Quote of the day
posted at 10:32 pm on January 22, 2009 by Allahpundit
“The marriage of the Times’ flag and Obama’s silhouette was jarring. One guest remarked that the poster looked like something put out by Pravda — state-run liberal media…
Hence the party. But for a paper with the Times’ long-held journalistic values, hosting a party for a political candidate is far from seemly. ‘I don’t know how to explain it,’ one Times staffer said. ‘I don’t know what the thinking was.’”

His celebrity, and power to inspire the audience, is even a profit center — selling papers — at a moment when the paper must find new ways to market itself and make money.
Even for the most anti-capitalist paper in the country, it’s still all about the bottom line.

The Times is trying to make a buck off Obama, knowing the Mexican acquisition vulture money will eventually dry up.
When the Times eventually goes begging to Uncle Sam for survival money, I hope someone reminds them of the Constitutionally defined separation of News and State, and the Feds should no more bail them out than they would bail out the Catholic Church.

I, for one, am very frightened about the possibilities here. Clearly, the press, led by NYT, and many on the left have socialist designs on Obama. This, plus the cult of personality they crafted together, lead to a mimicry of Hitler, Mussolini, Lenin, Stalin, and on and on.
One common denominator of all the aforementioned was a policy of persecution of the Jews. How far are Obama and his handlers willing to take this?

The MSM was more in the tank for the idiot messiah than Pravda ever was for the party or any member of it. The only comparison is the North Korean press, which happily reported that Kim Jung Il shot a 36 on his first round of golf (mostly holes in one and two). I still have faith that the MSM would only report the idiot messiah as having shot around a 52.
And this only gets worse, as the MSM went all-in with their propaganda, so they can never pull out and report the truth about their beloved retard, since that will expose all of their under-handed lies that were promulgated for the campaign.

As much as I hate to say it, this country really needs to go through a severe depression.
This may sound harsh, but look on the bright side. Think of all of these simpering LibTard bastards actually having to deal with an honest to God life or death crisis. Not the ‘OMG!! I can’t afford my $7 coffee this morning’ crisis. I think an ‘Damn, I’m not going to be able to eat anything this week unless I can do something useful’ type thing.

You are forgetting that the American public, especially in NY, have very short memories. In fact you can compare it to the a computer memory refresh cycle, when the power is turned off the data is lost. The public goes to sleep and wakes up to a brand new world every day.
As much as I would like to see the NYT roll over like a dead cockroach, it won’t. There are just too many RICH liberals that couldn’t live without the daily dose of affirming propaganda from the Times to let that happen. They need tangible reassurance that their mantra is still being sung.

Seven Percent Solution on January 22, 2009 at 11:33 PM
I agree with you, which is why I said that this only gets worse. My point on the MSM having committed themselves fully to the idiot messiah. There is no turning back for them, not that they want to (quite the opposite) but they just couldn’t, anyway.
You are certainly correct about people’s lack of memory these days. I have noted before that it is strange that, the easier and cheaper it is to record things and the more prolific the recordings, the less people seem to remember – though everything is available for later use, eventually.
But things like what the idiot messiah is going to do to Israel will, someday, clash with the tape still being held by the LA Times and, at some point, that will become an issue. The funny thing about idiots without memories is that they get really ticked off when their stupidity is thrown in their faces in such a way that they can’t deny it. No one likes being played for a fool, not even the suicidal morons. They want to die, and they want everyone who looks like them or reminds them of themselves or their family to die, too, but they don’t want to be embarrassed. The thought of embarrassment scares them more than anything, which is why they work so hard to get society to accept as “normal” their truly embarrassing ideas and proclivities. Once people start laughing at them, they are finished, and they know this.

How stupid is this person? Do liberals forget that it’s Kennedy that got us neck-deep into Vietnam? Do they forget the Bay of Pigs or the Cuban Missile Crisis? Do they forget the anger and division and violence that was the ’60s? That our enemies around the world grew stronger as we grew weaker and more divided? That an
All of that Kennedy “hope and excitement” was followed by a decade of reality repeatedly slapping America in the face.

All this talk of “we have to unite behind the President” and “Give him a chance first before you criticize” is such a crock. What they are really saying is, “we won and now you need to play by our rules and play nice — those rules have never applied to us”
Anybody else remember the stupid “We’re so sorry” web page after Bush was elected? All these libtards with little cheesy signs saying, “It’s not our fault, we didn’t vote for him”. Libtard Sorry World Now, it’s all sweetness and light and they want to hang with world: Hang with the world
… and they weren’t any more willing to give him a chance in 2000 — remember all the “selected not elected” and “Not MY president”? Hypocrites
AZfederalist on January 23, 2009 at 12:30 AM
We may not like Obama, and recognize the disaster (at best) of his policies, if implemented…but we cannot gain any influence by name calling or griping. We do not “own” any communication system. We cannot barrage the populace with repetitive phrases or misinformation, nor can we have a news blackout of information we do not wish to be learned (such as any good news during the Iraq war, or Obama’s background).
We MUST organize and take coordinated control of some form of mass media. If not, we’re all doomed to a path to socialism and totalitarianism. Plain and simple
stonemeister on January 23, 2009 at 12:39 AM
Hey, I know a way the NYT can market itself better and make more money: Stop hiring hacks and fiction writers with an unabashed left-wing agenda and actually — wait for it — publish a NEWSPAPER! A novel idea, no? Having honest-to-goodness trained professional journalists who might actually be capable of setting their personal convictions aside in order to fairly report a story. If such a thing exists of course. Real journalists may be as mythical as unicorns. But Obama’s handing those out to every American so I don’t see what we can’t come up with some real newspaper reporters too.
It’s just laughable to me that these news outlets are all left scratching their proverbial heads wondering where their audience/readers have all gone. Someone needs to clue these folks in that there’s a whooooooole lotta United States in between New York/Washington and Los Angeles.
As for Kennedy: A mediocre president in actual fact who was only elevated to cult status because he was shot in the head. Isn’t the marketing department at the Times making a political statement by claiming the last time Americans felt a sense of hope about their future was when Kennedy was in office? Cuz I don’t know about y’all, but the last time *I* felt that way, it was Morning in America. ;)

