Kennedy, Byrd both stricken at Capitol luncheon; Update: Kennedy was talking on the way out

posted at 3:00 pm on January 20, 2009 by Allahpundit

A lot of excitement today for two men in ill health. Byrd appears to be okay, Kennedy … less so. Stand by for updates.

Update: CBS confirms that it was a seizure and said Byrd was taken out because of his emotion over Kennedy.

Update: Early indications are that it’s not bad as feared. ABC updates:

In an interview with ABC’s Jonathan Karl, Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, said Kennedy was talking as he was taken out on a stretcher to the ambulance. Sen. Chris Dodd, D-Conn., a very close friend of Kennedy’s, could be seen laughing as Kennedy’s stretcher was put into the ambulance — a good sign.

Kennedy, Byrd both stricken at Capitol luncheon

Quite frankly, I don’t think it’s the first time for either of them.

And quite frankly again, they could both die this afternoon and the Obama party would go on quite as planned.

Really, you don’t take people dying of brain cancer to DC inaugural parties. And Robert Byrd –well, is anyone surprised at that, either?

BigD on January 20, 2009 at 3:33 PM

Kennedy AND Byrd?

What were they doing…serving peanut butter at the luncheon?

Or did Kennedy just have to steal the limelight again? ;)

Godspeed to both.

Skywise on January 20, 2009 at 3:34 PM

Teddy must have drunk some rotgut whiskey to induce this seizure. I bet Byrdbrain faked his thing to steal the spotlight.

See it this way: they both croak and the country is safer and there’s that much less CO2, smoke, and mirrors contributing to so-called global warming.

Liam on January 20, 2009 at 3:34 PM

OT, but whoever designed Mrs. Obama’s dress should be imprisoned. Making a beautiful woman look frumpy is no easy task. I question the designer’s patriotism.

All that has gotten us is a seat on the outside looking in. Everything I learned about how to play hard ball I learned from the liberals.

Earlier today over on the Huffington Post they were joking about Cheney in wheelchair. The comments they made when Tony Snow was ill and passed away were beyond belief.

So if that is what it takes to have our voices heard then I give a tip of the hat to the liberals for showing us the way.

Maybe this way instead of Huffington Post getting mentioned on Brett Baers show tonight some conservative blog will. It takes being outrageous to get attention then so be it.

My father and his family are from Wisconsin. They’re Catholic. He and my mother are now Southern Baptist. I know it wasn’t the easiest place to live in, but he had a harder time living in the South as a kid when “Yankee” was a dirty word.
