Quote of the day

posted at 10:00 pm on January 23, 2009 by Allahpundit

“When I learned this, it became apparent to me that idealized virginity is just a tool to keep women in their place. But then I realized something else: if virginity is considered that valuable, what’s to stop me from benefiting from that? It is mine, after all. And the value of my chastity is one level on which men cannot compete with me. I decided to flip the equation, and turn my virginity into something that allows me to gain power and opportunity from men. I took the ancient notion that a woman’s virginity is priceless and used it as a vehicle for capitalism.

Are you rolling your eyes?”

Whether she’s a two dollar whore or gets millions…a whore’s a whore and nothing more.

Skank..whore…It doesn’t take much of a “beholder” to consider these terms judgemental.

Nor does it take much of a frontal lobe to understand that you are judging them for making those statements.

Um, what’s missing from the linked blog article is the fact that this is a HOWARD STERN production, the “Bunnie Ranch” in Nevada is hosting the auction, and her sister is an employee at the Bunnie Ranch.

If Howard Stern started this whole thing, it is definitely a scam of some kind. Probably to get people to sign up for Sirius so they can catch this stuff on Stern’s show… and help save a dying company.

I’d put my money on: She’s definitely NOT a virgin; any exam she takes will be done by a doctor of her choosing and the Doc is in on it; we’ll probably find ‘Natalie Dylan’ selling it for a lot less to a lot more men on a daily basis at the Bunnie Ranch in the near future; this is just a very large and very lame publicity scam.

Mr. Joe on January 24, 2009 at 1:23 AM

early European marriages began with a dowry, in which a father would sell his virginal daughter to the man whose family could offer the most agricultural wealth. Dads were basically their daughters’ pimps.
When I learned this, it became apparent to me that idealized virginity is just a tool to keep women in their place.

Dowrys in Europe traditionally went bride to husband. Mohammed reversed that in the Muslim world because most families killed their daughters at birth so as to avoid the finacial crisis of a dowry. Instead the dowry became the divorce settlement that the bride got to keep if her husband left her.

But honey, you are just a whore.

I am unsure about dumping on this woman. First, she claims to be a virgin, but I would insist on verification if it was my money.

She is SO modern.

Second, if this cherry is for sale, who are we to dump on Blago or Cold Cash Jefferson or Rangel or Cunningham? Really, get a grip…anything is for sale, what’s the bid?

Life is just a negotiation of what you can pay for what you want. You want more than you can pay, tough. Get used to it. Those with money or power to grant favors are just better than you. They get what they want, you get the leftovers. But if you were connected or useful to your betters, you too could be supping on the best and casting your orts to the unwashed, the unuseful.

This is as it was in feudal times. The lord was the master. Change…yah…regression, not enlightenment.

Since we cannot define “is” anymore, is anyone surprised?

KCB on January 24, 2009 at 12:19 AM

You aren’t necessarily being a hypocrite. You just aren’t saying anything meaningful.

You are calling people judgmental as if that is an impeachable offense in and of itself. That is a meaningless normative statement because you need to exercise judgment in order to make it.

Next time, explain why their judgment is incorrect. E.g. “You are being overly indulgent in expressing conventional disdain for something that you neither understand nor have any right to criticize.” Or, “How can you call her a whore or a skank when you don’t know her?”

Either of these statements have meaning. “You are being judgmental and therefore you are bad,” has no meaning. It is self-contradictory.

Those jungles were magnificent. I remember getting out of the C141 at Howard and the drive to Fort Sherman. Looking out the windows at the passing city, then towns, I thought the Barbary pirates found a new home. Ft Sherman was the pits. Panama was then (70s) truly a fourth world country. It made Tijuana look like a shining city on a hill ;)

Were you a paratrooper? Fort Sherman was on the Atlantic side near Colon. I was on Howard in the 70′s also, a dependent.

Panama City was Tijuana in many ways, especially the bars.
The only time I visited Colon was during the Army tours across South and Central America. Hot and sticky as I remember.

