Pork King: Let’s have terrorists in my district

You have to hand it to John Murtha; the man has used every scheme to get pork known to politicians, and he’s even invented a few himself. The people of his district keep electing him, and he keeps them feeding from the federal trough. His latest plan may have them thinking reformer in the next election, however:
Rep. Jack Murtha, D-Pa., says he’d be willing to house prisoners from Guantanamo Bay in his congressional district if President Obama makes good on a plan to close the U.S. prison there.
As one of his first acts in office, the president circulated a draft Wednesday that would shut down Guantanamo Bay within a year.
Murtha only has a minimum security prison in his district. But he says he’d have no reservations about holding detainees there in a maximum security prison.
“Sure, I’d take ‘em,” said Murtha, an outspoken critic of the Iraq war. “They’re no more dangerous in my district than in Guantanamo.”
I guess when a Congressman considers his constituents a bunch of racists, it’s a lot easier to stick lunatic terrorists among them. Small loss if any of them get killed, right? And you can’t make a pork omelette without breaking a few eggs, anyway. What’s important is the cash, not the safety of the constituents.
What makes this so reprehensible is that Shanksville had been in Murtha’s district on 9/11. Shanksville is the last resting place of United 93, the flight where Americans fought back and saved many more lives by forcing the al-Qaeda terrorists to fly the jet into the ground where no one else could get hurt. Now Murtha wants to house the terrorists nearby, among the people of that area.
Do you think PA-12 might regret its 16-point defeat of William Russell now? I know the Haditha Marines still want their apology from Murtha for his slander against them. Will Murtha’s constituents start asking why Murtha’s on the wrong side of every issue on the war — and not on their side at all?

Honestly, it serves his constituents right after voting him in again.

Geez, maybe Minnesota will finally get a break, I’m not sure even Franken would pull a stunt like this.
Bishop on January 22, 2009 at 8:27 AM
Ah, but he wants them in prison. So what’s the difference between housing them in Gitmo or Shanksville prison. Aside from the fact that Gitmo is more secure and the terrorists won’t be able to infect their poison on other prisoners.

Yeah right Ed. PA = imbeciles. They deserve this tool and everything that comes with it.

After 9/11 there was a lot of rhetoric about America being a sleeping giant. I have come to the conclusion that America is a narcoleptic giant. She wakes up, but then falls asleep again at the most inopportune moments.

Why would they start now? His constituents simply either don’t care or they are on the side of the terrorists. They certainly have no problem with “I hate the troops” Murtha.

Good thinkin’, Jack! Jihadis have never attempted prison breaks before, there surely won’t be any problems. I have a better idea, since we’re about to retire the space shuttle anyway, I say load it up with KSM et al and set the controls for the center of the sun then fire away.

Of course he wants them in his district he’ll need the votes. I am very appalled by this man. He spits on the troops and welcomes the terrorists home with welcome arms. He even came out and said that the prison there is a minimum security prision. What the heck is this guy smoking. I wish Russell had won that seat. This is just beyond sickning. What a slap in the face to all the troops and their hard work. :(

Murtha’s district sounds like the perfect place for them. Let the unsavory terrorists meet up with the unsavory Murtha voters. Then let God sort them out.
AZCoyote on January 22, 2009 at 8:51 AM
Michelle made a comment this morning on Fox about his constituents deserve what they get for re-electing him. I live in his district, and I can tell you that if there was ever a case of voter fraud, this was it.
Our county has a history of voting republican even as the state goes democrat. Some very strange things happened with the numbers this year. Not only did our county go for Bush when Kerry took the state four years ago, but this year it went for McCain by 29,000 MORE VOTES than Bush did then!
There are only two possible scenarios for this outcome. Either a large block of traditionally conservative voters SPLIT THEIR VOTE, or the boxes were stuffed.
What do you think?

And I know Jackie Murtha is a FORMER Marine who served in Vietnam – and was decorated by the Viet Cong several times for valor in the face of the enemy.
The Viet Cong blows another kiss to their favorite American, Jackie “Hanoi Rose” Murtha.

The one thing that keeps getting lost in the Gitmo fiasco is that Gitmo is a Legal Limbo, a place where we can hold the cockroaches and not have them able to take advantage of our constitution and use it against us (with help from the limp dicked lawyers at the ACLU)
It doesn’t matter WHERE in the U.S. you put these bastards. Once they are on US soil, the game changes. I’m not sure if there is any other legal limboland that would work like Gitmo did.
Get ready folks. Meet Mr. Mushroom cloud, Mr. Ebola, Mr. gun the kids down on the schoolbus and Mr. Let’s shoot up a mall in the name of Allah.
Maybe MurthaTurd will let a dozen or of the Jihadi’s live in his house on work release.
Back to the original point. I’m beginning to think that the stuff like Murtha is staged to make sure people miss the real point. IE. Once we close Gitmo, we either have to give the bastards the rights WE have earned as citizens or we have to let them go.
Better stock up on antibiotics and Pottasium Iodate everyone…

Of course Murtha is wrong in wanting terrorists brought to U.S. soil.
Don’t blame his re-election on his district though.
Until something is done about Acorn and it’s power, I’ll
be surprised when ANY Republican is elected.
Acorn’s power has grown mighty… their tactics have worked and will continue to grow.. infecting every election.
Anyone remember the Bailout had a provision that a huge percentage of sell-off proceeds would go directly to Acorn?
So who’s to stop them when it isnt being investigated or prosecuted and never will be when Democrats enjoy the fruits of Acorn’s labor and the power to enable Acorn to continue corrupting our election system.

