When the Democrats are in power, we all must “pull together for the good of the country” – when the Republicans are in power we are reminded that nearly 50% voted against them and the Democrat voice must be heard.

We don’t need people doing things like emphasizing Obama’s middle name in a derogatory fashion. How anyone would think that’s beneficial to their cause, or to the country as a whole, is beyond me. Also, it’s not even clever. Neither are smushwords like BusHitler, or sillywords like Rethuglicans and Dhimmicrats.

One action you can take is to write your represetative and voice your opinion. I do that every time something like this comes up. Just call the office and send emails don’t write letters. If necessary send telegrams. Pubil opinion drives these folks. The follow the support either for or against.

I hope you are right. Good news is it died, bad news is there is still the potential to guilt it back to life. Just the thought of it makes me cringe. It is not like our tax dollars go to taking care of the poor as it is/. Black American have just as many, if not more, rights and opportunities as you and I do. Whether or not they take advantage of that is their choice and not my fault. Where does it end?

And yet probably 80% of the comments on this thread won’t be able to acknowledge that Obama is now their president.

How stupid – Of course Obama is my President. I even heard him take the oath – done deal.

However that doesn’t change the fact that I expect him & his policies to try and take this country in the wrong direction. If it turns out that he greatly disappoints the idiots who annointed him by abandoning many of the quasi-socialist things he promised them – I will be happy. If he follows through on things like appeasing our enemies, improvishing all of us for the benefit of those who think they’re entitled to a free ride, if he lets the corruption of Chicago politics that he was nutured in guide him – then he will deserve unremitting censure and disgust. Something I already hold for a vast majority of his two-faced supporters who now bleat how “we’re all in this together & it’s time for bi-artisanship.”

Do you have some kind of vested interest in refusing to acknowledge that? Are you going to have a crisis of identity or something?

When I know the proper term for a form of government, I use it. I’ve already shown that for simplistic discussions when talking to juveniles and children the US is a democracy, such as when certain legislatures vote on pedestrian issues and the result is accepted by mere majority vote. But a constitutional democracy does not equal a republic nor is it synonymous and you would not say so if you had even an inkling of the meaning equal or the ambiguity of your use of constitutional.

But do continue to think so. I’ll leave you to be campaign for president of the playground unhindered. Maybe you can convince somebody that since an elephant is an animal, animals=elephants, regardless of whether it is stuffed.

Many Americans on both sides in the civil war paid the price in blood to end slavery. IMHO Conyers is like Rangel in NY, a bigot who benefits from white guilt over slavery and promising blacks money.. He does his best to keep the Afican Americans beholden to him. He knows this legislation will die its usual death without seeing the light of day but it keeps getting him reelected. It’s for show. This sham has been going on for a long time.

This bill was introduced in the 2007-2008 congress but never became law. It died, never even making it to committee during the last session. No congressperson actually tries to make it law. Sessions of Congress last two years, and at the end of each session all proposed bills and resolutions that haven’t passed are cleared from the books. Congress persons often reintroduce their failed bills that did not come up for debate in the next session. That’s what Conyers is doing here. So far he has 4 co-sponsors out of 435 possibles. It’s going nowhere again but it wins him support in his district and they re-elect him since he very visible proclaims he introduced the bill and needs to continue the “work”.

Now that African Americans are finally making economic strides even ascending to the Presidency itself they are rethinking the attitude of black leaders. In many cases they realize who the real bigot is.

I think it may be too late for Sears Charm School.

For those who cried during the inauguration: pace yourselves because there’s going to be a lot to cry about over the next four years.

I’d like for Obama to succeed because it’s in our best interest as Americans; and I won’t castigate him like the Left did to Bush. However, I can’t say what I’ve seen so far is promising.

If a Republican had changed positions on so many issues, I don’t think we would have had the same outcome. Funny thing, though, this isn’t about race at all: it’s the cultural Liberal movement at work.

The socialist, superficial, guilty, politically correct, boomerist movement that hides behind the mantle of racial enlightenment is behind this. (Remember Clarence Thomas? If that was about racial equality, there would have been no Anita Hill or cans of Coke.) Maybe that’s why I’m not on board with this.

And I was born in Hawaii around the same time Obama was.

Actually we don’t need to read anything to understand what a republic is, we live it. Seems to me you’re the one having a problem understanding what it is.

Depends on what is meant by “succeed”. If President Obama wants to succeed by making progress in Afghanistan, overseeing our withdrawal from Iraq, keeping America free from terrorist attacks during his term, keeping the price of gasoline down to a loud roar, and improving the economy, I’m all for it. On the other hand, if it means socialized medicine, more subprime lending, zero restrictions on abortion, the “civilian security force”, higher taxes, and more bailouts, I hope he fails dismally.

This is utter BOVINE EXCREMENT. First of all, for a lot of us, our ancestors were in europe when slavery existed.

As for some other points:

- The union soldiers already paid a steep price in BLOOD and SHATTERED LIMBS. While I’ll admit that the slaves didn’t have it good, they were not ordered by their officers to charge into confederate artillery batteries spewing grape, canister, shot and shell backed up by confederate marksment who were not known for missing their targets.

- The conditions in the northern factories with respect to child labor and working conditions, it could be argued, were a little better than that of the slaves. Yes, the slaves were not free. However, does anyone understand how the ‘company store’ worked???

- My grandfather was a Ukranian coal miner. He and his family were treated little better than dogshit. He was murdered on a city street and died alone in a hospital.

- What about jury duty… the modern day equivalent of slavery where trial lawyers like multimillionaire John “Silk Pony” edwards channel dead babies and make millions while the schmuck jurors get 6 bucks a day.

I’m sensing that our society is like an old steam engine where the safety valve is wired shut and engineers are throwing oil soaked rags into the firebox. It’s gonna blow and it ain’g gonna be pretty when it does.

Yesterday, I deliberately avoided turning my television on so that I wouldn’t have to deal with the hoopla. I caught Lowery’s bilge and other inaugural lowlights while listening to Rush on my way to work. But, as I was getting in the car to go to work, I couldn’t help but notice that it was cloudy out and a chill wind was blowing. Omens for the future, I’m afraid.
