Good news: MSNBC ready to add third hour of Democratic programming in primetime
posted at 6:30 pm on January 22, 2009 by Allahpundit
Huh. I wonder which way it’ll skew ideologically.
Phil Griffin, the president of MSNBC, is making 10 p.m. a priority now. In an interview on Tuesday in a studio on the Mall, hours after the inauguration of President Obama, Mr. Griffin said that the channel needed a third original show in its lineup.
“We can’t let this momentum stop,” he said…
“It’s almost like we’re one personality away,” he said. Mr. Griffin said the network would find a host for the new program the way it developed Ms. Maddow. She substituted for Mr. Olbermann and appeared regularly on the air. A splashy hiring, like the signing of Deborah Norville in 2004 for a short-lived show, does not seem to be a priority. “I want it to be organic,” Mr. Griffin said.
In an e-mail message, Mr. Olbermann said he was working with Mr. Griffin to develop options for the 10 p.m. hour. He echoed Mr. Griffin’s comments about the need for a complete prime-time schedule. “Losing the 10 p.m. replay is a very small price to pay for a last piece to the puzzle,” Mr. Olbermann said.
The only “organic,” i.e. in-house, liberal they have on regularly is Harold Ford, who’d be an interesting anchor to the line-up insofar as he’s more centrist and soft-spoken than either Olby or Maddow. Too much so, though: As intelligent as the panel cross-chat might be, the nutroots won’t warm to a show hosted by the head of the DLC.
There’s another obvious candidate but the argument’s already been made why he wouldn’t accept. Exit question: Whom should they pick? Ideally they’d want someone with cachet among young liberals, capable of commanding big-name guests, who has experience being onscreen. Hmmmmm.

The Hour of Fidel, maybe? How about ol’ Li’l Kim?
Note to MSNBC: dung is organic, too.

Oh, good. What could be better than another hour of Democratic talking points?
At least Harold Ford would be interesting and bearable. The other obvious options? Not so much.

How many hours of watching a trained vicious monkey can we stand? I mean, Olbermann is about as interesting as a monkey can be throwing poo and masturbating on air, but three hours of it? Who watches this stuff?

And to think, I remember when she was the house Conservative on “Politically Incorrect”.
At least back then whatsisname the host didn’t try so hard to wear his ideology on his sleeve, and let the guests (always at least one conservative) battle it out. And it still seemed as if their weren’t that many hard feelings amongst them.
Remember “strange bedfellows” with her and Al Franken in bed together?

How about Hugo Chavez? Think of the romantic but unrequited sparks he would set off in Olberman.

MSNBC is Fox News’ estranged sister.
Can’t really see the point of carping about it. It’s as if you have a touchingly naieve view that tv news should be impartial and objective.

I do not watch MSNBC and I honestly cannot remember the last time I ever did. Come to think of it now, when MSNBC first started to air on cable I watched the channel now and then for about 2 months, noticed their heavy liberal bias in their reporting and in their shows, and I never tuned in again.
So, who around here actually even watches MSNBC often enough,or cares enoguh, that makes this topic even matter to them?

We all know that MSNBC will pick another far left loon. Since Keith Olbermann is the boss at MSNBC, and is also a proud member of Daily Kos, I bet he will lobby to have Markos Moulitsas hired for the spot.
SoulGlo on January 22, 2009 at 7:56 PM
My family likes Shep Smith but he has started moving more and more left. Tonight he attacked the birther wingnuts, like li’l ole me.
As to the dilemma posed by MSNBC’s “organic” growing of a new program for the late slot, the answer is clear:
MSNBC can put a trio of Jay-Z and Young Jeezy augmented by a revolving third host of the quality of Reverend Wright, O J Simpson or the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan. This show will be slightly more tame and academic than the rest of MSNBC but you don’t need ‘life or death’ on a news network at 10 PM Eastern.

For purveyors of biting political humor, it’s gonna be awful boring to watch these sharks gum Obama with kid gloves over their teeth. It will be three times the fail for PMSNBC

Momentum? I don’t get it. Are they suddenly winning their timeslots in the political stations market.
Are do they only count their numbers comparable to other Lefties?
I think this praise of AP’s The One is going to get old quick. In fact, I predict a backlash.
Too late, though, because the Gov will own the banks.
We’re done.

Damn it AP,
I thought I’d got it all sussed out. Could’ve sworn you were going to nominate KP but recommend switching the timing. Start with cute but smart and build … Build … BUILD to the final Olbergasm.
Can’t you see the viewers, spent, falling back onto their couches after a KP to Maddow to Olby progression culminating with his direct stare and a thunderous crescendo of “… These are the crises and enormities that you ask us to overcome, from your Crawford mansion, Mister … BUSH!!!
Followed by the homage : Good night, and good luck. For the afterglow.
‘Cuz ya always start the night with the smart and pretty girl. Half a bottle of poteen later you’re hitting on the angry, (ahem) sensibly-shod uggo, and you end up screaming “I luv ya man” with some micro-cephalic clown.

Even though it’s been known, it’s still hard to believe that K.O. is actually THE GUY for defining the news that comes out of MSNBC.
That in itself would force me to sell my stocks ASAP!!!
HarryStar on January 23, 2009 at 12:36 AM
Fox has Republican chatter? And 24/7? Monkei is a most suitable name! Have you watched their “hard news” coverage of anything? Even their reports NOT done by their anchors? HA HA HA
But to become serious, Fox does have opposing viewpoints. Which, liberal friends have told me, keep them from from watching much, since conservative ideas upset them, like a vampire looking at a cross. They stay away even though they find that Fox gives them migranes less often. Several shows on MSNBC resemble Sham-Wow commercials staged in flashy newsrooms and normal humans can only take so much. Maddow could easily replace the guy on that commercial. Just put a mike around her head.
Second, the media mentioned above, namely, “PMSNBC, CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, NY Nazi Times, Washington Post, NPR, PBS” actually start from a warped perspective. Then their shills either deny bias or claim that liberalism is the “one true religion” or something equally dogmatic. Check books by Bernie Goldberg or the recent pronouncements from Ms. Helen Thomas.
Lastly, using the worst as an example (excuse the pun) how many Republicans does Keith (the teeth) welcome? How much does the whole network (MSNBC) welcome any shots at The One? Crissy Matthews was a slavish, servile, toadying little buddy to Representative Murtha for heaven’s sake!
Apropos of nothing: I thought MG was mildly amusing — what is going on up there?
IlikedAUH2O on January 23, 2009 at 3:15 AM