Everyone needs to calm down and take a deep breath. The wait won’t be long until the real show starts. The NYT just took out a loan at the loanshark rate of 14%. Given their circulation and bottom line figures it won’t be long until some Mexican drug lords are dispached to do some knee-capping because of missed payments.
Consider where the times is today. A looming meltdown of their new benefactor, Mexico. Probable further drops in ad and circulation revenue. All their eggs in one politician’s basket. The ending for this story could be an epic.

“Journalistic Values” at the Times are gone, there are none to be found and perhaps there were never any values anyway.
A tabloid rag it will become, found either in supermarket checkout lines, or oblivion.
Who knows?
Maybe the Mexican Pesos will drive it to use real limes on tacos like truth on journalism. Instead of using substitutes to the real deal. It’s a matter of taste and right now, the Times uses artificial ingredients.
Values? Like vinegar loves oil.

It’s all about “Designer Ego”.
The guy who did the graphic of the red & blue Obama is getting a lot of cred for helping to get the guy elected. The guy who did the design for the Obama campaign (see: beautiful rip-off of Cuyahoga County Electoral board ‘wavy red and white fields with a blue sky’ scenic graphic) is going to go down in designer history as being “the One” who designed IT.
SO, that’s all this is: The NYT designers, trying to get some love from ‘proud papa democratic leadership’ for their design.
You can bet your foot this graphic has been emailed more than actually admired, and used before a single thought was given to it from within an echo chamber the size of the New, York, TIMES.
The NEW building, that broke them. Not the old one that they ran their very SELVES out of.

If those “rich liberals” have not stepped up by now to save this rag (and a host of others) it ain’t gonna happen. It’s typical liberal crap, they preach how important something is and how it must be preserved but they never pull a dime out of their own personal pocket. They’ll be backing a taxpayer bailout, but the rich liberals aren’t stupid, they want to keep their own money, not invest in a dying business model.
Tim Zank on January 23, 2009 at 6:57 AM
Here’s the problem with that thinking…
You’re underestimating the Power of the Fourth Estate.
During the ’30′s and into the ’40′s, through 12 years of the deep economic calamity and hardship, Democrats were able to hang onto power by convincing the masses, they were being done a favor, and that all their troubles were caused by the “evil republicans.”
There are Senior Citizens, to this very day, who will swear, FDR was an economic genius… Nevermind, the reality of high rates of unemployment, and poverty.
It won’t matter how bad it gets, if the Fourth Estate chooses to put a Happy-Face on the situation… Any little small success will be put Front and Center, and the failures will be on the back page.
Perception is the name of the game.
franksalterego on January 23, 2009 at 7:11 AM
franksalterego is dead right. Even worse, something more insidious could be happening. Dick Morris is running around like the guy in the original pod movie warning that The One and the elected pork tossing Democrats are using the stimulus package to plant socialism. I don’t know how successful the stimulus based socialism will be but I do know that blaming Republicans was so successful in the 1930s that my father nearly got killed trying to tell a crowd that FDR was doing the wrong thing. The gang also got FDR a long tenure, wouldn’t you say? And today, FDR is still used as a benchmark of Presidential greatness.

So with prime loan interest rates of 3.9 percent in the US, the NYSlimes pays nearly 15 percent to a foreign loan shark. Mexican loan sharks doing the work that mafia loan sharks won’t do? I find it puzzling that the NYSlimes would lecture anyone on economic policies when their own economic house is falling apart and the manner of their economic solutions is abysmal.
As for the Obama party, the NYSlimes staffer who is shocked and dismayed must have been living in a dunghill for the past twenty odd years. Also curious is the fact that the Slimes is merchandising Obama products. Does Obama or the taxpayer get a piece of that action, if not, why not? Isn’t that part of the sacrifice that the Slimes’ President is calling for?

Reminds me of a story I read about Barry during the primaries, about how he’d taken audio tapes of “Reverend” Wright’s sermons with him to law school so he could listen to them and learn to mimic his speaking style.
Barry is the ultimate triumph of style over substance. A guy who deliberately packaged and marketed himself to appeal to the idiots among us. Unfortunately, the idiots far outnumber the rest of us, and they now have their idol in the White House.
