Video: New Catholic Vote ad welcomes the era of Hopenchange

posted at 4:10 pm on January 21, 2009 by Allahpundit

More than 200,000 views on YouTube in just three days, and well deserved. Evidently they didn’t get the memo from Doug Kmiec that the Democratic ticket was the more pro-life of the two this year, all that unpleasantness about infanticide aside. Try to bear it in mind later this week if, as expected, The One reverses Bush’s ban on funding international groups that promote abortion.

Exit quotation: “President Obama … has been a consistent champion of reproductive choice and will make preserving women’s rights under Roe v. Wade a priority in his Adminstration.”

I wish America would abort liberalism.

Great ad. Maybe it will get somebody thinking… Doubt it, tho.

That, is very good. Very good indeed.

Goes with what I was saying in the other thread, you can make a very good compelling argument with this issue. Gay marriage/civil unions not so much.

Wow! Great ad. The timing seems a little off, however. I doubt it will move Obama. (He wouldn’t want to punish his daughters with a baby.) Too bad the African American community doesn’t realize that Sanger started Planned Parenthood to reduce their population. Think of the potential!

Ummm, abortion is a moral issue. I’m not pro-life cause I tihnk it will get Republicans elected, or even conservatives for that matter. I’m pro-life because I think it is a terrible nation that allows mass-murder as a matter of course.

Spirit of 1776 on January 21, 2009 at 4:42 PM

Awesome.

Not that it will make any difference to the “pro-choice” crowd. To them, there is only one proper choice. Even if The Obamessiah himself came down from the newly-augmented Mount RushHopemore and proclaimed life to begin at conception, the feminazis would only howl more loudly for their right to kill babies.

Splashman on January 21, 2009 at 4:43 PM

BadgerHawk on January 21, 2009 at 4:15 PM

Well, if “choose life” is identical to “don’t vote for obama”, then yes.

I don’t think the ad covered any particular candidate or office — it was generic in that regard.

Its message is timeless — it can be used next November, and the November after that…

What was that comment above concerning a 45 year old guy with a 14 year old girl going to a wedding chapel all about?

Was that The One’s parents? No, she was 17 or so wasn’t she? Well, Dad didn’t get criticized. At least by our Messiah.

I’m imagine the potential of human overpopulation on this planet. The evil you pro-lifers do makes me ill. Though I didn’t vote for Obama, I applaud his sentiments in overturning of Bush’s ban on funding international groups that promote abortion, also known as the Mexico City Policy. I just don’t want Obama to do it. I want Congress to do it, so it can’t be banned by next the President.

Trivialize a senseless and selfish act. Go ahead, stand in front of the mirror, and say it’s all right. Suggest far better ways to spend money, in your estimation. Enlist support for your feelings. Be a voice that finds no important facet about saving the life of the unborn. What comforts me most is that you are not a conservative and you don’t stand with me. A conservative will pray for you but you will not stand with them.

ericdijon on January 21, 2009 at 4:53 PM

The ad is very well done… only two comments…

1. They should have noted that the child went on to “become President.” Being the “First A-A” is irrelevant.

2. After that bishop threatened Catholics who didn’t vote as instructed with eternal, fiery torment, the idea of “CatholicVote” is a bit disconcerting. Actually any claim to bloc voting is disconcerting, but when add “or you’re risking your eternal fate” it gets even (politically) scarier.

mankai on January 21, 2009 at 4:53 PM

Idiot. You’re about 4 decades too late with your overpopulation ZPG bullshit. And in another 4 decades, much of western Civilization (Europe, Japan) will be dying out due to their suicidal choice not to reproduce in sufficient numbers. I doubt you’ll be happy with the cultures that replace them, unless you’re into child marriages, burkhas, and 7th-century theocracies. I dunno — maybe you would.

Splashman on January 21, 2009 at 4:59 PM

Well here it comes.
ON THURSDAY–Obama is set to rescind the Mexico City Policy-a global gag on our federal dollars being used to fund abortions in other countries. Dont forget to look up the UNFPAand see how rescinding this order will allow your tax dollars to be used for forced sterilizations and forced abortions in China. Your tax dollars will now be used to fund abortions overseas.

