Matthews: Palin’s book will do well “if she can read”

posted at 9:00 pm on January 23, 2009 by Allahpundit

I don’t think he meant it the way it came out, but Politico does. And I concede, I have no alternate explanation.

Maybe he meant “if she’s developed a compelling narrative voice from years spent poring over the classics”? Help me out here.

Matthews is a joke. During an early interview he chastised a guest asking what Obama had ever accomplished. He was addament because he was supporting Hillary. Then he got a tingle up his leg once Obama was chosen. He’s a turd. So is Olbermann.

Truth is Mr. Matthews; Sarah Palin has accomplished much more in her short life time than you have in yours, and you’re heading towards the finish line… Sarah has much more fuel left in her engine, you on the other hand, have been running on empty for several years now.

Keemo on January 24, 2009 at 9:00 AM

Mr. Matthews doesn’t know any politicians.

If she can read.

Sarah’s best friend when they were growing up said she always had her nose in a book. An informed political commentator would know this.

Mathews is clueless. Sarah will write her own book, with a competent editor. And it will be good.

Basilsbest on January 24, 2009 at 9:44 AM

Help me out here.

I think he meant to say “If she can write” and it just came out wrong — whether for malicious reasons or just a freudian slip of the tongue, I couldn’t say — and then he immediately corrected himself.

He’s not nearly clever enough to say something like that intentionally, without pausing to laugh at his own crack and let others absorb his “wit.”

I’ve been noticing the extremes of self-congratulation from among the leftworld. Just yesterday I had to surf past a commentator exclaiming how great the brainpower was that Obama had gathered — before they’d accomplished a single act. I nearly had to gag.

They genuinely do believe they are the salvation of the planet. And they won’t have a clue what happened when the entire enterprise crashes.

philwynk on January 24, 2009 at 9:57 AM

and then he immediately corrected himself.

Um, wait just a sec. It seems to me that whenever Sarah Palin made a verbal slip, Chrissy was quick to claim it was a clear indicator of stupidity. Could it be Chrissy has a double-standard? Naaa… he just understands that good people like him and any Democrat deserve a pass, and bad people like Palin and any Republican exist to be mocked and scorned. It’s in the new MSM code of ethics. Google it.

drunyan8315 on January 24, 2009 at 9:59 AM

Sarah’s sure got ‘em running scared. She must be a huge threat, else, why give her so much negative cover.

I wish someone could answer this for me. Almost from day one, all we heard was, Palin’s not qualified; she’s inexperienced. Huh? My question then and now is why is Sarah any less qualified than ANY other governor who ever ran for National office? Would they have used the inexperienced label on say Bill Richardson, or Janet Napolitano? From the Dem party who preaches tolerance, sure sounds misogynistic to me.

This morning on NPR Dan Schorr was in prime form gushing about how incredibly busy Obama had been in his first 100 hours on the job. Then Scott Simon mentioned that a Gitmo detainee who had been released has now become deputy honcho of Al Qaeda in northern Pakistan. Dan allowed as how it was “bad luck” that the story broke on Friday just as Obama was signing the executive order.

I am thinking that Dan often greeted similar bad luck on the part of a Bush initiative as evidence of the utter immorality of it and its sponsor, even when the timing or even the verity of the coincidence had to be “helped along” by the media.

Dan Schorr is worthless, but fortunately for Dan his worthlessness has found a comfortable home at NPR, where the worthless go to retire.

Obama is not particularly smart, he’s just another empty idealist — which is a terrible thing because when the idealist gets hold of his object of desire, say the Presidency, he doesn’t know what to do with it. His life usually deteriorates from that point on, whether it be alcoholism, drugs, or recklessness; in general, you can expect some form of self-destruction from an idealist who realizes his goal. Think Clinton.

Now Reagan was not an empty idealist. He saw the Presidency as service to the country. When he attained the Presidency, he humbled himself, put on his suit and tie day after day, and went to work. He didn’t issue daily messages stating that he was planning to get to work. He just got to work. And then he left the stage like a gentleman. This is the mark of a great man.

Obama’s early days resemble those of his fellow empty-idealist Bill Clinton, not those of great men like Reagan, or Lincoln, or G.W. Bush.

Chris Matthews is nasty, rude and abusive to those who intimidate him.

Will anyone ever forget his unspeakable rudeness to Michelle Malkin (The great Zell Miller to the rescue!) and towards Ann Coulter? The man is a limp wristed and obnoxious leftist bully to those with whom he cannot compete intellectually.

I do not doubt, for one minute, that his words regarding Sarah Palin were deliberate.

They always stereotype conservatives as stupid.

When it’s the opposite. Conservatives HAVE to be educated to espouse our beliefs, to KNOW that self-determination is better than having the government give it to you.

On the other hand, it’s largely only possible to believe in big government liberalism if you are ignorant and uneducated (or were indoctrinated rather than educated). The only libs who KNOW what liberalism really does are the leaders, who dont’ care because they are the ones in power, who won’t have to live like the proletariat because they are the Emperors.

“Alas, how many have been persecuted for the wrong of having been right?”
–Jean-Baptiste Say
“The first thing a man will do for his ideals is lie.”
–Joseph A. Schumpeter

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”
– C. S. Lewis
“Everybody has asked the question. . .”What shall we do with the Negro?” I have had but one answer from the beginning. Do nothing with us! Your doing with us has already played the mischief with us. Do nothing with us! If the apples will not remain on the tree of their own strength, if they are wormeaten at the core, if they are early ripe and disposed to fall, let them fall! I am not for tying or fastening them on the tree in any way, except by nature’s plan, and if they will not stay there, let them fall. And if the Negro cannot stand on his own legs, let him fall also. All I ask is, give him a chance to stand on his own legs! Let him alone!”

