facilitate bad actors and lousy practices.”

Sums up the democrats “pay to play” agenda with Fannie/Freddie pretty well.

Now with this pork boondoggle that guarantees little to no jobs and no real infusion for the economy until maybe after 2010,it is obvious who the democrats care about:

Reid: Lobbyists are people, too
posted at 6:45 pm on January 20, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
http://hotair.com/archives/2009/01/20/reid-lobbyists-are-people-too

As the Who once said, “Meet the new boss — same as the old boss.” Old Hope and Change: Lobbyists are evil. New Hope and Change: Lobbyists are mommies and daddies, too. Harry Reid promises that lobbyists will find welcoming arms in the new Obama administration, and certainly from the Democratic Congress:

Reid invited top lobbyists to join him and his supporters for an inaugural brunch Monday where he told ABC News that he will still do plenty of business with them.

“And there’s nothing wrong with that,” said Reid. “And Obama will be meeting with them too.” When asked to clarify his remarks, given Obama’s promises to change that part of Capitol culture, Reid responded that lobbyists are part and parcel of the job.

“People should understand that lobbyists, per se, are someone’s father, mother, son, daughter,” said Reid. “They work for a living.” The Democratic leader’s sons and a son-in-law have worked as lobbyists.

Of course there is a democrat in the White House now so this is no problem.
Just business as usual.
“Yes We Can”

Republicans need vote no to this rip off of the American people and lay out a smarter stimulus.

Small Business to Get Short Shrift from Obama Administration
Posted By Tristan Yates On January 24, 2009 @ 12:00 am In . Column2 03, Money, Politics, US News |
http://pajamasmedia.com/blog/small-business-to-get-short-shrift-from-obama-administration/?print=1

If small businesses are the economic engine that creates jobs, builds wealth, and makes the American dream possible, then naturally our new president plans to support and rely upon them and give them everything they need to pull us out of the economic slump, right? Well, no.

Small businesses are facing the most hostile climate in a generation, and it is not just the slumping economy and credit crunch. With the quiet scrapping of the $3,000 job creation tax credit — which was “never set in stone” according to a senior Obama adviser – there is no more small business tax relief on the horizon. (Clearly, campaign pledges are only valid if chiseled into tablets, Ten Commandments-style.)

Instead, American small businesses face not only tax increases on individual income, dividend income, and capital gains as the 2003 tax cuts expire, but new environmental fees and regulations, health care “pay or play” mandates, and a significant expansion of new “rights” for workers that may well include compulsory unionization. The entrepreneurs we are counting on for future economic growth have only higher expenses and reduced flexibility and opportunities to look forward to.

Apparently when the liberals Messiah was talking about “Hope” he was only addressing the future welfare family.

This is why companies are shedding workers in record numbers. Mark my words, if this stimulus gets passed the markets will reel in terror and I would imagine another 2-5 million will get the axe. Until people wake up and support the company that gives them a paycheck instead of the Messiah then it will only get worse. Don’t let the democrats destroy capitalism.

izoneguy on January 24, 2009 at 9:36 PM

The problem is DEFICIT spending of 1 trillion dollars. That is “spending” a massive amount of money that the Government does not have — which means that the Government must borrow the money; which menas that the Government is crowding out private borrowers and increasing the national debt that must be serviced by interest payments.

Phil Byler on January 24, 2009 at 2:38 PM

There is also $275 billion in tax cuts, which is confusing to me. Is this money that he is promising not to take from us?

The whole package is bullshit, we all see that. It is conceived in haste by people (the staff) who are equal parts terrified of being held responsible for the country’s ruin, and shivering with anticipation at the opportunity to immediately socialize and/or destroy this county, depending on how much they hate it. They’re throwing money at anything that moves, and they don’t have an effing clue what they are doing.

BOHICA

We got $150,000,000,000 in redistribution from Bush in 2008 via the stimulus checks. It was used by most to buy crap made in China or sent directly to the bankers to pay credit card debt. I don’t care who you are, but paying only lower and middle income taxpayers is “redistribution of wealth”.

We got $850,000,000,000 (which turned out to be more like 2.5 Trillion) taken from us by the Bush and the RINOS with TARP #1.

We got $25,000,000,000 taken from us by Bush and the RINOS for the UAW bailout.

So yeah, a Trillion taken from us by a black socialist from “across the aisle” is pretty outrageous. It’s not quite as much as Bush and the RINOs took from us, but it’s still enough.

We don’t know where this money went, or where it’s going to come from. But we know the folks in Washington want to spend even more this Spring.

And where exactly in our history has government taking over the economy ever actually worked?

The Times of London has a take on “Soviet Britain” that raises many questions as to what parts of America, or all of America, may look like once this government “stimulus” is allowed to go unchecked.

Once government “owns” the economy, it is in direct competition to the private sector, with predictable results.

