Blago: Fed arrest like Pearl Harbor

I assume that Rod Blagojevich means the movie Pearl Harbor and not the actual attack.  The latter killed over 2500 Americans, which would make Blago a ghoul.  The movie, however, was almost as embarrassing as Blagojevich himself:

Illinois’ embattled but defiant governor, so fond of reciting poetry as he defends himself against federal corruption allegations, has turned instead to the history books to describe the emotional strain his arrest put on him and his family.

In an interview Thursday with The Associated Press, Gov. Rod Blagojevich compared his early morning December arrest by FBI agents to Japan’s 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor.

He says it was a “complete surprise” but he’ll prevail, just like America in World War II.

Blagojevich says there’s no chance he will resign before the start of the state Senate’s impeachment trial next week. He says he will fight the allegations against him “to the very end.”

So, I guess my assumption was incorrect after all.  Blagojevich is both a complete embarrassment as well as a complete ghoul.  Got it.

Blagojevich also declared that he would not resign, but fight impeachment to the bitter end.  However, the Illinois governor (for now) neglected to file a challenge to impeachment allowed by the House rules.  They’re going with the we-haven’t-bothered-to-read-the-state-constitution strategy of declaring that the House has no authority to impeach Blagojevich without him being convicted of a crime.

And just for good measure, Team Blago offered up a Bonus Offensive Historical Analogy:

Adam and Blagojevich’s other attorneys announced last week that they would not participate in the Senate trial — Adam and his father compared it to a lynching — and said his conviction is guaranteed.

Um, okay.  Selling a Senate seat is the new civil rights movement.  Impeachment is starting to look like the mild option, while tar and feathers look a lot more reasonable.

Tar and feather sounds good to me. The goon tattooed his name all over our tollway gates, rarely goes to Springfield and is a sociopath ewok.

Another History revisionist movie to be released to a video store near you

Fight, fight until 2010.

Pearl Harbor was a terrible movie.

This guys is hilarious! I don’t think I’ve ever had this much fun watching a democrat.

drmanyee on January 23, 2009 at 1:09 PM

I think Blago should have likened himself to the movie “Ishtar” instead. Waterworld?

He seems way too good to be true!

My feeling exactly, you couldn’t write this stuff…now it is a civil right to sell a senate seat…and he may be right, in Chicago it may be a civil right.
My gosh, this is so entertaining…

right2bright on January 23, 2009 at 1:11 PM

Ah, Democrats!

Ain’t they wonderful?

I love this Blago fellow. We all know that politics in Chicago are a joke, now we finally have Chicago politician that fits the bill, while others muddle around in the naseating world of fake virtue, Blago resorts to hyperbole and entertainment. To call Blago’s simile’s offensive is to not understand the true beauty of Blago’s political tact. I mean here is a man that everyone turned on and he still fights, those corrupt politicians that wanted to make themselves look like reformers at his expense all got showed up, he beat the Senate with his appointment, I mean through the exposure of his criminal acts he has become the most honest politician in Chicago. He is a gift to us politicos and we should enjoy his presence while it lasts.

LevStrauss on January 23, 2009 at 1:13 PM

He did a radio interview this morning and made one good point. He is not being allowed to bring forth witnesses to defend himself, like all other trials in America. If what he says is true, that is wrong, unfair, and I agree with him not to participate in the trial under such circumstances.

Also on the morning interview, on WLS 890 AM in Chicago, he did a wise polictical move. He stated that Once the Lt. Gov takes over his seat, the legistature will raise the income and/or sales taxes in Illinois. While I never voted for Blago, I can attest to the fact that he has blocked raising these two taxes (he has tried to raise or create others). So if this pans out as he says, we will win some public sentiment.

If you can find the interview on-line, listen to it.

Rod Blagojevich compared his early morning December arrest by FBI agents to Japan’s 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor.

What state is he Governor of? State of Denial, State of Abandon, State of Grace? The FBI called him on the phone and asked him how he wanted the arrest to go down. They wouldn’t have done that for you or me. Then he gets a ridiculously low bail.

Tommy_G on January 23, 2009 at 1:15 PM

This guy is the gift that keeps on giving.

If lefties think Palin is a laughingstock … well … heh. Hehehehehe. Let’s compare laughingstocks, shall we?

Ours: Governor with a ridiculously high approval rating, generated millions of dollars in donations overnight, adored by many on the right.

Theirs: Well … LOOK at him.

TheUnrepentantGeek on January 23, 2009 at 1:16 PM

Pearl Harbor attacks.

Lynching.

What next, the arrest is similar to Taharqa being defeated by the Assyrians under Ashurbanipal?

Bishop on January 23, 2009 at 1:19 PM

I assume that Rod Blagojevich means the movie Pearl Harbor and not the actual attack.

More like “Plan 9 from Outer Space”. More ghouls.

What are the main differences between this impeachment & the impeachment of Bubba for lying under oath?
–Bubba was crucial to the Dems, Blago is dispensable
–Bubba was popular, Blago not so much

jgapinoy on January 23, 2009 at 1:23 PM

The impeachment itself is more like being brought before a grand jury, with very similar rules. At least in the impeachment, he can have counsel.

The actual trial affords him all his rights.

stonemeister on January 23, 2009 at 1:24 PM

…that’s why the Dems circled the wagons for Bubba, but they’re shooting arrows at Blago.

jgapinoy on January 23, 2009 at 1:24 PM

The article doesn’t even mention what his exact words were. Poor journalism.

locke on January 23, 2009 at 1:26 PM

Hey, laugh all you want, but this creep has a good chance of being acquitted. “Thinking” evil thoughts and talking about those thoughts is not a crime.

