Special, special lady confirmed as Secretary of State

posted at 4:41 pm on January 21, 2009 by Allahpundit

94-2, with an assist from Maverick in his first floor speech since the election. Cheers broke out in the gallery when they gaveled it. I wonder how she feels about being the first secretary of state appointed by a genuine author-president.

Not sure who the two no votes were; I’ll update once I hear. Exit question: You do realize that MSNBC anchors are laughing openly now at the GOP’s lack of “cojones,” don’t you? Click the image to watch.

Update: The no votes were Vitter, who tangled with her at the hearing over the Clinton Foundation, and Jim DeMint. I wonder what his problem was.

Blowback

So is McCain the defacto leader of the Republican party now?

If so I’ll have to change parties…

Skywise on January 21, 2009 at 4:43 PM

Yep, they’re all in her testicle lock box now.

Brat on January 21, 2009 at 4:46 PM

I believe so Sky. To further make your day, I believe that he’s also Obama’s go to guy on getting deals done with the GOP.

Bill is busy interviewing interns as I type.

Now the coronation of Princess Caroline as senator?

Good. Now she can get on with the business of being “troubled” with Iran’s nuke program…with smart power, that is.

Weight of Glory on January 21, 2009 at 4:47 PM

Obama is now loading up the clown bus.

grapeknutz on January 21, 2009 at 4:47 PM

In fairness to McCain, who were we really going to get out of Obama better than Clinton? It’s not like he’s about to appoint John Bolton. If Clinton were blocked, how does Secretary John Kerry or Secretary Samantha Power sound?

amerpundit on January 21, 2009 at 4:47 PM

Seems that our representatives on the right never had any in the first place.

Hillary as SOS is not nearly as laughable as Barry as CIC.

DeweyWins on January 21, 2009 at 4:49 PM

If they’re going to oppose someone, Geithner or Holder would be more worth fighting for, although I think Geithner will make it through. Holder may get through, too.

Wethal on January 21, 2009 at 4:50 PM

Best Wishes to Hillary Clinton. If she has no opponents to her confirmation than all we can do is hope she does well.

I trust her more than Barry.

No problem. If there is, then I have no problem with his problem.

Brat on January 21, 2009 at 4:52 PM

amerpundit on January 21, 2009 at 4:47 PM

Why did he feel the need to go to the floor in defense of her confirmation? He knew as well as you and I that no real opposition was going to exist. Even Cornyn, who offered the only verbal “concern” admitted that he was going to vote for her. So why does our standard bearer feel the need to tell congress what Americans want, more Clinton. But what should I suspect this is McCain simply being McCain.

Weight of Glory on January 21, 2009 at 4:52 PM

I’m not a fan of Hillary Clinton but she does seem qualified for the job.

Advise and consent folks.

Save the battles for arenas where it will really matter.

JadeNYU on January 21, 2009 at 4:53 PM

Well, the GOP has to pick it’s battles wisely right now. Putting up a fuss over Hillary would have ended in defeat eventually so they did the right thing.