But the NCO club in Howard was always an interesting site.

Ever notice that when someone is doing something that is wrong, they feel the need to convince you that it isn’t. It’s like they say it more to convince themselves than to convince you, which is the very nature of rationalizing.

Kini on January 24, 2009 at 2:49 AM

If we are to survive day to day in the real world, we must be judgmental all the time. Well nearly…
We look at people and judge them constantly on the street. Is this guy a threat? If he’s dressed like a gangster, standing just inside a shadow, no one around, etc…you’re most likely to judge the person, in those circumstances, to be a threat and will pass by him with hand on pistol.
We listen to/read the posts of others, presumably expressing the way they feel about whatever is being discussed and judge them to be liberal, centrist, conservative, insane…etc.
Can’t help it. Just a fact of life like it or not. Those who fail to make those judgments are, quite often, the ones we read about as being the victims of this or that crime.
Judging people doesn’t always work out. Con men abound, but we still have to protect ourselves as best we are able. Judging people is a part of our lives, if we wish to keep and enjoy them.

AUINSC on January 24, 2009 at 12:20 AM

Yeah, judgment / judgement is an interesting word to say the least. Actually, both ‘judgment’ AND ‘judgement’ are accepted spellings. (!)

As luck would have it, though, that isn’t necessarily true for ‘judgmental’, which has only the one spelling. Don’t know if that’s an oversight in most dictionaries, or if there really is a double-standard, one for ‘judgment’ and another for ‘judgmental’. :-)

Anywho: I won’t be getting to the bottom of it tonight since it’s 3:30AM and I’m gonna catch the bottom half of Red Eye:

You and I have strong, moral impulses associated with selling oneself for sex. Natalie, though, grew up in a generation that treats sex as something common, like eating or shopping. They have no moral impulses attached to the act. (One may imagine that they have no moral impulses, period. That’s a related topic, but not the same one.) So it’s actually logical, from where she sits … er, lays… that if she can earn some bucks by selling something idiots value, why not do it?

The problem is not Natalie, but the insane American sex culture in which she grew up, that has devalued sex to this degree.

philwynk on January 24, 2009 at 6:52 AM

Few people are mentioning the incredible fools who are offering such alarming sums for the “privilege” of having sex with this kid. However low we may consider the girl, the men who are bidding for her are lower. Makes me wonder how such morons could have produced so much value as to have that sort of cash on hand, to spend on a night with a 22-year-old virgin.

It’s a sad episode all around.

philwynk on January 24, 2009 at 6:59 AM

I haven’t labeled anyone with a noun. Just an adjective. Maybe I am being hypocritical. I am willing to consider that. Thanks for the food for thought..sincerely.

KCB on January 24, 2009 at 12:19 AM

It’s really a pretty easy exercise, KCB. If you can phrase your objection as “You should not do X,” then you’re judging. “You should not use words like ‘whore.’” “You should not judge others.” Any use of “should” or “ought” is a judgment.

spmat at around 1:30 AM was correct, as well; judging someone for judging is self-refuting. It’s only hypocrisy if you considered yourself morally superior because you didn’t judge like those others who were judging.

philwynk on January 24, 2009 at 7:05 AM

Sorry, as a conservative I don’t see the problem here.

Yes, it is horribly immoral and degradating. I firmly believe she shouldn’t be doing this.

That being said, she is setting the price the free market will allow, in supposedly good faith (if she is, in fact, virginal). That price is whatever some dope is willing to pay.

The quote itself is a bunch of feminist BS. Sex is ALWAYS the power women have held over men, throughout history. Look at any society where a woman ruled for even a brief time and you can see this. Feminists don’t recognize this because they REQUIRE women to think they are perpetual victims, and that their every breath is somehow a blow against oppression.

BKennedy on January 24, 2009 at 7:15 AM

You guys got it wrong, the former gives it away for free. Offering it for money is called solicitation or prostitution. Why she hasn’t been arrested is beyond me.