I’m not defending this douche bag, but don’t forget this is Chicago. If Blago is convicted of something, that means there had to be a quid pro quo with someone else, who likewise would be convicted. Who is that?

If there is no quid, there is no crime. The grand jury cannot issue an indictment.

Did Clinton bring witnesses for his trial in the Senate? Did he do anything to defend himself?

WashJeff on January 23, 2009 at 1:31 PM

If they ever make a movie about Blagojevich, Alec Baldwin should play him. rather the way he has played other borderline-unbalanced characters over the years (Mercury Rising, to name just one example).

Baldwin is almost perfect for the role. And it would be a small recompense for those of us who had to suffer through his “portrayal” of then-Colonel James H. Doolittle in Pearl Harbor.

cheers

The thing that has been fascinating me out here in Illinois with Blagojevich, other than his clear departure from anything even remotely resembling reality as you and I know it, is what he has been saying within the last couple of days.

Yesterday, he said that the Illinois House and Senate were going against “the will of the people”.

Today, on a local radio show, he likened himself to a Frank Capra movie type of character who stand up for “the people”.

I have no idea who he is talking about when he mentions “the people”, or “the will of the people”.

Because everyone you hear from out here right now is howling for his impeachment and they mean like ASAP.

Will we dread the removal from office if the taxes, sales and/or income, are raised?

WashJeff on January 23, 2009 at 1:35 PM

while tar and feathers look a lot more reasonable.

Looks like there is a bit of Bonnie Blue Flag in Ed afterall.

Limerick on January 23, 2009 at 1:36 PM

This projection of his arrest being as big a deal as Pearl Harbor is simply how all narcissistic liberals view themselves. Screaming, “I – Am – Godddd”! And the God of the universe just shakes his head knowing that one day, they too will understand reality.

kirkill on January 23, 2009 at 1:38 PM

As one of his former aides has suggested, he really needs some therapy. This guy’s boulder of an ego makes Ahnold’s and Rudy’s look like a tiny pebbles.

okonkolo on January 23, 2009 at 1:38 PM

Blago seems to have gained his historical knowledge about Pearl Harbor from another famous politician from Chicago, Sen. John Blutarsky.

Definitely tar and feather him. Along with all the other politicians coming out of Chicago. And yes, I’m looking at you, 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

I predict if Blago goes down, he’s going to be taking some other folk with him.

Stand by! Blagojevich has just called for a news conference in Chicago at 2:00PM CDT today.

References to the Crucifixion, Socrates being forced to drink hemlock, and/or the Battle of Thermopylae as depicted in the movie “300″ may be brought up.

pilamaye on January 23, 2009 at 2:10 PM

His next defense will be that he is only subject to the state constitution if he has voluntarily paid state income tax.

pedestrian on January 23, 2009 at 2:10 PM

Democrats are so good at cards. They have race cards, gender cards, victim cards, xenophobe cards, homophobe cards, nativist cards …. lol

Blago is my favorite Dem, a thug and a crook with the nads to claim he’s a victim.

Oh, Blago? Yeah he sucks, culture of corruption, press won’t connect the dots to Obama, yadda, yadda.

I MISS OAHU!!!

hawkdriver on January 23, 2009 at 2:23 PM

you gotta admit blago (althoug an idiot) knows
the demorats and obama are trying to hang his ass
out to dry.

So he realizes the only way to fight these demigogs
is to go public.. so that is exactly what he is doing

Also with the rolland burris pick he just shoved a royal pine cone up the liberals ass

although with franks in charge along with reid and peloize
they probably enjoyed it..

jcila on January 23, 2009 at 3:47 PM

I hope he fights them to the death.

Player King: “You know this play?”
Rosencrantz: “No.”
Player King: “A bloodbath. Nine dead, all told.”
Rosencrantz (thinks): “Seven…”
(Two players hang themselves on stage)
Player King: “Nine.”
– Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead

Blago’s 1 part stupid to 5 parts balls but he knows what he is doing.

The fact that he has Fitzgerald on his team and his knowledge of the Chicago machine still say he’ll walk. He knows where the bodies are buried and he’s playing for keeps.

The impeachment is small fry – the trial should be awesome if it even happens.

Ares on January 23, 2009 at 5:09 PM

hey the movie (at least the last 10 minutes of action)
was worth a crap

the rest of it was a love fest of course..

but blago oh well he is just pissed off because
he didnt get any money and is now being SCREWED by
the democrats in power.

He knew obama wouldnt give him anything
he just got caught doing a clinton firesale
with the feds listeneing..

Hes another moron
i just cant figure out why
obama hasnt opted to nominate him to the position of
Senate leader in charge of Ethics
After all we have a tax cheat
a lobbyist
an environmental wako running the auto industry
a homosexual fraud running the mortgage system
another who got special vip loans and doesnt know what VIP means (he is still looking for this person) just like OJ is still looking for the killer (although behind bars this time)

No i say to obama
Nominate Blago to run the ethics committee
at least he is honest (on tape that is)..

Morons..

Like it or not, Blago is right. Blago has yet to be convicted of anything. What ever happened to innocent until proven guilty? I guess we’ve caved in to the democrats demands, and now follow the Brits and assume guilt first.

Thank God the troops involved in the Haditha [Murtha created] scandal didn’t have to put up with this sort of mob mentality.