It’s the teleprompter. No really.

Ogabe uses the transparent teleprompter such as those utilized at the conventions; they force you to simultaneously focus on the words being displayed as well as look through the glass at your audience.

It’s disconcerting, the more so because Ogabe has soulless eyes.

Bishop on January 25, 2009 at 12:11 PM

make sure you understand what a trillion dollars represents.

It means you will be placed in debt for the amount of a full year’s income taxes…..which must be paid back with interest at some time by you or your children.

Are you going to get that kind of value from the Depression Stimulus Bill.

For most people, that would represent 2 to 4 years of mortgage payments.

But instead, what you will get is a permanent recession, and a very generous lining of the pockets of Democratic contributors for make-work nonsense projects that would never be undertaken by private industry….because they are a total waste of money…..your money.

So clearly they are 2 different people.

The really funny part you evidently missed, Orszag backs up exactly what the supposedly nonexistent CBO report says… only 25% of the spending is accounted for. Only $136B of the $355B will be in next 2 years and then $70B in AMT relief for tax year 2009.

$136B + $70B = $206B, which is almost exactly 25% of $825 billion total.

I have little doubt some of the above will also come this year on top of the $26B in spending projects like construction.

It’s just humorous that after all the screaming we’re not spending enough domestically, they construct a bill where they arent spending enough domestically.

So if this bill does anything, it’s because Obama is going to put more money in the hands of Americans.

Which of course is exactly what the Bush tax cuts did… except it was far far cheaper and clearly worked. The quarter after the May 2003 tax cuts “for the rich” was the biggest quarter of growth in 20 years… Over 7%

Why do I get the feeling he’ll be making the same speech four years from now?

I’m not just skeptical of spending $300 million on contraceptives, I’m downright against it.

It’s like Obama thinks we @#$% our way out of this economic crisis. Everything will be OK as long as we have lots of safe sex.

Perhaps, Obama has a plan….

“Ooh, now let’s get down tonight
Baby I’m hot just like an oven
I need some lovin’
And baby, I can’t hold it much longer
It’s getting stronger and stronger
And when I get that feeling
I want Sexual Healing
Sexual Healing, oh baby
Makes me feel so fine
Helps to relieve my mind…”

There’s no Barack Ogabe of the US as much as there is a Hu Jingabe of China. Few differences save for scale and culture, but the conduct remains the same.

Perhaps those who want an alternative to Obama would do well to remember that there are plenty of us here who wanted a China-hostile administration.

Perhaps those who sold our nation to the Third World would do well to come clean and apologize. Those who instituted offshoring and the various loopholes and those such as NASSCOM who lobby against our citizens(acting much like an Enemy of the State) have done too much damage and helped get us where we are now.

I honestly don’t care if you call me some sort of foreigner-hating epithet. Right now, that only tells me what side you’re on and it is not the one that gets our nation back on its feet.

“Um did you know my um father who abandoned me was um black?
Got um a spare trillion um I wanna spend it on a um bunch of worthless um scumbags for their money and um votes.”
That’s the genius for whom we all work now…
My word of advice:
America (NYSE) – short it!

I thought this stimulus package was supposed to focus on JOBS JOBS JOBS???? Read this:

STEPHANOPOULOS: Hundreds of millions of dollars to expand family planning services. How is that stimulus?

PELOSI: Well, the family planning services reduce cost. They reduce cost. The states are in terrible fiscal budget crises now and part of what we do for children’s health, education and some of those elements are to help the states meet their financial needs. One of those – one of the initiatives you mentioned, the contraception, will reduce costs to the states and to the federal government.

STEPHANOPOULOS: So no apologies for that?

PELOSI: No apologies. No. we have to deal with the consequences of the downturn in our economy.

1 trillion dollars?

$50,000 given directly 20 million of the lowest income tax-paying, legal Americans would do more to stimulate the recovery than letting the government that regulated this mess upon us handle its “fix”.

I trust Obama and his minions to manage this money like I trust the Chinese not to steal hundreds of billions of our intellectual property.

It seems Obama thinks he’s really impressive when he purses his lips so primly.

Kralizec on January 26, 2009 at 2:00 AM

Obama: Um, I know some of you are skeptical about spending a trillion dollars

Nearing two trillion, actually…
A trillion here, a trillion there, & pretty soon you’re talking big money.

355 Billion and not one job created. In fact 50,000 lost.

More hypocritical rhetoric from the messiah… didn’t he campaign on fixing the deficit Bush left this country with? And now he wants to increase it?!

Cr4sh Dummy on January 26, 2009 at 6:45 PM

Quite simply, since BHO got more campaign donations than anyone in history, he has more repaying to do than anyone in history. Most of the “stimulus” will go to unions, Fannie & Freddie, Planned Parenthood, & other BHO donors.
