Thank you Mr. President. You made the tough decisions based on the facts presented, and initiated change based on your personal sound value system and confirmed by those you placed your trust in to fill in unknown variables. The results, a safer America despite the efforts of our domestic enemies to undermine our country.

Bush lost the conservative base when he supported comprehensive immigration and became identified with McCain. I heard that because Bush once had a Spanish nanny that he developed a sympathy for Hispanics and thus bent over backwards to make America 'a more welcoming environment'. Of course as President he should have been more concerned about enforcing the law and building the fence and defending the USA from illegal immigrants. Wouldn't it be amazing that the USA became a permanent socialist morass because of Bush's nanny? Thus what I blame Bush for most is not following or enforcing the laws as related to illegal immigration. Because of that many conservatives deserted the GOP and either voted for Barr or for Obama.

Love the state of Virginia and have already learned my lesson there. They put a lot of effort and money into regulation of their Highways.
I remember a sign that read "speed enforced from the sky"(helicopters/airplanes) or something like that.
Serious business indeed.

That is hilarious. What mental gyrations are necessary for Brzezinski to believe that Carter won the cold war, instead of creating the world’s worst terrorist regime?

Vashta.Nerada on January 21, 2009 at 9:51 AM

He's a liberal.
The only thing they have is to rewrite history because their policies continuously produce nothing but failure.

Look at the democrats now.
They yelled and screamed for more than a decade about Saddam being a threat to the US and the World, then voted for war.

When the war got tough and they saw a political opportunity by being "anti-war" all of a sudden(just like in Vietnam)they produced bogus conspiracy theories and yelled for immediate withdrawl.
They continuously stated that Iraq was lost even pronouncing it on the senate floor while our troops were still on the battlefield.
They said the surge would not work and still demanded immediate withdrawl.

Now the surge has worked and Iraq is a success.

Democrats now say that they knew all along the surge would stop the violence and it was there yelling for withdrawl that really won the war.

So according to the "smart ones"."Smart Power" consists of yelling surrender as soon as possible if you want to defeat your enemy.
No wonder they want drugs legalized so much, because you would have to be high as a kite to buy this ignorant bullsh!t.

Yea right genius. This comment makes sense if the democrats were on Mars the last 8 years but that isn't the case is it.
They voted for 2 wars and protected their corrupt buddies at Fannie/Freddie with everything they had.Not 1 piece of legislation produced by democrats to rein in the corruption
at Fannie/Freddie that started this sub-prime induced economic meltdown.
Unlike Republicans who tried many times to prevent this from happening:

<strong Whose policies led to the credit crisis?
posted at 9:40 am on September 16, 2008 by Ed Morrissey
http://hotair.com/archives/2008/09/16/whose-policies-led-to-the-credit-crisis/

The New York Times reported this five years ago:

The Bush administration today recommended the most significant regulatory overhaul in the housing finance industry since the savings and loan crisis a decade ago.
Under the plan, disclosed at a Congressional hearing today, a new agency would be created within the Treasury Department to assume supervision of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the government-sponsored companies that are the two largest players in the mortgage lending industry.

Who blocked it,the democrats in full force to line their pockets with Fannie money and keep pushing loan practices for people who don't pay their bills.

The "smart ones" were as ignorant about this as they have been about Iraq:

”These two entities — Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac — are not facing any kind of financial crisis,” said Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts, the ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee. ”The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.”
Representative Melvin L. Watt, Democrat of North Carolina, agreed.
”I don’t see much other than a shell game going on here, moving something from one agency to another and in the process weakening the bargaining power of poorer families and their ability to get affordable housing,” Mr. Watt said.

. And Sen. Christopher Dodd, the Democratic chairman of the Senate banking committee,
(who took boatloads of money from Fannie/Freddie blocked any type of regulation, did not offer one bit of oversight and regulation)

We will save the senator some trouble. Here is what we saw firsthand at the White House from late 2002 through 2007: Starting in 2002, White House and Treasury Department economic policy staffers, with support from then-Chief of Staff Andy Card, began to press for meaningful reforms of Fannie, Freddie and other government-sponsored enterprises, known GSEs.

How did Fannie and Freddie counter such efforts? They flooded Washington with lobbying dollars, doled out tens of thousands in political contributions and put offices in key congressional districts. Not surprisingly, these efforts worked. Leaders in Congress did not just balk at proposals to rein in Fannie and Freddie. They mocked the proposals as unserious and unnecessary.