Dr Evil on January 24, 2009 at 12:50 PM

I don’t think he meant it the way it came out-Allahpundit

I believe Matthews knew exactly what he was saying and said exactly what he meant to say.

When Katie Couric asked the question of Palin, she was implying that Palin was stupid.

Everyone, including the governor, understood this. Of course, Palin took offense to the question. Then the governor got stubborn and refused to answer.

Political snobbery rules the day. The entire Democratic party is full of elitists. There are plenty of elitist in the Republican party.

It is time for both parties to put the people first.

Chrissy “Tingly Legged Wimp” Matthews ought to to a little investigative hournalism into just WHO wrote Obama’s Book. There is a lot of convincing evidence that Obama didn’t write that book and that it was ghost written by ayers

1. The fact that obama never wrote anything worthshile prior
2. The fact that the book was going no where
3. The fact that the book makes a lot of references to nautical language. Obama was never a sailor but billy bomber was in the merchant marine
etc.

Our society is too civilized. I’d like to see matthews thrown into the ring with todd palin on Friday Night Smackdown. Chrissy Boy would quickly go from MR. Hardball to Mr. NoBalls.

Well Chrissy, Sarah received a degree in journalism, which should have been your credential instead of the Insufferable Windbag degree you managed to get from where ever you went to school.
I’m confused. Chrissy is a HRC devotee, then when he gets that objective thrill up his leg, he switches his gender preference…And my step mom doesn’t think men can become indoctrinated into homosexuality. My brother is another good example; he’s married to a woman but is in love with Barry.
I’ll bet his wife is relieved.

In the middle of Evan Thomas’ insidery campaign book, A Long Time Coming, there is a section on early conflict between John McCain and Barack Obama in the Senate, even before Obama was openly running for president. I thought this bit was interesting for more than one reason:

Obama further aliented McCain on the immigration issue. McCain took great political risks on immigration, defying the GOP faithful who wanted to build a wall across the Mexican border and arrest and detain illegal immigrants. Working with Ted Kennedy and a bipartisan group, McCain came up with compromise legislation to create a guest-worker program. Obama asked to join the group. The senators agreed to hang together to vote against amendments from both the right and the left. Some very conservative senators honored the agreement, voting against conservative amendments — but Obama did not, voting in favor of a number of liberal amendments. After one meeting, Kennedy chewed Obama out for his fickleness. (Months later, asked by a colleague why he had endorsed Obama for president, Kennedy gave a one-word answer: “Caroline.”)

Without reading too much into this anecdote, on immigration, at least, Barack Obama took care of his base and John McCain did not, and his base included Caroline Kennedy. She must indeed be a little bitter about now.

Sweet Princess Caroline, under the bus!

The Kennedys are going to war!

Let’s have some fun with the drivel you spewed vernie

That idiot woman went to 5 colleges in 7 years to get a BA.

Well considering that Komrade Obama never released any of his records from his college days, we really don’t know what HE did do we?? Tell us genius.. What courses did he take, what grades did he get??

Oh, and while you are at it, for extra credit, please discuss the extent that affirmative action helped obama get into the schools he allegedly attended and what effect, if any, AA had on his grades.

She doesn’t even read newspapers.

Proven to be false… OTOH, the lamestream media is so slanted that I’m not sure that reading newspapers has any real value. They are good for getting the fireplace started and lining the puppy’s cage though

Other than keeping an eye on Putin and leading the Alaska National Guard

IOW, her international experience is a couple of orders of magnatude greater than “Let’s vote present unless I can get my wife a raise or pay off the lady who helped me buy my mansion”

what exactly does she have to write about???

Values, Conservatism, energy policy (Which whould be a lot more detailed than blow your tires and get a tune up ) The idiots in the media, how to fly a float plane, governing one of the more important states in our union, big/dangerous game hunting, commercial fishing .. oh, I dunno, maybe that’s enough

Here’s another one for you vernie if your mommie lets you stay on the computer.. For extra credit, compare and contrast that with Barack “I play bassetball once in a while and I community organized obama.

Oh, you might want to skip the bassetball part because Gov Palin HAS a proven record there.

So, you are a little sycophant sucking up to the socialist narcissist somehow hoping that the haphazard implementation of socialism/marxism and the dismanteling of our defense and military capabilities will somehow make your pathetic little life more meaningful… loooooooooooosssser!!!!

Hopey changey….

I think that his leg tingle is a sign of rabies, as Chrissy has become a rabid lap dog of Obama and the Left. Either shoot him in the stomach with 20 needles or just take him out back and shoot him. Either way is fine with me, as long as it stops the Obama gushing and Palin hating. PDS is the new PMS to the left.

Let’s face it folks-Sarah Palin has magnificently bluffed her way through life. First her school teacher father and the Alaskan school system neglected her by not teaching her how to read or write at the level of Dick and Jane. Sarah should sue them for millions.

Then the universities that passed Sarah should have their licenses revoked for dereliction of duty and passing or graduating someone not worthy and not capable of writing college essays.

Next the Alaskan voters who elected Sarah Palin should all have their heads examined for casting their votes for a total moron.

And finally the Alaskan legislature should impeach Sarah Palin for being an impostor and misleading the legislature about ‘reading’ the stimulus bill.

Of behalf of all Americans Chris thank you for exposing Sarah Palin for the fraud that she is.

Just think if America elected an illiterate as POTUS in 2012; the Messiah would never live that down and American would be on the road to ruin, more than it is now.
