Daily Show: Obama’s inaugural address not so Changey

posted at 12:27 pm on January 21, 2009 by Allahpundit

Overheard on the Mall by a Telegraph correspondent: “I thought the speech was sh*t.” Ah, but even The One’s turds are gilded and smell of roses, Juan Williams reminds us, thanks to the media’s racially-tinged reluctance to spoil an historic moment they helped create.

Bush’s own speechwriter, Michael Gerson, found it interesting but cliche. Which, given what you’re about to see, makes perfect sense. Exit question: Is the difference between the “Italian food” and “Chinese food” here a simple matter of Obama delivering his speech in the cadence of Black English?

There has never been much of a difference between R and D. McCain’s policies are nearly identical to Kennedy’s.

Wha…? You mean the Obamasiah isn’t perfect, he’s not THE ONE but instead a mere mortal?!?!?!

Meh, I shall point and laugh at all the Obama/MSM kool-aid drinkers when their messiah comes crashing down from the high pedestal they built for him!

Hey – did the light bulb just flicker on there for a second? Maybe?

Nah. But its fun to hear a liberal do the “I told you so” thing TO HIMSELF for a minute.

Wait, wait. I thought the comedians said there wasn’t anything that could be used as comedy from Obama.

Weren’t we told that????

I could care less about how the words are pronounced.
I only care about the content of the speech.

To that matter, there wasn’t much content. I cannot remember a single phrase that stood out as memorable.

As for “Italian food” and “Chinese food”, the Chinese invented the noodle and the Italians perfected it.

And it’s sauce, not gravy.

Kini on January 21, 2009 at 12:38 PM

So is The Daily Show saying that BO plagerized GW’s speeches?

Hey!? What would Joe Biden think about plagarism?

Not very ‘changey” and even less “hopey”.

Fooled again.

Wander on January 21, 2009 at 12:39 PM

When <insert liberal’s name here> says that, I don’t think he really means it.

That just about sums up how they can say things that appeal to the center or the center-right; because the left know that they truly don’t mean what they are saying.

Liars.

keving on January 21, 2009 at 12:40 PM

Maybe now that there is peace, hope, change and an utter sham as potus…the Daily Show will take the same road as Little Bush?

One can only hope and change (the channel).

Liberty or Death on January 21, 2009 at 12:44 PM

It was good in a very sad way.

Considering the benign statements that they pulled out (God made everyone free, we’ll defend the U.S., etc), it’s a bit weird that his defense was “Yeah, but, when Obama says it I don’t really believe he means it! So it gives me hope.”

I know it was the punch line, but, considering the applause it got….

Well, have the lib-idiots that go to the daily show tapings been completely conditioned to clap furiously at the mention of the word “hope” or do they honestly hope Obama doesn’t mean it when he says people should be free and America will defend itself?

JadeNYU on January 21, 2009 at 12:45 PM

Now I can’t wait for Dennis Miller’s take on The Speech!

By making fun of one speech (while simultaneously making fun of Bush) you’re convinced they’re balanced?

Let me guess, you’re also someone who thinks MSNBC is more centrist than Fox.

Esthier on January 21, 2009 at 12:47 PM

It’s like: why is cheese delicious on Italian food but when you melt it on Chinese food, it’s disgusting?

Laugh if you want but that’s an amazing analogy to how Democrats dealt with the 8 years of GWB. Everything from his mouth was a policy and cultural trainwreck — but have Obama utter those same beliefs: GOLD!

LastRick on January 21, 2009 at 12:48 PM

That’s hilarious! Too bad Jake Tapper didn’t find this first and put it on ABC’s site. Wait a minute. I’m thinking Jake probably needs his job right now.

phreshone on January 21, 2009 at 1:01 PM

I’ll give Jon Stewart props for poking fun at Obama. It’s telling though when they have to work in a bit apologising for having to make these jokes (“It’s all I know how to do!”). The audience laughed more at his Bush impersonation that at the actual joke – we’ll see how long his liberal audience sticks with him.

gwelf on January 21, 2009 at 1:02 PM

This is good stuff. It will be interesting to see how the Obama administration handles the upcoming jokes, satire, and comedic criticism that is headed their way. Let’s see if Obama has the spine for it or if he will condemn with the R-word.

sherry on January 21, 2009 at 1:03 PM

Hey, Obama might do a good job as Prez..who knows.