Not for a moment. I live near Cleveland Ohio and have seen that city and county elect Democrats over and over again, no matter how badly of a job they do and no matter how much corruption is in the mix. I imagine the same is true there.
One thing about Democratic voting blocs is that they are forever loyal. That district would re-elect Murtha in a landslide even if he created a halfway house for 1,000 child sex offenders right across the street from an elementary school and then lobbied to have the offenders’ ankle bracelets deactivated during school hours.

This is the reason the prison in GITMO exists. As terrible as this may sound, I think it has merit. We should return these dudes to their place of capture, give’em a new suit and $50.00. We’ll eventually end up killing them anyway. I understand some of these human specimens will most likely kill more innocent people, but I just don’t have the stomach to engage in a dialogue concerning their “rights” under our Constitution. The risk, in the current liberal climate, is too great that the courts will require prisoners of any sort to be given access to the US justice system. Can you imagine the chaos if EPWs are released from custody because he wasn’t properly informed of his Miranda rights at the time of his
capturearrest or some other technical error?BobMbx on January 22, 2009 at 10:13 AM
THE PEOPLE IN PA.DESERVE THIS MAN AND ALL THE MISSERY AND GARBAGE HE BRINGS UPON THAT STATE.THEY ALSO DESERVE WHAT THE DEMS AND OBAMA BRING DOWN ON THEM.YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW.YOU HAVE NO ONE TO BLAME BUT YOUR FOOLISH SELFS.
thmcbb on January 22, 2009 at 10:14 AM
That WAS the whole idea. Keep them in a place where they cannot use the constitution against us. Put them anywhere on US soil and they get the same rights as our citizens.
I don’t care if Obama put them up in the Blair House with his mother in law. Gitmo is a legal limboland that WAS working for us. Obama has raped that during Day 1 of his administration.
With just one executive order, Obama has moved us a whole lot closer to a massive terrorist attack on our soil. I almost wonder if he isn’t hoping for it to happen early so he can blame it on Bush and do the “Let no crisis go to waste” and consolidate his power….
bullseye on January 22, 2009 at 10:17 AM
I believe there is only a minimum security prison in his district. Might he have his eye on funds to build a maximum security faculity? Getting it done in an allotted time frame might be a problem, but other than that it would be pure pork.

Mr. Joe on January 22, 2009 at 10:30 AM
One little side note. Murtha is seriously overstepping his authority when he says “I’ll take them”. He is that district’s representative in washington. Any decision to take gitmocritters would have to be up to the LOCALLY elected authorities. Just one more example of the Federal Monster getting too big for it’s britches.
And yes, I’m going to repeat myself. Closing Gitmo means that Obama wants to make things easier for the terrorists. When we close gitmo, it is the equivalent for the terrorists of something like Pearl Harbor for the Japanese.
bullseye on January 22, 2009 at 10:35 AM
My biggest worry about having these terrorists on U.S. soil is the fact that it will be much, much easier for terrorist sympathizers to infiltrate the security of the facility where they are held.
We know there are already some sympathizers in our military. Remember the grenade thrown into the officers’ tent? And even at the pentagon—who can forget Hesham Islam, Dep. Sec’y England’s trusted assistant who had Stephen Coughlin removed because
“Coughlin came up with heavily documented findings that Islamic law, to a dangerous extent, supports the global spread of Islamic extremism, through both violent and non-violent means. In presentations to the military, based in part on court documents connected to the case of the Holy Land Foundation, Coughlin warned of Muslim Brotherhood plans to subvert the U.S. system via front groups, and ‘destroy western civilization from within.’”

That sounds like a FANTASTIC IDEA, Murtha!
Let’s put these animals in a prison system with angry criminals that have no regard for the law.
What are we going to get? A lot of homegrown terrorists.
To these criminals, 72 virgins will sound like music to their ears, all they have to do is kill those that kept them behind bars all these years…it won’t be too hard to turn these criminals into jihadists.
Keeping these animals on an island, away from America was PERFECT, but I guess Obama wants to live up to his middle name.

The only fair, just, humane thing to do is to convert the USMC Recruiting Station in Berkeley, California to condominiums and provide them to those poor victims of the Bush-Cheney regime. Along with other necessities of life, such as Priuses, arugula, and a few pounds each of C-4.

If these guys are holed up like Supermax who cares where we put them. The whole idea about Gitmo wasn’t safety, these guys are going to be locked up to the point that escape is impossible, it was just to skirt US law. People in rural/suburban areas wouldn’t have to worry about anything other than business owners competing with the prison for workers. I really don’t see the big to do, all politicians see prisons as nothing but business, if its the contracts going out to run the
businessprison, jobs for their district, or stuffing as many nonviolent offenders into those prisons so you can say you were “tough on crime” as an AG to win elections. But I still don’t get the “boogety boogety boogety terrorists are locked up behind tons of metal, steel, and armed guards miles away…boogety boogety boogety” argument.I don’t know, the people in Supermax don’t seem to complain about KSM’s nephew, Ramzi Yousef.