By the way-I wonder the size of the cajones of a guy(Obama) who dares to tell the hardworking taxpayers of a country in dire financial crisis that the money they do pay for taxes is not going to pay for anything to help American citizens but will fund overseas family planning(abortion) groups.

While I hate the notion of hyphenated Americans, the use of the term in this case might be a subtle reminder that a much higher percentage of black babies are aborted than white. Over 15 million blacks aborted since Roe v. Wade. Abortion is now the #1 killer of black people in America — more than accidents, heart disease, stroke, murder, HIV-AIDS and all other deaths…COMBINED!

By the Church’s definition… they are not Catholic… they are excommunicated… and they may have endangered their eternal fates. That’s also true of “Catholics” who do not attend mass every Sunday and HDOO… and of Catholics who masturbate… but who’s counting?

So the number of true American Catholics (”in a state of grace”) is probably around 114.

You’re right life DOES have alot of potential. But it’s not just the life of an unborn kid that has potential, so does the life of the pregnant woman. Who had some dreams and goals and who doesn’t want to give them up. You may not like her choice, but she doesn’t have to have a kid in order to appease other people. It’s HER life and not yours. That’s the idea behind being pro-choice. She may have been using contraception or condoms, but those are not perfect. She may have gotten drunk one night and didn’t use protection. Should her life have to be radically altered? Of course not. It’s none of our damn business when women choose to become mothers. And unless as a society we’re willing to start anteing up some welfare payments to pay for childcare we don’t have the right to tell women they can’t choose an abortion. Period.

Obama: Messiah of the Pro-Life Movement?

chunderroad on January 21, 2009 at 8:16 PM

Exit quotation: “President Obama … has been a consistent champion of reproductive choice and will make preserving women’s rights under Roe v. Wade a priority in his Adminstration.”

Food For Thought (pun intended):

Cronus was the ruling Titan who came to power by castrating his Father Uranus. His wife was Rhea. Their offspring were the first of the Olympians. To insure his safety Cronus ate each of the children as they were born. This worked until Rhea, unhappy at the loss of her children, tricked Cronus into swallowing a rock, instead of Zeus. When he grew up Zeus would revolt against Cronus and the other Titans, defeat them, and banish them to Tartarus in the underworld.

Cronus managed to escape to Italy, where he ruled as Saturn. The period of his rule was said to be a golden age on earth, honored by the Saturnalia feast.

chunderroad on January 21, 2009 at 8:22 PM

She may have been using contraception or condoms, but those are not perfect.

Personal Responsibility. You make a baby, you have the baby, if you don’t want it then, give it up for adoption.

She may have gotten drunk one night and didn’t use protection. Should her life have to be radically altered?

If she chooses abortion, she radically alters her life. She becomes a murderer.

It’s none of our damn business when women choose to become mothers.

Of course it is. As much as it’s our business if the kids at school have their measles shots or if the teacher in the classroom is a pedophile. Don’t pull that nonsense.

And unless as a society we’re willing to start anteing up some welfare payments to pay for childcare we don’t have the right to tell women they can’t choose an abortion. Period.

What planet are you on? We ARE anteing up welfare for childcare. As far as telling women they can’t choose an abortion, we tell murderers they can’t murder all the time. We tell people not to steal, to embezzle, etc… Why can’t we tell women (or men for that matter) to take some personal responsibility and live with the choices they’ve made?

Well, as one of the 38, I will fully admit that when the statistics are given about “Catholic” voters, you can safely cut the number in half to determine the actual number that are faithful Catholics. That said, the failings of individuals don’t change the truths that are held by, (and revealed in the teaching of) the Church. Even if only 38 try to hold true to them, the Church still stands on them and they remain true.

The mention of “African-American” is genius because, while it makes the excellent point (mentioned above) that a far higher percentage of African-American babies are aborted than babies of any other race, the precedent it refers to is something liberals can’t ignore. After all, that’s all their support of Obama has been about.

In other words, imagine the ad if it had read simply, “He will becomes the President of the United States.” Whoopee.

It would have worked equally well had Hillary won: “She will become… the first woman President of the United States.”