But after watcing the PBS ‘bio’ of The One last night, I’ve never been less confident in an incoming POTUS. In one hour, it was made very clear by everyone who has interacted with BO since he arrived in Chicago at age 23 that he has never held a real job, nor stayed on any job long enough to gain any real experience. I knew this of course, but that program made it so clear that he has always seen each job as a stepping stone to power. Now that he has it,the ultimate power job, he has no new job to which he can aspire. All he has to look forward to is doing the job of running the country; his first real job.

I think he’s going to freak out in office..I really do.

DrW on January 21, 2009 at 1:04 PM

We obviously can’t hold a Cabinet member to the same standard the libtard media held to Joe the Plumber.

I have said this all along about Barry. I really think he will crumble in front of us.

He has never had to make unpopular decisions or face criticism of any kind.

If his feet are ever held to the fire we will be lucky if he has the decency to resign.

DeweyWins on January 21, 2009 at 1:24 PM

When did Barry ever learn to talk like an American black man? His father was an educated man from Africa who certainly spoke proper British English.
He was also primarily raised by a mother and grandmother whiter than mine..

It’as sort of like Hillary’s weird Arkansas accent that she mysteriously had in 1992. A phony accent perpetrated by a fraudulent politico.

Stewart has had his token shots at Teh Messiah. I expect him to give the media a couple of broadsides as well. Lets give Obama a few weeks to screw up and then lets see how long it takes for The Daily Show to be accused of apostasy.

Since you’re posting on this site, I’m assuming that you’re not an illegal alien, or at least 3 months behind on your mortgage payments, or in default yet again after having already received an initial “re-working” (i.e. lowering of your payment amount at taxpayer expense) of your mortgage.

Since those will likely be prerequisites to qualifying for “foreclosure assistance” (i.e. mortgage bailout for deadbeats), you won’t be getting a check. Responsible homeowners won’t be getting any breaks, because they are the ones who will be paying for everybody else’s “free” mortgages.

While I don’t think anyone in the media will ever really take it to Obama, I have to give Stewart his due credit here. But has it really come to this? A comedy show has to waste Obama for his “change” dishonesty? That compare and contrast clip should have been leading every news program in the nation.

RightWinged on January 21, 2009 at 2:37 PM

Oh. I see. Now that BO is President, they can take a few pokes. And I agree, I have never heard President Bush sound or look like that stupid imitation. We should all pray that President Obama is at least half as effective as President Bush was.

DrW on January 21, 2009 at 1:04 PM

In all seriousness, I think this is a scarey and very accurate asessment of BO’s psyche. The combination of the stress of being POTUS, his extremely thin skin about being criticized or made fun of, the state of the economy and our national security threats means that there is a strong possibility that he could have a nervous breakdown in office.

This article was published before the election analyzing BO’s pysche. Pretty frightening.

I’ll give the Daily Show a chance. I’ve never been able to stand it…but then, most of its run (under Stewart) was during Bush’s two terms. Maybe. MAYBE. I have no problem with satire and making fun of politicians, as long as it runs in both directions.

This is going to be interesting.

There is a HUGE industry both in the News Media, and in Comedy, who have made a lot of money by being anti Bush political commentators.

Now, knowing that AGREEING with people is not funny, or news worthy (if it bleeds it leads…)… what are these folks going to use for material?

Because without material, they are done… they lose their jobs…

So, they either go out of business, or go anti somthing / someone else…

Gonna be interesting to watch this play out.

This is not the Daily show I thought I knew.

I don’t think this is going to help Michelle’s children at all either.

I think Stewart is extremely good at the satire he dish’s out.I don’t watch him because he’s a liberal and 99.9% of his show is bashing Republicans.

That’s just honest,if Conservatives had a comedian with a show this good bashing liberals, I would watch it regularly.
But unlike liberals,I would not go to it for a news source.

I am going to have to see a lot more than this before I give Stewart any credit for being “objective” in his satire.