As recently as last summer, when housing prices had clearly peaked and the mortgage market had started to seize up, Dodd called on Bush to "immediately reconsider his ill-advised" reform proposals. Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, said that the president's suggestion for a strong, independent regulator of Fannie and Freddie was "inane."

That's a real smart position there, block any reform of an industry that is capable of ruining our economy with massive dept across the country, then blame it on Bush.
Probably works with the sheep in the democratic party, but not with the people in touch with reality that know how much the democrats are involved in this mess.

McCain specifically nailed this problem down only to be told he didn't care about the "little" people and "minorities"
by the "smart ones" in the democratic party:

I join as a cosponsor of the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005, S. 190, to underscore my support for quick passage of GSE regulatory reform legislation. If Congress does not act, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system, and the economy as a whole.
I urge my colleagues to support swift action on this GSE reform legislation.

Democrats opposed this straight across the board.Yet again
not offering any oversight or regulation on this impending
economic disaster.Continuing to tell us nothing was wrong, this is just a distraction, nothing to see here.

Bush tried to address this no less than 17 times, meeting nothing but resistance from the democrats:

Just the Facts: The Administration's Unheeded Warnings About the Systemic Risk Posed by the GSEs
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2008/09/print/20080919-15.html

For many years the President and his Administration have not only warned of the systemic consequences of financial turmoil at a housing government-sponsored enterprise (GSE) but also put forward thoughtful plans to reduce the risk that either Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac would encounter such difficulties. President Bush publicly called for GSE reform 17 times in 2008 alone before Congress acted. Unfortunately, these warnings went unheeded, as the President's repeated attempts to reform the supervision of these entities were thwarted by the legislative maneuvering of those who emphatically denied there were problems.

Should they have tried harder,yes.
But the democrats not only didn't try to do anything, they insisted there was no problem and blocked any attempts to address the problem.

Now Obama has started off his Presidency with 100's of fat cats coming in on their carbon loving private jets, fattening
Obama's pockets while our tax dollars bail them out.
Harry Reid is up on the hill smooching up lobbyist with a smile on his face and telling the world that Obama will be doing the same, and idiot democrats will be sitting on the sidelines still whining about Bush and saying
"Yes we Can".

If your so concerned about the debt in this country, your liberal heroes that you voted for are just as responsible as anybody.

Yea right genius. This comment makes sense if the democrats were on Mars the last 8 years but that isn’t the case is it.

The New York Times reported this five years ago:

The Bush administration today recommended the most significant regulatory overhaul in the housing finance industry since the savings and loan crisis a decade ago.
Under the plan, disclosed at a Congressional hearing today, a new agency would be created within the Treasury Department to assume supervision of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the government-sponsored companies that are the two largest players in the mortgage lending industry.

Who blocked it,the democrats in full force to line their pockets with Fannie money and keep pushing loan practices for people who don’t pay their bills.

The “smart ones” were as ignorant about this as they have been about Iraq:

As recently as last summer, when housing prices had clearly peaked and the mortgage market had started to seize up, Dodd called on Bush to “immediately reconsider his ill-advised” reform proposals. Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, said that the president’s suggestion for a strong, independent regulator of Fannie and Freddie was “inane.”

That’s a real smart position there, block any reform of an industry that is capable of ruining our economy with massive dept across the country, then blame it on Bush.

Brzezinski: Regret what? That secret operation was an excellent idea. It had the effect of
drawing the Russians into the Afghan trap and you want me to regret it? The day that the
Soviets officially crossed the border, I wrote to President Carter: We now have the
opportunity of giving to the USSR its Vietnam war. Indeed, for almost 10 years, Moscow
had to carry on a war unsupportable by the government, a conflict that brought about the
demoralization and finally the breakup of the Soviet empire.

That is hilarious. What mental gyrations are necessary for Brzezinski to believe that Carter won the cold war, instead of creating the world's worst terrorist regime?

I'm proud of President Bush and thankful for his years of service.

Obama is going to cave to opinion polls and demonstrations like crazy. When he gets pressed he buckles. This is another reason the right should start protesting. Be visible and vocal. Keep the pressure on him and he will crack.

McCain or anyone who works with him is playing him completely wrong.
