Bush in Texas: “I’m coming home with my head held high”

A brave face on a tough day. The passion with which he emphasizes the words “50 million” speaks for itself; as for his claim to have tackled the tough issues instead of passing them on to other presidents, that’s true in some cases and … not so true in others.
If you want to say thanks, here’s your chance.

That was a good speech in Midland, I watched it live. As I mentioned earlier, no president is perfect, not even our beloved Ronald Reagan. In my opinion, President George W. Bush ranks right up there near the top. Judging by the way he went after our Islamic enemies, I call him George the Lion Hearted.

In the years and decades to come, I am certain we are going to review our time with President Bush and find pieces of his presidency to use as a pattern when looking for our next GOP leader. Certainly, he had glaring failings – a lack of understanding how communications is crucial (a weakness that has all the signs of being genetic), but his core beliefs were genuine and guided his policy decisions.
Good men are hard to find. Today the onlookers at the inauguration treated a good man just as they have for the past eight years, with utter animosity and hatred. This is the Age of Obama.
I will never forget the scene today, after the inauguration as the Bushs and the Obama stood beside each other, President Obama self-assured and staid, President Bush warm and congratulatory. If I ever have the good fortune to happen on President Bush I will be honored to shake his hand, thank him for the years he gave our country and buy him one of whatever soft beverage he’s drinking.

Of course I want to say thank you. I voted for Bush in 2004 for one reason only (aside from the fact that Kerry was/is a complete moron) and that was victory in Iraq. I was scared to death that the liberals would succeed in defeating America ONCE AGAIN on the international stage. But Bush delivered. It took a while, but that’s okay. He delivered. That alone washes all the other disappointments (amnesty, etc.) away. God bless you, President Bush.

The level of hate this man has endured for eight years was unreal. So much unfounded, uncalled for hatred especially from people who can’t point out
Iraqthe Middle East on a map. Well, President Bush, a lot of it was a bad ride, with no child left behind, Harriet and Al, the explosion of entitlements, and a lost opportunity to stop the insanity of subsidizing the housing bubble.
But we’re all still here, despite our enemies keen desire to see us gone. And there are a lot of Iraqis who, if not grateful to you, ought to be.
So, thank you and Godspeed.
JudetheFossil on January 20, 2009 at 9:40 PM
I also am thankful to President Bush and view him as a real leader, a man of faith, integrity and conviction. Not perfect, the only perfect person got nailed to a cross. Didn’t agree with everything but never never did I think he had anyting but America’s best interest at heart.
I defended him at a party on Sunday and as some of you know I live in So Cal and a Christian Conservative Republican Wife and Mother can only be found at Sarah Palin rally in Carson. But armed with facts about the mortgage crisis and the Dems major prominant role and crying racism when the Repubs tried to reform it, the fact we haven’t been attacked again, the fact tht O voted for FISA, the fact that Republicans step down in scandal and Dems do not not, well not a lot left for my friends to criticize except for him personnaly the dumb genius you know… but eventually even they had to acknowledge we won in Iraq… oh yeah some did retort was it worth it? Then I came back with Saddam wanted the world to think he had WMDs, the Dem had the info Bush had too and voted for it and the total hypocrisy of those who backstabbed him after for political epediency! I might not get invited to a lot of parties now but I could care less! I’m sick of Liberals and don’t wan to be around them anymore…not after this

8/6/01 Presidential Daily Briefing:
Clandestine, foreign government, and media reports indicate bin Laden since 1997 has wanted to conduct terrorist attacks in the US. Bin Laden implied in U.S. television interviews in 1997 and 1998 that his followers would follow the example of World Trade Center bomber Ramzi Yousef and “bring the fighting to America.”
After U.S. missile strikes on his base in Afghanistan in 1998, bin Laden told followers he wanted to retaliate in Washington, according to a — – service.
An Egyptian Islamic Jihad (EIJ) operative told – - service at the same time that bin Laden was planning to exploit the operative’s access to the U.S. to mount a terrorist strike.
The millennium plotting in Canada in 1999 may have been part of bin Laden’s first serious attempt to implement a terrorist strike in the U.S.
Convicted plotter Ahmed Ressam has told the FBI that he conceived the idea to attack Los Angeles International Airport himself, but that in —, Laden lieutenant Abu Zubaydah encouraged him and helped facilitate the operation. Ressam also said that in 1998 Abu Zubaydah was planning his own U.S. attack.
Ressam says bin Laden was aware of the Los Angeles operation. Although Bin Laden has not succeeded, his attacks against the U.S. Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania in 1998 demonstrate that he prepares operations years in advance and is not deterred by setbacks. Bin Laden associates surveyed our embassies in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam as early as 1993, and some members of the Nairobi cell planning the bombings were arrested and deported in 1997.
Al Qaeda members — including some who are U.S. citizens — have resided in or traveled to the U.S. for years, and the group apparently maintains a support structure that could aid attacks.
Two al-Qaeda members found guilty in the conspiracy to bomb our embassies in East Africa were U.S. citizens, and a senior EIJ member lived in California in the mid-1990s.
A clandestine source said in 1998 that a bin Laden cell in New York was recruiting Muslim-American youth for attacks.
We have not been able to corroborate some of the more sensational threat reporting, such as that from a —- service in 1998 saying that Bin Laden wanted to hijack a U.S. aircraft to gain the release of “Blind Sheikh” Omar Abdel Rahman and other U.S.-held extremists.
Nevertheless, FBI information since that time indicates patterns of suspicious activity in this country consistent with preparations for hijackings or other types of attacks, including recent surveillance of federal buildings in New York.
The FBI is conducting approximately 70 full-field investigations throughout the U.S. that it considers bin Laden-related. CIA and the FBI are investigating a call to our embassy in the UAE in May saying that a group or bin Laden supporters was in the U.S. planning attacks with explosives.