But that’s not even the point of making fun of this young Lady of the Pavement. I think the whole point of ribbing on this Gilded Lady is that she’s so desperate to convince everyone that selling sex for money is not equivalent to be a prostitute.

Jed1899 on January 24, 2009 at 9:34 AM

The irony is, with talk like that, she is substantially reducing her “market value.” If she she reluctantly were to sell her virginity it would thereby be more valuable. Commercializing and commoditizing her virginity cheapens it.

I wouldn’t pay a plug nickel for this trollop’s “virtue.” And whoever pays for it, will be getting ripped off. I don’t for a second believe that this girl is still a virgin.

I took the ancient notion that a woman’s virginity is priceless and used it as a vehicle for capitalism.

It’s not a capital commodity in that once sold it cannot be replaced and it immediately has no value if mishandled.

She is taking something which can only maintain its value if used in one particular way. You can use a $100 bill to roll a cigarette or you can invest it in one account and enjoy the interest gained for years.

NO *WAY* WOULD ANYONE PAY THOUSANDS, LET ALONE MILLIONS OF DOLLARS FOR THIS NOT-ALL-THAT-ATTRACTIVE WOMAN.

…Picture a fat, bearded, un-showered, toothless, can’t wipe his ass, farting, worm ridden, wort infested, herpes ridden, smelling like death who won the bid………

Seven Percent Solution on January 24, 2009 at 12:09 AM

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed won the bid?

My collie says:

Now you know where all those guys are going — once Gitmo is closes down.

Thank you Mr. Present-dent.

This chick is an inspiration to Trailer Trash and Jerry Springer Show contestants everywhere.

She’ll get more than Doug Kmiec got.

Here is another one

Mr. Joe on January 24, 2009 at 12:10 PM

Would you put a less slutty picture up please!

riowalk on January 24, 2009 at 12:45 PM

Where’s the rage and hatred for the low life men that are bidding? Aren’t they just as much “Whores”?

I guess they don’t count. Besides, is it better that she give it up to Jimmy, “Gonna be a rapper” in the back seat of lowered Dodge Neon? I don’t see how she’s worse than anyone else.

ronsfi on January 24, 2009 at 1:35 PM

For the love of Pete, sell it already so I don’t have to see that sleezy picture on the Home page of HotAir anymore.

I took the ancient notion that a woman’s virginity is priceless and used it as a vehicle for capitalism.

She needs to be educated. It’s not virginity that men place value on. I guess the easiest way to explain this is to put it this way:

When you buy a new new car, it darn well better come with new tires.

It’s not your virginity we’re interested in, it’s your vagina. And yes there are cultures where virginity is valued. Interestingly enough, the the virginity is garuanteed by the womans life. Not a virgin? Stone her!

Who is the better person? A drug addict or the dealer who supplies him?

BobMbx on January 24, 2009 at 2:19 PM

Wait for it… it will be revealed that this prostitute is no virgin. It’s just a matter of time.

Fish on January 24, 2009 at 2:22 PM

Who’s worse? The whore who is devaluing herself and her sexuality or the desperate morons bidding millions on it?

You can’t have one without the other.

Hoof Hearted on January 24, 2009 at 10:53 AM

How about the woman who does the same thing for free? We call her a slut, yet the men who score with her are “just being men”.

I don’t get it. Nail the town slut, you’re a good guy. Pay for it, you’re a whore too.

BobMbx on January 24, 2009 at 2:24 PM

“Are you rolling your eyes?”
No, mine popped outta my face and I’m on my hands and knees feeling around for them, whore.
The picture of her says it all…Those dirty pillows must have cost a pretty penny; no wonder she wants millions for whatever is left of her ‘virginity’. It’s obvious that she’s done some ‘practicing’…

Probably the addict who is spending her kids lunch money on dope. (See how complicated it gets when you start judging others?)
